1. The Forum Rules have undergone some minor changes and updates.  Please take the time to read them; it will only take a couple of minutes of your time. By doing so, you lessen the chance of incurring the wrath of the moderation team or making yourself look foolish to other members.

90% of users posting adverts in the Sales forums need to be reminded to read the rules as their posts are wrong.  This is unnecessarily time-consuming and will no longer happen - if your advert doesn't follow the Sales Rules it will be deleted and you'll have to start all over again.

  3. Dear members,

Our membership (like our country) consists of people from all walks of life; different in far more ways than can be listed here and each with a different view based on their experience of life - regardless of their colour, religion or cultural heritage. Every single person in the UK has been born of mixed race – we are a multi-coloured and multi-cultural country.

As many of you are aware there are a handful of individuals amongst this membership that persist in making provocative, inflammatory, racist and otherwise offensive comments. This has been happening across the forum to a certain degree but is most especially prevalent in the Adult section.

The moderation team has tried to stay on top of this, however unfortunately because of the ‘offensive’ nature of much of its content we don’t monitor the Adult section quite as much as perhaps we should. As a result much of this behaviour has gone unnoticed unless it has been reported to us. While the team always intended to take a "light touch" approach to the Adult section it would seem that some people aren’t quite adult enough to be left unmonitored after all.

This behaviour is, and always has been against Forum Rules as well as the specific stipulations of the Adults forum and it will no longer be tolerated. We feel it's time to draw a line in the sand and as such from this point onward offenders will receive an immediate and permanent ban from the forum.

In order for us to achieve our goal of restoring the forum to the friendly and tolerant place it once was, we ask that ALL members be mindful of the content they post and help us to stop unacceptable behaviour by using the 'Report' tool at the bottom of any offending post - the results of which can be seen only by Admin/Moderators.

  5. Postings on Politics, Religion & Controversial Off-Topic Material

The majority of users do not want to read about these subjects and people have left the forum as a result of it – this is after all an 'Airgun' Forum. It’s all very well to say they don’t have to read it if they don't want to, but as most of us use the ‘New Posts’ button there is no easy way to avoid it.

All AGF staff members are in favour of people being able to discuss what they want, but we have to draw the line somewhere if it is upsetting other users. We don’t want to read about these topics either.

IMPORTANT- The discussion of politics and religion is no longer allowed anywhere on the forum (including the Adult section).  The only exception is if it's airgun related - they must be put in the Airgun Related Politics section..

We will not tolerate bullying or personal attacks, racism or any other offensive 'isms'. we will remove these topics from the forum, we will not give you an area where you can abuse each other. We will not hesitate to ban offenders.

Advice TX200 Barrel - Poor Finish?

Discussion in 'Anything Airgun Related' started by Jimbob 2705, Jun 25, 2014.

Today I removed a TX200 Mk1 .177 Barrel as I was struggling to get consistent groups with it. It seems to group for 3 or 4 shots, then suddenly don't group at all!

I've tried 8 different type of pellets now, with no luck yet which is a tad frustrating!

I'm a little concerned as I would of thought it would of been accurate with some of the pellets I've tried - JSB Exacts 4.52 + 4.53, Exact Express, Webley Mossies, H&N FTT, Webley Accupell, Falcon Accuracy Plus and a couple of others.

I've been testing at 35 yards, and I've had the same pellet shoot a 5 hole group in almost one hole (8mm edge to edge) then the next 5 shots all over the place (30mm+). It then might group for a couple more shots then off it goes again, and the POI seems to move all around the place. It was also wasn't consistent at 25 yards.

I'm almost 100% sure its not me and the rifle shouldn't be hold sensitive with the state of tune it is currently in!

So I took the barrel off, as I wanted a closer look. I used a hair dryer, a wooden broom handle for the start then a old pool cue sanded to the correct size for the later part - I made sure no damage was done to the barrel.:)

The muzzle crown looks to be in good condition, along with a decent finish so I'm fairly sure its not at that end.

The breech end though, is a different matter!

Look at the photos here : https://flic.kr/s/aHsjZaptAA

The finish on it looks terrible! :(

It looks nothing like a TX200 Mk3 or a HW97 Barrel which I've compared it to, as they have a smooth consistent chamfer/taper whereas this is ragged, inconsistent and if anything possibly off centre.

The big question is : Could this be cause of my inaccuracy?! If so, is there anything I could do to try to improve things?

    Many Thanks,

    James

PS - Before you all ask, yes all stock screws are tight, tried a different scope, mounts, etc ;):p

my tx loves JSB Exacts 4.52 a rough edge to the barrel could produce all sorts of nastys accuracy wise

If you can get a close group of 5 pellets at 35 yds and then you can't it doesn't sound as if anything is wrong with the barrel....does it?

Dag, I disagree with you if I'm honest - it could be something that for those 5 pellets they loaded correctly, but the others have loaded differently, possibly been shaved by the ragged edge, and hence inaccurate...

I'm guessing your sugesting it is me - which I hate to say it, but it's certainly not me ;)

In part I suppose I am implying that as I have been there myself and looked for everything wrong with my rifle only to be shown it was me that was doing something wrong. Your comment about the number of pellet types tried could mean you are never settling the rifle down to handle one type but you don't say how how quickly you changed from one to another so it's impossible to say whether this is behind it.
it's just that I find it hard to see a small group " loading correctly" and then all others not and for this to be repeated given you say it is consistent for "3 or 4 shots" and also mention the 5 shot group.
I guess the rifle is a recent purchase as you are trying to test a number of different pellets?
Perhaps others can offer suggestions but Yes I think ultimately it will either be you and your handling of the rifle, or you have another problem which causes intermittent variations. Something tells me a faulty barrel will be a source of inconsistency all the time and not be good at times and bad at others.
I hope you do resolve it though
