90% of users posting adverts in the Sales forums need to be reminded to read the rules as their posts are wrong.  This is unnecessarily time-consuming and will no longer happen - if your advert doesn't follow the Sales Rules it will be deleted and you'll have to start all over again.

  3. Dear members,

Our membership (like our country) consists of people from all walks of life; different in far more ways than can be listed here and each with a different view based on their experience of life - regardless of their colour, religion or cultural heritage. Every single person in the UK has been born of mixed race – we are a multi-coloured and multi-cultural country.

As many of you are aware there are a handful of individuals amongst this membership that persist in making provocative, inflammatory, racist and otherwise offensive comments. This has been happening across the forum to a certain degree but is most especially prevalent in the Adult section.

The moderation team has tried to stay on top of this, however unfortunately because of the ‘offensive’ nature of much of its content we don’t monitor the Adult section quite as much as perhaps we should. As a result much of this behaviour has gone unnoticed unless it has been reported to us. While the team always intended to take a "light touch" approach to the Adult section it would seem that some people aren’t quite adult enough to be left unmonitored after all.

This behaviour is, and always has been against Forum Rules as well as the specific stipulations of the Adults forum and it will no longer be tolerated. We feel it's time to draw a line in the sand and as such from this point onward offenders will receive an immediate and permanent ban from the forum.

In order for us to achieve our goal of restoring the forum to the friendly and tolerant place it once was, we ask that ALL members be mindful of the content they post and help us to stop unacceptable behaviour by using the 'Report' tool at the bottom of any offending post - the results of which can be seen only by Admin/Moderators.

You should all receive a copy of this message by PM.

  5. Postings on Politics, Religion & Controversial Off-Topic Material

The majority of users do not want to read about these subjects and people have left the forum as a result of it – this is after all an 'Airgun' Forum. It’s all very well to say they don’t have to read it if they don't want to, but as most of us use the ‘New Posts’ button there is no easy way to avoid it.

All AGF staff members are in favour of people being able to discuss what they want, but we have to draw the line somewhere if it is upsetting other users. We don’t want to read about these topics either.

IMPORTANT- The discussion of politics and religion is no longer allowed anywhere on the forum (including the Adult section).  The only exception is if it's airgun related - they must be put in the Airgun Related Politics section..

We will not tolerate bullying or personal attacks, racism or any other offensive 'isms'. we will remove these topics from the forum, we will not give you an area where you can abuse each other. We will not hesitate to ban offenders.

Well Pistols seem to be coming up more and more so time for another Guide!

    Firstly The law:
It is perfectly legal to own and shoot a air pistol that produces less than 6ft lbs energy. Any more than this and it becomes a prohibited handgun which carries a hefty jail sentence!

Also there are often questions regarding a air pistols suitability for hunting.
They CAN be used to hunt at VERY short range, We are talking about a full power (5-6fpe) Pistol used on rats/squirrels at a range of around 10m max.
Of course this is dependent on you being a good enough shot to humanely dispatch quarry with a well placed head shot.

    So what pistols are there?

There are 5 basic types of air pistol, These are:

Springer: Powered by spring! Reliable and fast. A single stroke to cock the gun and you are away! Allthough they do have a recoil they are normally medium to high power.

    Single/Multi stroke pneumatic:
Powered by a pneumatic ram, These are pumped up by hand and have no recoil again medium to high powered.

    CO2:
Powered by carbon dioxide capsules, These are generally low powered guns mostly used for fun and target shooting. These guns can be multi shot or single shot. You have to buy CO2 capsules to power the gun (around £5 for 10) and its worth knowing that because its compressed gas it doesn't expand as much in cold weather so looses power.
    Again no recoil.

    PCP:
Pre-charged Pneumatics have a air cylinder which stores air.
These guns are pumped up either using a stirrup pump or from a Divers cylinder.
These guns are generally full power and don't suffer from recoil, Also it has multi shot capabilities.

    Brocock TAC pistols:
These can no longer be brought or sold in the UK but people do have them from before they were banned.
These guns now have to be kept on a Fire arms Certificate.
They are powered by a Pre-charged Cartridge where the pellet is inserted into the end of the capsule.
They then work like a center fire gun where when the trigger is pulled the hammer strikes the firing pin of the cartridge and shoots the pellet.
These are medium powered guns and usually multi shot.

    So what do I want?

Well this is the Hard part.

If you want a fun target pistol or something to plink with in the back yard most people like a CO2 pistol. I can highly recommend the Beretta 92FS, The Walther CP88 or the Smith and Wesson 586 revolvers.
Although if you take your target shooting serious I recommend getting the CP88/92FS with competition sights which are fully adjustable.

So what if you something which isn't affected in the cold or something to hunt with?

Well This then becomes a personal preference thing.

Silent hunting: I would suggest a PCP with a silencer fitted, There are lots to choose from but have a look at the Brocock series of pistols. They are all very good quality.

    Or not so Silent:
Springer or Pneumatic, Something full power and always ready. I recommend the Webley Alecto or the HW45/HW40.

Serious/competition Target Pistol: PCP, No pumping or cocking to wear your arms out! (unless you pump it up by hand afterwards :p)
Again have a look at the Brococks or Rohm and Crossman make some good target pistols.

Any of the guns can be used to target shoot and of course any of the guns with the exception of the CO2 guns can be used for hunting.

Very helpfull, im hoping to buy a 2nd pistol off a fellow user in a week or so. Its a Webley Tempest as i really like the looks of that bad boy and I fancy a springer to go with my P17.

I reckon I could do a Rabbit at 10metres if it werent hopping about, im hitting Deoderant cans at 10metres in my back yard with the P17 and theyre exploding all over the place in a shower of Lynx Africa! (1st or 2nd shot usually) Easy enough to hit and the pellet goes straight through them, has to be noted my gun has an advertised 410fps and cost £60 so some of these more expensive pistols should **** it!

Tempest Is a fine pistol, But to be taking a rat at 10 meters you need to be getting alot beter groups than a Lynx can LOL

Tbh I wouldn't trust my .22 Tempest at 10 metres on a rat. 3-4 metres maybe.

    :)

Here are my two favourites at the moment......

    full.jpg

    full.jpg

    Crosman 600 semi-autos.

Load ten (well, twelve .22 Verminpells will fit) into the inbuilt slide and pull the trigger as fast as you can! Around 5 ft lbs, they're a hoot!!

Quite rare in the UK, expect to pay £300 for a VGC example and £400 in chrome.

    Worth every penny!

    ;)

I retired a year ago and had been looking for an interest, other than the many hours that I spend in the Peak District National Park. My first purchase was a Tempest .22, my next was an EB22, I am currently in the process of acquiring an HW45. I quite fancy an Alecto and a Gamo, this hobby is not that expensive if you shop around carefully, is very interesting and my purchases actually do something interesting.

I have found folk on this forum to be very helpful, and have actually have been of assistance to a member myself. Most members have more than one gun, and am minded to think that you will be no different, blame these guys, that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it. ;)

It could be a lot worse, a guy down our street collects cars, he currently has five. In the unlikely event that I tire of my guns I would have no trouble selling them, I'm a tight arsed Yorkshireman who never pays over the odds for anything, seriously though I enjoy finding something that I'm interested in, at a price that I can afford.
