1. The Forum Rules have undergone some minor changes and updates.  Please take the time to read them; it will only take a couple of minutes of your time. By doing so, you lessen the chance of incurring the wrath of the moderation team or making yourself look foolish to other members.

90% of users posting adverts in the Sales forums need to be reminded to read the rules as their posts are wrong.  This is unnecessarily time-consuming and will no longer happen - if your advert doesn't follow the Sales Rules it will be deleted and you'll have to start all over again.

  3. Dear members,

Our membership (like our country) consists of people from all walks of life; different in far more ways than can be listed here and each with a different view based on their experience of life - regardless of their colour, religion or cultural heritage. Every single person in the UK has been born of mixed race – we are a multi-coloured and multi-cultural country.

As many of you are aware there are a handful of individuals amongst this membership that persist in making provocative, inflammatory, racist and otherwise offensive comments. This has been happening across the forum to a certain degree but is most especially prevalent in the Adult section.

The moderation team has tried to stay on top of this, however unfortunately because of the ‘offensive’ nature of much of its content we don’t monitor the Adult section quite as much as perhaps we should. As a result much of this behaviour has gone unnoticed unless it has been reported to us. While the team always intended to take a "light touch" approach to the Adult section it would seem that some people aren’t quite adult enough to be left unmonitored after all.

This behaviour is, and always has been against Forum Rules as well as the specific stipulations of the Adults forum and it will no longer be tolerated. We feel it's time to draw a line in the sand and as such from this point onward offenders will receive an immediate and permanent ban from the forum.

In order for us to achieve our goal of restoring the forum to the friendly and tolerant place it once was, we ask that ALL members be mindful of the content they post and help us to stop unacceptable behaviour by using the 'Report' tool at the bottom of any offending post - the results of which can be seen only by Admin/Moderators.

You should all receive a copy of this message by PM.

  5. Postings on Politics, Religion & Controversial Off-Topic Material

The majority of users do not want to read about these subjects and people have left the forum as a result of it – this is after all an 'Airgun' Forum. It’s all very well to say they don’t have to read it if they don't want to, but as most of us use the ‘New Posts’ button there is no easy way to avoid it.

All AGF staff members are in favour of people being able to discuss what they want, but we have to draw the line somewhere if it is upsetting other users. We don’t want to read about these topics either.

IMPORTANT- The discussion of politics and religion is no longer allowed anywhere on the forum (including the Adult section).  The only exception is if it's airgun related - they must be put in the Airgun Related Politics section..

We will not tolerate bullying or personal attacks, racism or any other offensive 'isms'. we will remove these topics from the forum, we will not give you an area where you can abuse each other. We will not hesitate to ban offenders.

As many of you will know, I am returning to the fold after many years away. I have been avidly reading up on what is available, and to be honest, I have come to the conclusion that one is better off coming to this forum for information regarding the various rifles that are available to us these days. I have yet to read a review where the reviewer calls a spade a shovel! I don't expect them to be downright rude about any manufacturers products, but come on, they can't all be good, but that's the impression I get from reading their reviews. Even the video reviews are not much better.

If one is going to do a review on a product, whether it be a washing machine or an air rifle, surely it's better to be honest and point out any short comings? Surely it's better for the manufacturer, and better for the customer who after all is handing over his or her hard earned for something they hope will give them pleasure, and do what it says on the tin?

As for me, I was left feeling that I was on me own, and after much research, I have made me mind up and ordered what I hope will suit me. I will say though that some of you esteemed members have been very helpful to me with making that decision.

    (Rant mode off):)

    Ichabod.

Dis-regard any magazine reviews you've ever read and stick to opinions on the forums.

I have ordered a Diana 54 Airking, via Welsh William, all being well. I need summat heavy, and summat that will last me until I don't want to shoot anymore. I am also going to be looking for summat that I can ring the changes with now and again, must be a springer though, can't be doin' with any of they new fangled PCP phut guns!:D

In fact I am going to be looking at designing a sort of air rifle megaphone, sort of the antithesis of the silencer, nowt like a good bang I always say!

I found that the airgun industry in this country is small indeed, and without the support of the manufacturers for revenue and product the magazines simply would not survive. So they are very careful not to be too vocal, to the point which you have made - they say they are all good, so devalue the review anyway, but at least they are still in a job.

    So I agree, it's all bo**ocks.

86% of all statistics are made up...

... probably by the same people who give glowing product reports to magazines...

.177 because I wanted the flatter trajectory for paper punching, and I am told that the 54 Airking is very accurate for longer ranges.

Oh yes, you should enjoy it. I use crosman premier pellets in both weights both out of the cartons. Not found anything any better but then I havnt tried them all. The heavier also sold in tins as ultra magnums are easier to handle as their longer.
    i love my 54s .

I used to write a column for an RC model flying magazine many years back.
Reviewing was a double edged sword! Let me explain.......
The Editor was a decent, straight up kind of guy, and not afraid of calling a spade a shovel! However, it's a simple fact that a magazines' income usually comes from it's advertising revenue more than it's distribution revenue.... or what it recieved from copies sold.
So if you get sent a product to review from a manufacturer who books advertising with you, and you slate the product for the piece of crap is actually is.... your advertising buyer is likely to b****r off!

On the other hand if you review said piece of rubbish and give it a glowing review....... your readership catches on after a while and you lose your credibility!

The line which my editor chose to tiptoe along was that we would NOT review a piece of crap! It would not appear in the magazine as a slating review, but neither would it appear with a load of porkies being told about it! He would reinforce this stance in his editorial about once a year by choosing his words carefully, and saying roughly what I just told you.
The result was the magazine wasn't exactly rolling in cash(advertising revenue), but people soon caught on and the people who chose to put forward stuff for review thought carefully about what to send! And people would often just not buy something if it didn't appear in the magazine as a review.
    The magazine had excellent credibility!

That seems like a proper way of carrying on, if perhaps not as lucrative as telling fairy tales.

Yup had to strip it first and remove someone's attempt at tuning ,it was once re fitted only shooting around 11.3 ft lbs it had no creep up following from memory was very consistent too .very lazy action but felt very sweet and def much improved over how it was and too standard form.
most my 52s are only between 10.6 and 11.4 too even in . 22. But that's how I like them.
Best springer I have played with
