1. The Forum Rules have undergone some minor changes and updates.  Please take the time to read them; it will only take a couple of minutes of your time. By doing so, you lessen the chance of incurring the wrath of the moderation team or making yourself look foolish to other members.

90% of users posting adverts in the Sales forums need to be reminded to read the rules as their posts are wrong.  This is unnecessarily time-consuming and will no longer happen - if your advert doesn't follow the Sales Rules it will be deleted and you'll have to start all over again.

  3. Dear members,

Our membership (like our country) consists of people from all walks of life; different in far more ways than can be listed here and each with a different view based on their experience of life - regardless of their colour, religion or cultural heritage. Every single person in the UK has been born of mixed race – we are a multi-coloured and multi-cultural country.

As many of you are aware there are a handful of individuals amongst this membership that persist in making provocative, inflammatory, racist and otherwise offensive comments. This has been happening across the forum to a certain degree but is most especially prevalent in the Adult section.

The moderation team has tried to stay on top of this, however unfortunately because of the ‘offensive’ nature of much of its content we don’t monitor the Adult section quite as much as perhaps we should. As a result much of this behaviour has gone unnoticed unless it has been reported to us. While the team always intended to take a "light touch" approach to the Adult section it would seem that some people aren’t quite adult enough to be left unmonitored after all.

This behaviour is, and always has been against Forum Rules as well as the specific stipulations of the Adults forum and it will no longer be tolerated. We feel it's time to draw a line in the sand and as such from this point onward offenders will receive an immediate and permanent ban from the forum.

In order for us to achieve our goal of restoring the forum to the friendly and tolerant place it once was, we ask that ALL members be mindful of the content they post and help us to stop unacceptable behaviour by using the 'Report' tool at the bottom of any offending post - the results of which can be seen only by Admin/Moderators.

You should all receive a copy of this message by PM.

  5. Postings on Politics, Religion & Controversial Off-Topic Material

The majority of users do not want to read about these subjects and people have left the forum as a result of it – this is after all an 'Airgun' Forum. It’s all very well to say they don’t have to read it if they don't want to, but as most of us use the ‘New Posts’ button there is no easy way to avoid it.

All AGF staff members are in favour of people being able to discuss what they want, but we have to draw the line somewhere if it is upsetting other users. We don’t want to read about these topics either.

IMPORTANT- The discussion of politics and religion is no longer allowed anywhere on the forum (including the Adult section).  The only exception is if it's airgun related - they must be put in the Airgun Related Politics section..

We will not tolerate bullying or personal attacks, racism or any other offensive 'isms'. we will remove these topics from the forum, we will not give you an area where you can abuse each other. We will not hesitate to ban offenders.

Hi my local council. Notts seems to be having a bash at untaxed cars. Noticed the first one in my street today. Big sticker on the windscreen and a ruddy great DVLA clamp on a wheel. Driving round I see two more. How many are there in total I wonder and how have they been caught?
Good thing because no tax also means no insurance.
What will happen next. Do they get towed away or do they have to tax them to get the clamp off?

There are a lot of untaxed cars driving around particularly in more socially depressed areas.
Often these are “pool cars” used by the local scumbags.
Yep, towed away and crushed if payment not made.

Big purge round our way aswell .

A DVLA van with a number plate recognition camera on each corner is doing the rounds.

They cant get the big yellow boot off till the motor shows as taxed.
No tax and it's off to the crusher :laff:

A lot of the cars down my road are ones parked for free instead of paying at the local railway station.
Just imagine the shock after a hard days graft. Get off the train and bang. Long walk home or taxi.
Love to have seen his/her face.

Works the other way too though.

Untaxed un-MOT’d Skoda parked beside my property right now. About the fifth such vehicle in the last three years.

Reason is it would cost ~£150 to scrap (now that we don’t keep cars running with scrap yard parts) but only a £60 fine from the council when it gets towed away and crushed.

You’re going to see this a lot more until sense changes the laws.

Not quite with you there mr Hairy. Local scrappers will pay for any car. Or if you cant drive it there they will pick up for free.
You may be affluent and main agent for repairs but our local scrappers is busy with folk taking bits.
    Not all rich you know.

    Whoa, I’m way off rich.

The above was my supposition- why then are (non stolen) cars being dumped in my residential street (usually with a bit of MOT and tax left) until towed and crushed? Mystified if scrappiest still pay.

In the last few years a Saab, Toyota, two Fords and the current Skoda.

The Saab was a 95 Aero I would have happily fixed and run.

Perhaps that scrappers wont take stolen motors. You have to prove ownership.

    Not strictly true.
Local scrappers down here charge you to scrap a vehicle.
    Even a motorbike.
They charge you an admin fee for DVLA paperwork and take the car for free.

This has been going on, in and around South Lincolnshire for about a year now.
The cars are left for a few days, with the clamps on them.
Then if the money hasn't been paid, a big DVLA marked flatbed turns up and removes them.
    Sounds fair enough to me.

It gets awkward when someone can’t pay the road tax and wants to do the right thing and declare SORN....
But they live in an area where they don’t have access to off-road storage.

But in all fairness, with the DVLA monthly direct debit scheme there’s not much excuse for not affording road tax these days.

Plus I suppose the streets would become full of moss covered dead cars if they could be left on the road under sorn

Not when I scrapped two cars and a Suzuki GS 125 :D

They didn’t pay a penny but I had to pay DVLA disposal fee

There may well be other scrappies offering to buy dead vehicles but not Henry in Dobwalls

The problem with scrapage charges is that people won’t pay, they abandon the car, set it alight, time and expenses to the fire service, it then gets towed away free, then the council foot the bill for scrapage, so rather than the £150 it costs more like £1500.

Glad I don't live where you do. Here long as car is legal lots of scrappers advertising either free pick up or some will pay. There is even a national company on Google. Pick up from anywhere.
