1. The Forum Rules have undergone some minor changes and updates.  Please take the time to read them; it will only take a couple of minutes of your time. By doing so, you lessen the chance of incurring the wrath of the moderation team or making yourself look foolish to other members.

90% of users posting adverts in the Sales forums need to be reminded to read the rules as their posts are wrong.  This is unnecessarily time-consuming and will no longer happen - if your advert doesn't follow the Sales Rules it will be deleted and you'll have to start all over again.

  3. Dear members,

Our membership (like our country) consists of people from all walks of life; different in far more ways than can be listed here and each with a different view based on their experience of life - regardless of their colour, religion or cultural heritage. Every single person in the UK has been born of mixed race – we are a multi-coloured and multi-cultural country.

As many of you are aware there are a handful of individuals amongst this membership that persist in making provocative, inflammatory, racist and otherwise offensive comments. This has been happening across the forum to a certain degree but is most especially prevalent in the Adult section.

The moderation team has tried to stay on top of this, however unfortunately because of the ‘offensive’ nature of much of its content we don’t monitor the Adult section quite as much as perhaps we should. As a result much of this behaviour has gone unnoticed unless it has been reported to us. While the team always intended to take a "light touch" approach to the Adult section it would seem that some people aren’t quite adult enough to be left unmonitored after all.

This behaviour is, and always has been against Forum Rules as well as the specific stipulations of the Adults forum and it will no longer be tolerated. We feel it's time to draw a line in the sand and as such from this point onward offenders will receive an immediate and permanent ban from the forum.

In order for us to achieve our goal of restoring the forum to the friendly and tolerant place it once was, we ask that ALL members be mindful of the content they post and help us to stop unacceptable behaviour by using the 'Report' tool at the bottom of any offending post - the results of which can be seen only by Admin/Moderators.

You should all receive a copy of this message by PM.

  5. Postings on Politics, Religion & Controversial Off-Topic Material

The majority of users do not want to read about these subjects and people have left the forum as a result of it – this is after all an 'Airgun' Forum. It’s all very well to say they don’t have to read it if they don't want to, but as most of us use the ‘New Posts’ button there is no easy way to avoid it.

All AGF staff members are in favour of people being able to discuss what they want, but we have to draw the line somewhere if it is upsetting other users. We don’t want to read about these topics either.

IMPORTANT- The discussion of politics and religion is no longer allowed anywhere on the forum (including the Adult section).  The only exception is if it's airgun related - they must be put in the Airgun Related Politics section..

We will not tolerate bullying or personal attacks, racism or any other offensive 'isms'. we will remove these topics from the forum, we will not give you an area where you can abuse each other. We will not hesitate to ban offenders.

Don't be downhearted about it, Lev. Whether or not people think it was the right thing to do, I don't think that anybody reckons your kindness was in any doubt. :)

Totally agree Cloverleaf some lowlife is bound to take advantage of the generosity shown by some members on this forum.
I believe there was a case a while back on the BB* of someone giving some sort of sob story which i think turned out to be false so no doubt they will try or have tried it here.

To all the mods-thanks for giving this some forum space, and making a ruling. While Mike may have put the post up, I think we know it was discussed amongst all of them, before a decision was made, and I suspect it was a hard one.

@Lev Levvin - Dont beat yourself up- I'd rather know someone who did what they thought was right for the right reasons. You made it very clear it wasnt to you, and the intention was nothing but honorable. Anyone helping someone out is good in my book :)

@claude - If you are sending money back, it might take a while! However it shows you are one of the good ones indeed. I know we all felt for you, being scammed is never a good thing. I dont believe in karma, but I do believe in passing it on. If I see a wanted ad from you, and Its something that I'm to move, well, the price will have a bit more flexibility than usual. everyone deserves a break.

    @Lev Levvin
Your heart was in the right place. But some of the others have pointed out some facts and definitely some reality checks and they are/were right to do so and I thank them. Now that Claude has stated he is refunding everyone lets move on. But please rest assured you did nothing wrong. A wave of good intentions happened and that's all that matters. This community likes to look out for all it's members and that's a good thing.

On the theme of Soliciting:- Old joke in old money

Husband sends out wife to sell her body. Wife returns with two pounds ten and six pence. Husband said who gave you six pence. Wife says they all did.

Correct, Patrick, he got away with £830.95, which put a stop to crowdfunding over there.

He is now an active member on the AGF.

Maybe rather than Claude have to do what ever it takes to refund everyone, which sounds a bit onerous, and he didn’t ask for it, wouldn’t it be better for him to just give it to a charity. Everyone seemed happy to part with it. Or maybe he should just keep it.
I should say I did not contribute so it ain’t my money but just a suggestion to maybe save him a lot of work. I don’t know how hard it would be.

And it's irrelevant whether he has 10 other rifles at home, that was never the point of the exercise.

Definitely the right decision to protect he forum from others not so nice jumping on that particular bandwagon :thumb:

I think the decison by the moderators to prevent such posts is a sensible one.

I've previously contributed many times in "giving" of this nature including to the "scammer" named in the top of this post by @cloverleaf.

When anyone gets taken for money or goods its a shame.

I didn't give to the Claude fund, as I myself buy on freeads. I'm aware as everyone else is, that buying at distance has its risks. I've taken those risks many times myself. I'm also aware that at some point, my own luck may run out and I'll suffer the same fate as Claude, but thats my choice if I continue to buy at distance from unknown sources. What I will add is that if I do, I normally ask for a pic of the seller's driving licence. No one has actually refused me that yet. Not certain assurance by any means, but it may just prevent a dodgy seller.

I'll also add that I'm aware claude didn't ask for any donations. I read his posts (and replied to some) which further reinforce the risk of distance buying. Like everyone else, its gutting to see anyone done over for any amount of money big or small.
Claude's posts were merely frustration at being scammed and a warning to others.

Lastly the post started by Lev which generated donations to Claude, was done with good heart and the donations were freely given.
They were given because he'd been scammed. Claude's level of finances, how many rifles he owns, buys or sells, had no relevance to any of the givers.

The situation on here has now changed so if we're looking to help anyone out in future, it just can't be done via a crowd funding post on the forum.
