1. The Forum Rules have undergone some minor changes and updates.  Please take the time to read them; it will only take a couple of minutes of your time. By doing so, you lessen the chance of incurring the wrath of the moderation team or making yourself look foolish to other members.

90% of users posting adverts in the Sales forums need to be reminded to read the rules as their posts are wrong.  This is unnecessarily time-consuming and will no longer happen - if your advert doesn't follow the Sales Rules it will be deleted and you'll have to start all over again.

  3. Dear members,

Our membership (like our country) consists of people from all walks of life; different in far more ways than can be listed here and each with a different view based on their experience of life - regardless of their colour, religion or cultural heritage. Every single person in the UK has been born of mixed race – we are a multi-coloured and multi-cultural country.

As many of you are aware there are a handful of individuals amongst this membership that persist in making provocative, inflammatory, racist and otherwise offensive comments. This has been happening across the forum to a certain degree but is most especially prevalent in the Adult section.

The moderation team has tried to stay on top of this, however unfortunately because of the ‘offensive’ nature of much of its content we don’t monitor the Adult section quite as much as perhaps we should. As a result much of this behaviour has gone unnoticed unless it has been reported to us. While the team always intended to take a "light touch" approach to the Adult section it would seem that some people aren’t quite adult enough to be left unmonitored after all.

This behaviour is, and always has been against Forum Rules as well as the specific stipulations of the Adults forum and it will no longer be tolerated. We feel it's time to draw a line in the sand and as such from this point onward offenders will receive an immediate and permanent ban from the forum.

In order for us to achieve our goal of restoring the forum to the friendly and tolerant place it once was, we ask that ALL members be mindful of the content they post and help us to stop unacceptable behaviour by using the 'Report' tool at the bottom of any offending post - the results of which can be seen only by Admin/Moderators.

You should all receive a copy of this message by PM.

    Hi All,

The last few years have seen our sport advance with electronic PCP's, laser range finders, digital night vision, etc

What do forum members think will be the next generation of air gun advancements ?

    Cheers

    Matt W :)

smooth-twist seems like the latest decent development. As to the future, more efficiency I guess... I would like to see a really decent bullpup pcp (one that still has a cheekpiece thanks edgun)

A regged Brocock Contour would be nice...

The next real advance will be in scopes. We'll see camera and screen technology mated to BDC figures and laser rangefinding to automatically adjust a projected crosshair to the correct holdover for any target.

I remember years ago reading about laser guided pellets. They were like a hollow point but you placed a little ball on top and put them in the microwave to activate them. They were a £1 a pellet. But never heard anymore about.

YEah scopes i think. HUD Scopes, telling you wind direction, speed, basically automatically telling you what mildots to use, range finder built in.
Cheapest thermal scope i found was $16,000!!!

I think as far as springers go we are at the zenith of technology. It must cost more to make a springer than it does a pcp. I think the pcp will develop along the lines of the fx independance with its on board charging. You might see little compressors as charging kits for field use. This is no new technology though. Go back a couple of hundred years and this was the norm for airguns.
probably the biggest developements may be single and multi pump pneumatics that work more efficiently.

Also with a tilt switch for shooting at angles that are not 90 degrees to the vertical!

Yes the tilt feature would be easy to incorporate as would wind but given the micro distances we shoot over and the variability of wind over such a space it'll be of much more use to the long range full bore shooter than us.

How about a ranging scope/gun combo where the scope tells the gun the range, and the gun automatically adjusts the power output so that your pellet lands at the crosshairs.

I know there are ranging scopes that automatically move the crosshairs already. The Elcan DN does this I think.

    Cheers

I reckon mult-barrelled, fully auto .303 with laser guided pellets making 500fpe...

Or maybe the same old, same old, re-packaged and tarted up a bit at grossly inflated prices?

Yeah - green, gold, purple laminated stocks in a limited run of 200 (100 to the UK, 100 to "The Rest") with an additional £300 slapped onto the bog-standard price-tag.

    Sign me up

Its only production costs that stops progress. Most people dont know about the hydro damper, but the concept is already there.

Yep. The first models are probably going to be a disappointment but with development these scopes will see day or night (the Elcan already does), IR or thermal and make missing much more difficult.

So with all this new stuff, will we see the ranges in FT & HFT extended ?

All this Hi Tech stuff should make us all into champions otherwise ? :)

On springers there could be simple yet useful advances

A pellet holder built into the stock
    Sling swivels as std
    Powder coating NOT blueing
Use lighter materials (steel liner inside an aluminium cylinder for example and an alu trigger block (Weihrauch take note!)
