1. The Forum Rules have undergone some minor changes and updates.  Please take the time to read them; it will only take a couple of minutes of your time. By doing so, you lessen the chance of incurring the wrath of the moderation team or making yourself look foolish to other members.

90% of users posting adverts in the Sales forums need to be reminded to read the rules as their posts are wrong.  This is unnecessarily time-consuming and will no longer happen - if your advert doesn't follow the Sales Rules it will be deleted and you'll have to start all over again.

  3. Dear members,

Our membership (like our country) consists of people from all walks of life; different in far more ways than can be listed here and each with a different view based on their experience of life - regardless of their colour, religion or cultural heritage. Every single person in the UK has been born of mixed race – we are a multi-coloured and multi-cultural country.

As many of you are aware there are a handful of individuals amongst this membership that persist in making provocative, inflammatory, racist and otherwise offensive comments. This has been happening across the forum to a certain degree but is most especially prevalent in the Adult section.

The moderation team has tried to stay on top of this, however unfortunately because of the ‘offensive’ nature of much of its content we don’t monitor the Adult section quite as much as perhaps we should. As a result much of this behaviour has gone unnoticed unless it has been reported to us. While the team always intended to take a "light touch" approach to the Adult section it would seem that some people aren’t quite adult enough to be left unmonitored after all.

This behaviour is, and always has been against Forum Rules as well as the specific stipulations of the Adults forum and it will no longer be tolerated. We feel it's time to draw a line in the sand and as such from this point onward offenders will receive an immediate and permanent ban from the forum.

In order for us to achieve our goal of restoring the forum to the friendly and tolerant place it once was, we ask that ALL members be mindful of the content they post and help us to stop unacceptable behaviour by using the 'Report' tool at the bottom of any offending post - the results of which can be seen only by Admin/Moderators.

You should all receive a copy of this message by PM.

  5. Postings on Politics, Religion & Controversial Off-Topic Material

The majority of users do not want to read about these subjects and people have left the forum as a result of it – this is after all an 'Airgun' Forum. It’s all very well to say they don’t have to read it if they don't want to, but as most of us use the ‘New Posts’ button there is no easy way to avoid it.

All AGF staff members are in favour of people being able to discuss what they want, but we have to draw the line somewhere if it is upsetting other users. We don’t want to read about these topics either.

IMPORTANT- The discussion of politics and religion is no longer allowed anywhere on the forum (including the Adult section).  The only exception is if it's airgun related - they must be put in the Airgun Related Politics section..

We will not tolerate bullying or personal attacks, racism or any other offensive 'isms'. we will remove these topics from the forum, we will not give you an area where you can abuse each other. We will not hesitate to ban offenders.

When I lived there (Kentucky) I spent time partying, shooting, fishing and dirt bike riding with quiet a few 'good ole boys' and I never heard one racist comment although there was a 'them and us' type attitude. Americans to me seem like a hard drinking Irish family, in that they all fight amongst themselves most of the time but when an outside threat appears they are all joined at the hip.

I was thinking more along the lines of States like Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, Missouri and perhaps on or two others.

I spent a lot of time working in those States and the same attitude there. All the Rednecks, Hillbillies etc I met seemed to have black friends from school or work so I never met the 'Hollywood' version of a racist cracker.

Redneck is actually a phrase I dislike. I see it as the 'white' equivalent of Nigger (a word I also dislike) and equally racist. It exclusively and negatively racially references white people, and in particular, the poorer less educated ones. Just like the other word does to black people. It's origins are in reference to the dirt farmers who had to spend all day in the fields, often in stoop labour, getting their necks sunburnt. But never mind, it's only slagging off white people, so no harm done.

An old friend of mine Leroy (very stereotypical name I know but not made up) pulled me up one day, I referred to him as 'Coloured' in conversation trying not to offend, he looked at me and said do I look like a bhumboclaart rainbow? I'm black! - So I've since referred to blacks as blacks, we have a black carer called Jackie who visits every day and she says the same - trust me she's a 'strong' black woman and would let you know of any offense!

I think white apologists look for reasons to defend blacks and other races when really they just want you to say what you see, I think racism, Islamophobia and all these other bullsh1t words are all made up to put labels on each other and cause division.

It was never this way 20 years ago - what's changed?

That's been my experience too it's mainly white lefties that get angry at such things as the "B" word I remember when they interviewed the black guy (I hope that didn't offend anyone) from love thy neighbour a couple of years ago and he said the world has gone crazy and soon the word blonde would be deemed offensive.

And there you have it. The apologists. And they were there 20 years ago. They were there 40 years ago. They just have got more vocal. If you want an example of the apologists and the abusers in one image try Diane Abbott. The is the vilest example of what is wrong.

Some Americans I met were proud to call themselves Rednecks, cracker and wasp seemed to be considered offensive.

No one gets offended by the use of the word "black"; it's just a descriptor the same as the word "white" is; neither are necessarily accurate but they work. The problem arises when one generalises any group of people, be that due to ethnicity, sexuality, disability or whatever.

What exactly is an apologist? Who are they? Why should being a Lefty make you one?

It's possible that you have missed an aspect of the issue. It's not that anyone gets offended by certain words. The problem comes when people intentionally claim offence where none is, for their own advantage.

Here's a nice story of police officer brutally beating an innocent black man for the sake of it.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-40419910

Not that it happened, but why let facts stop a good victimisation claim? The lies are treated like it's no big deal but the fact is, one or more people started a lie, knew it was a lie, but wanted to spread disharmony and cause trouble on the back of the death of this man. And for many people it will be an article of faith that he was in fact beaten and killed by the police simply because he was black. His death will be a rallying cry for the 'rioting and looting for equality' crew.

May be,perhaps it depends on what part of the State you were in as i wasn't suggesting that all people in those States were or are racists but right up until the end of the 60s States like Alabama and Georgia were openly racist with their segregation laws i.e black people were not allowed to sit next to white people on buses, they had separate sections and were expected to give up their seat(ref Rosa Parks) if the white section was full. They were also not allowed in the same restaurants or bars unless it had a separate sections for blacks. In fact the only place more racist at that time was South Africa with its apartheid laws/policy.
I believe the KKK is still alive and well in some of those States and has a decent following among some of the bible bashing white folk and white supremacists.
