    Personally no I wouldn't.

If I was hunting I'd want it to be as humane as possible for the quarry I'm hunting so to minimise any chance of the animals suffering so I would use the most powerful, accurate gun I could. An air pistol just doesn't fit the bill for humane, precise, consistent hunting imho.

    For me... no

There is a natural inclination towards a scoped rifle for vermin which I agree with, plus I know I’m no where near accurate with any pistol

I wouldn't use a pistol on Rats they are tough little animals and although a lot of people hate them I have a lot of respect for them.

    Absolutely not,

They don’t have the power or the accuracy in a hunting situation.

I mis interpreted that one, I thought you meant you do every day of the week if life allowed you to. Ie like the Mrs being at home to look after the kids while you go

That looks to me like 3 maimed rats out of 10. Not good enough.

Just got a HW45 and it has the power to do it but the way im shooting at the minute I wouldn't point it at any vermin , if I can hit a target shot after shot every time withinin 10 yards id consider it

The only reason I asked this as the other day a few lads off free ads were being slated on here for putting they hunt with there pistols in there ad description.

Just before I put the thread up I was looking thru YouTube and seen a video that fieldsports channel put up and he was using a .22 pistol to hunt/shoot rats. I'm guessing they are pretty popular air gunners that the public follow with 194.000 followers, but my point is no wonder you get newbie idiots and just idiots in general that think it's acceptable to hunt with pistols and make inhumane kills and leave animals to suffer which then makes the sport look bad if the animals found by Joe public. When you've got in the newbies eyes a professional doing it they think it's acceptable for them to do. If well known air gunners are going to hunt with pistols they in my opinion shouldn't broadcast it on the likes of YouTube

I reckon thats the benchmark - if you can hit a static target and group consistently within the kill zone for your quarry, only then should you consider shooting at even vermin. And those kill zones are small.

Edit: and if my mate's 45 is anything to go by every critter in 1/2 a mile with ears will have legged it after the first shot! :D

Traps and poison first, then an air rifle or terriers. Pistols, for me personally are for fun. Saying that, I've killed a few with a size 12 wellie and a shovel.
