1. The Forum Rules have undergone some minor changes and updates.  Please take the time to read them; it will only take a couple of minutes of your time. By doing so, you lessen the chance of incurring the wrath of the moderation team or making yourself look foolish to other members.

90% of users posting adverts in the Sales forums need to be reminded to read the rules as their posts are wrong.  This is unnecessarily time-consuming and will no longer happen - if your advert doesn't follow the Sales Rules it will be deleted and you'll have to start all over again.

  3. Dear members,

Our membership (like our country) consists of people from all walks of life; different in far more ways than can be listed here and each with a different view based on their experience of life - regardless of their colour, religion or cultural heritage. Every single person in the UK has been born of mixed race – we are a multi-coloured and multi-cultural country.

As many of you are aware there are a handful of individuals amongst this membership that persist in making provocative, inflammatory, racist and otherwise offensive comments. This has been happening across the forum to a certain degree but is most especially prevalent in the Adult section.

The moderation team has tried to stay on top of this, however unfortunately because of the ‘offensive’ nature of much of its content we don’t monitor the Adult section quite as much as perhaps we should. As a result much of this behaviour has gone unnoticed unless it has been reported to us. While the team always intended to take a "light touch" approach to the Adult section it would seem that some people aren’t quite adult enough to be left unmonitored after all.

This behaviour is, and always has been against Forum Rules as well as the specific stipulations of the Adults forum and it will no longer be tolerated. We feel it's time to draw a line in the sand and as such from this point onward offenders will receive an immediate and permanent ban from the forum.

In order for us to achieve our goal of restoring the forum to the friendly and tolerant place it once was, we ask that ALL members be mindful of the content they post and help us to stop unacceptable behaviour by using the 'Report' tool at the bottom of any offending post - the results of which can be seen only by Admin/Moderators.

You should all receive a copy of this message by PM.

  5. Postings on Politics, Religion & Controversial Off-Topic Material

The majority of users do not want to read about these subjects and people have left the forum as a result of it – this is after all an 'Airgun' Forum. It’s all very well to say they don’t have to read it if they don't want to, but as most of us use the ‘New Posts’ button there is no easy way to avoid it.

All AGF staff members are in favour of people being able to discuss what they want, but we have to draw the line somewhere if it is upsetting other users. We don’t want to read about these topics either.

IMPORTANT- The discussion of politics and religion is no longer allowed anywhere on the forum (including the Adult section).  The only exception is if it's airgun related - they must be put in the Airgun Related Politics section..

We will not tolerate bullying or personal attacks, racism or any other offensive 'isms'. we will remove these topics from the forum, we will not give you an area where you can abuse each other. We will not hesitate to ban offenders.

So I recently acquired a RedWolf Midnight (Blue Wolf more like) that’s still sat in its box because I don’t an optic to put on it.

@Spray1Mark said it would get upset and leak if I put the spare Nikko Stirling Mountmaster 3-9 I had lying around so I sold that instead.

I’m planning to use it for bench rest, including @Wofty ’s BR20 comp on here so I’d like something BR focused. However I don’t want to limit it to just that and would like to be able to use it for other things too. I doubt I’ll ever shoot HFT with it but plinking at the range or the garden and used standing for sure.

I’ve been recommended the Vortex Diamondback FFP so far but I find the reticle is very busy (not looked through one in real life yet though). I’ve also previously not liked FFP scopes and I don’t really need to worry about the changing holdovers at different magnifications for my uses.

my default choice would have been a Hawke Sidewinder variant of some form or other. Maybe the 8.5-25x42. Not sure that’s high enough mag though.

so what would you all suggest?

For what your proposing I'd go with a Sidewinder in 8-32 guise :thumb: x24 is a bit low for BR if you ask me, and higher than x32 will ad more weight, so even this is a bit of a compromise as I have a Big Nikko on one of mine and a Delta Stryker on the other, so not light for standing, but ok for a few shots.

Just 20m BR at the moment.

For other uses I’d probably use it out to 50yards... but having said that NPAC has about 200 at the new range.

Won’t be doing BR at that distance though, just plinking!

Good to know 25x is not enough. What’s a good minimum magnification to be looking for? I’ve not shot much BR at all before really.

Although my scopes go to x50, I normally have them around x30 give or take.

    Cool thanks.

so you use a Big Nikko? Like the FT shooters?

what’s the Delta Stryker? Not familiar with that one.

Is the Hawke Sidewinder ED 10-50 any good?

    https://www.opticswarehouse.co.uk/nikko-stirling-diamond-sportsman-10-50x60-riflescope-mildot

Got to be one of the most trusted and best bang for your buck mid range scopes in circulation.

    https://www.opticswarehouse.co.uk/d...6-hd-sfp-lt-illuminated-zero-stop-rifle-scope

Probably more than I need, but it's got less parallax than many other scopes and a centre dot can be handy in conjunction with a fine reticule for BR - very good, not twice as good as a Big Nikko but double the price.

    https://www.opticswarehouse.co.uk/hawke-sidewinder-ed-10-50x60-riflescope-includes-3-turret-sets

These are a decent enough scope, but for the little extra your better of with the Big Nikko - to my eyes anyway.

Don't get me wrong, all of the above are very competent scopes, I just guess it's where do you draw the line for a hobby :thumb:

Love this thread as I’m shortly going down the same Red/BlueWolf and was thinking of going down the thinking about the viper connect 3-12x32

I took off one of my Big Nikko's to put the Stryker on my Red Wolf, but it's such a good scope I'm keeping it even though I don't have a gun to put it on, but I have a couple of guns up for sale, so I'm sure there will be an opportunity to use it again depending on what I replace the other guns with, but I'm leaning towards the new AA Ti50 - I'll just have to wait for it's official launch :thumb:

the Sightrons AGF the March are great as BR specific scope I’m sure but might be difficult to use for a bit of plinking due to the fixed mag I think.

that Nightforce looks awesome! Very light too for a scope of that mag range. Is that the one you had on the 30cal Safari the other day? Bit pricey though. Might have to wait till I pick up a few more clients before I even think of spending that kind of money!

    @sagalout , I think we definitely found a line :p

Again, I’m sure it’s a great dedicated BR scope, but I want something a bit more flexible ideally.

maybe I should give up on that though and just have the Wolfie as a dedicated BR gun.

Less of the "we", I found the line at £120 for an Airmax :mao: (no Mrs Lout that's a typo yes it was definitely £12). I think this time next week we'll be seeing your Foxy (Citizen Smith for the youngsters amongst us) with one of these on top :laff::
