1. The Forum Rules have undergone some minor changes and updates.  Please take the time to read them; it will only take a couple of minutes of your time. By doing so, you lessen the chance of incurring the wrath of the moderation team or making yourself look foolish to other members.

90% of users posting adverts in the Sales forums need to be reminded to read the rules as their posts are wrong.  This is unnecessarily time-consuming and will no longer happen - if your advert doesn't follow the Sales Rules it will be deleted and you'll have to start all over again.

3. Dear members,

Our membership (like our country) consists of people from all walks of life; different in far more ways than can be listed here and each with a different view based on their experience of life - regardless of their colour, religion or cultural heritage. Every single person in the UK has been born of mixed race – we are a multi-coloured and multi-cultural country.

As many of you are aware there are a handful of individuals amongst this membership that persist in making provocative, inflammatory, racist and otherwise offensive comments. This has been happening across the forum to a certain degree but is most especially prevalent in the Adult section.

The moderation team has tried to stay on top of this, however unfortunately because of the ‘offensive’ nature of much of its content we don’t monitor the Adult section quite as much as perhaps we should. As a result much of this behaviour has gone unnoticed unless it has been reported to us. While the team always intended to take a "light touch" approach to the Adult section it would seem that some people aren’t quite adult enough to be left unmonitored after all.

This behaviour is, and always has been against Forum Rules as well as the specific stipulations of the Adults forum and it will no longer be tolerated. We feel it's time to draw a line in the sand and as such from this point onward offenders will receive an immediate and permanent ban from the forum.

In order for us to achieve our goal of restoring the forum to the friendly and tolerant place it once was, we ask that ALL members be mindful of the content they post and help us to stop unacceptable behaviour by using the 'Report' tool at the bottom of any offending post - the results of which can be seen only by Admin/Moderators.

You should all receive a copy of this message by PM.

5. Postings on Politics, Religion & Controversial Off-Topic Material

The majority of users do not want to read about these subjects and people have left the forum as a result of it – this is after all an 'Airgun' Forum. It’s all very well to say they don’t have to read it if they don't want to, but as most of us use the ‘New Posts’ button there is no easy way to avoid it.

All AGF staff members are in favour of people being able to discuss what they want, but we have to draw the line somewhere if it is upsetting other users. We don’t want to read about these topics either.

IMPORTANT- The discussion of politics and religion is no longer allowed anywhere on the forum (including the Adult section).  The only exception is if it's airgun related - they must be put in the Airgun Related Politics section..

We will not tolerate bullying or personal attacks, racism or any other offensive 'isms'. we will remove these topics from the forum, we will not give you an area where you can abuse each other. We will not hesitate to ban offenders.

What don't I like about airgun videos? Reviews that just show the rifle and talk about its obvious features without a shooting test as proof of its accuracy.
This may have been said before but I'm not reading 7 pages just to find out.

I hate the videos that say for example "HW97 review" & when you watch it, it's 2 minutes of badly shot video of someone fiddling with a gun with bad background music & no narration at all. Drives me nuts. If you're putting review in the title bl00dy review it.

I like Big Dan's site. He generally tells it how it is. Chrono'd on camera usually. Reviews out of box (more on that later). Honest about trigger, build quality etc. I would like to see more on the accuracy of the guns.

It is good to see accuracy judged straight out of the box Dan & I know you review what the customer is getting from new & that is a good idea but I think most people want to know how the gun beds in & how the accuracy settles.
I for one would not buy a gun based just on accuracy reviewed straight out of the box.

Like I said I like Dan's reviews but I think a bit more in depth critiquing would be very welcome. Maybe two videos, the out of the box review & then a follow up one with indepth accuracy assessment, pellet testing, chrono & tuning potential (mainly springer tuning).

If more followed Dan's lead & also did the follow up videos it would be a definite valuable resource.

On the subject of the vermin shooting videos. I have hunted & know the reality of shooting a living thing. It is not for everyone & is sometimes hard to see, but I am genuinely disturbed seeing animals /birds blatantly suffering.

I know the difference in residual nerve activity & wounding suffering. It makes my blood boil, especially when you get the shooter celebrating a "good shot"

Worst I have seen is some tw4t lining up Pigeons to take two with one shot. I don't care if you've got a 567ft/lb slug shooting monster, it's one shot ONE KILL.

I like the ones who say it as it is. Good and bad about the guns, you get a proper review and can make your own mind up.
If they're doing accuracy, I like to see the gun in a vice or clamp so it's down to the gun not the shooter.
Still nice to see a very good shot shoot them and give opinions.

Matt Dubber is good at what he's done with FX and slugs in airguns. Brought the industry forward. Decent shot and watchable.
Ted's Holdover was good to watch, he puts out lots less content now though. Wonder if he gets back in with EdGun and others or stays in FX pocket.

Another thing about Y-T airgun reviews that I dislike with a vengeance, is that I see an awful lot of beautiful objects that I can't afford - the same thing can be said of the "Aesthetically pleasing thread" ;) :thumb:
...

5 The reviews are non structured in any way, he tries to speak to quickly and about everything at once, which then results in a load of jibberish...
Spot on, Jonnyvoy. Structure is the missing ingredient in almost all airgun videos--and many, many YouTube videos. Many must just switch on the GoPro and start gabbling. Hollywood films have huge budgets to cover re-shoots and handle unforeseen circumstances, but what is needed in the can necessitates content to be nailed down at the start--that's why scripts exist as a blueprint. Even documentaries have versions of them.
A lot of those airgun vids I've seen would benefit from some simple planning. Attempts to plan and structure always reveal weakness. And in many cases reveal that the gob with the camera actually has little or nothing to say. :D

Not that many fanboys of Airgun related Youtube stuff from the posts so far. I think this one is in a differ league though.
Making .30 slugs is fabulous and the whole video a cut above. See what you think.

I think Squirrel Hunter said he is focusing on family. He said the purpose of his videos was to show the ethical and effective use of air rifles, and he feels he has done that. SHC has been my gold standard for air rifle hunting for years.

As far as effective range, it's the same old question. At what distance can you hit your percentage goal? 20 yards, 50 yards, 150 yards? Most of my pigeon shots are 50-65 yards from the same measured locations. On a pigeon sized target shooting .25s@70 ft lbs, I rarely miss or have a wounding shot. I've hunted with people that are taking pigeons at 200 and beyond, but I'm not there yet, and would not try it without substantial dope telling me that I and the gun were up to it.

There is one channel with a lot of long range pigeon shooting that had a video up where every shot was "and he's down" but you didn't see the actual dead pigeon. In one episode, there was a supposedly dead pigeon sitting next to the previously supposedly dead pigeon, and they were both alert, moving their heads around looking at each other like "how long are we supposed to sit here playing dead?" I haven't been able to find that video again, so it must have gotten taken down.

Yeah, taking multiple shots that are obviously being badly thrown off by the wind is just stupidity writ large. If it is obvious the shots are nowhere near the aiming point (you even hear them saying a shot is off by a metre) then stop immediately. Sounds like they were shooting repeatedly hoping to hit. I wonder how many rabbits were wounded off camera.
Any hunter who knows his stuff will know within two shots if the conditions are viable.
