1. The Forum Rules have undergone some minor changes and updates.  Please take the time to read them; it will only take a couple of minutes of your time. By doing so, you lessen the chance of incurring the wrath of the moderation team or making yourself look foolish to other members.

90% of users posting adverts in the Sales forums need to be reminded to read the rules as their posts are wrong.  This is unnecessarily time-consuming and will no longer happen - if your advert doesn't follow the Sales Rules it will be deleted and you'll have to start all over again.

  3. Dear members,

Our membership (like our country) consists of people from all walks of life; different in far more ways than can be listed here and each with a different view based on their experience of life - regardless of their colour, religion or cultural heritage. Every single person in the UK has been born of mixed race – we are a multi-coloured and multi-cultural country.

As many of you are aware there are a handful of individuals amongst this membership that persist in making provocative, inflammatory, racist and otherwise offensive comments. This has been happening across the forum to a certain degree but is most especially prevalent in the Adult section.

The moderation team has tried to stay on top of this, however unfortunately because of the ‘offensive’ nature of much of its content we don’t monitor the Adult section quite as much as perhaps we should. As a result much of this behaviour has gone unnoticed unless it has been reported to us. While the team always intended to take a "light touch" approach to the Adult section it would seem that some people aren’t quite adult enough to be left unmonitored after all.

This behaviour is, and always has been against Forum Rules as well as the specific stipulations of the Adults forum and it will no longer be tolerated. We feel it's time to draw a line in the sand and as such from this point onward offenders will receive an immediate and permanent ban from the forum.

In order for us to achieve our goal of restoring the forum to the friendly and tolerant place it once was, we ask that ALL members be mindful of the content they post and help us to stop unacceptable behaviour by using the 'Report' tool at the bottom of any offending post - the results of which can be seen only by Admin/Moderators.

You should all receive a copy of this message by PM.

  5. Postings on Politics, Religion & Controversial Off-Topic Material

The majority of users do not want to read about these subjects and people have left the forum as a result of it – this is after all an 'Airgun' Forum. It’s all very well to say they don’t have to read it if they don't want to, but as most of us use the ‘New Posts’ button there is no easy way to avoid it.

All AGF staff members are in favour of people being able to discuss what they want, but we have to draw the line somewhere if it is upsetting other users. We don’t want to read about these topics either.

IMPORTANT- The discussion of politics and religion is no longer allowed anywhere on the forum (including the Adult section).  The only exception is if it's airgun related - they must be put in the Airgun Related Politics section..

We will not tolerate bullying or personal attacks, racism or any other offensive 'isms'. we will remove these topics from the forum, we will not give you an area where you can abuse each other. We will not hesitate to ban offenders.

I would only get involved if the offer had been made and accepted on open forum, which I think is also the case on this forum.

At this moment in time no money has changed hands, the item is still up for sale, so any intervention at this point could be seen as interfering with someone's sale, which I try not to do.

To be honest the thread's a right old mess, but I'm not going to delete any of it now to tidy it up.

I’m a member only to “attempt” to view the sales - I’ve never posted on there as AGF IMO is a more rounded forum. I can’t view the sales either and I get the impression that they’re not bothered so sod em.

i understand i think but there is enough on the open forum to substantiate my assertion that he received the PM. The amount is stated without contradiction from him and the intention to accept the highest offer is also stated. To be fair Mick its sharp practise no matter how you try to spin it and does not reflect well on the bbs. why oh why are we doing this.

Can’t you copy his pm accepting your offer on the other forum for all to see ? It may not do you any good but at least the other members will see what kind of a person the seller is.

It's just like this forum except,

...it has a worse layout, not as many helpful members, poorly managed sales area (lots of sales without images & randomly put in different sub sections of the forum), some cliques and generally, all imho, isn't worth bothering with. ;)

I used to occasionally look on it purely to see what's being sold on there but haven't done that in a long time.

Which tells me that you've never bothered to read the forum rules over there, or this thread "-**-FOR-NEW-MEMBERS-**-Why-can-t-I-see-the-FOR-SALE-section-and-sales-section-rules" which is a sticky on General Airgun, Mikey.

The fact that a new member's posts are read and approved before appearing is just another way of weeding out spambots and scammers, as we are bothered.

I’m so very glad that you’re bothered Mick and that you presume that I’m not.

I was looking for a particular gun some time ago and was told that one was for sale there so I joined up - realised at that point is was impossible to view the said gun and at that point I became “not bothered”.

    Anyway all is good:)

As an aside - isn't it funny that so many names in the sales section are rarely encountered on the rest of the forum...

If he's gone back on an accepted offer then I'd walk away, stick to this forum, I was on that one but it had a bunch of guys circling like sharks ready to jump on "non in croud" posts.

I for some reason am not allowed access into the for sale section although I have bought from there in the past . Its a poor forum as far as I am concerned with poor moderation

To be fair from the posted PMs that's not as cut and dried as it first appeared.. IMO there's a subtle difference between "I'll not go any lower than £245" and "you can have the rifle for £245".

If he'd said the latter and then backed out because he'd had a higher offer I'd consider that highly unsporting, however I see less of a problem with his behaviour given the former statement, since he's expressing that amount is as low as he'll go. As such I consider it somewhat unfair to hold him to this if he's had higher offers in the interim and hasn't categorically stated that he's accepted your offer.

i think thats rather splitting hairs he actually said i,ll not go any lower than £245 posted to which i replied if you are saying you will post at £245 send details and i will do the transfer. he said he would do it for £245. Anyway i,m fed up with it now. What goes around comes around. THE END.
