1. The Forum Rules have undergone some minor changes and updates.  Please take the time to read them; it will only take a couple of minutes of your time. By doing so, you lessen the chance of incurring the wrath of the moderation team or making yourself look foolish to other members.

90% of users posting adverts in the Sales forums need to be reminded to read the rules as their posts are wrong.  This is unnecessarily time-consuming and will no longer happen - if your advert doesn't follow the Sales Rules it will be deleted and you'll have to start all over again.

  3. Dear members,

Our membership (like our country) consists of people from all walks of life; different in far more ways than can be listed here and each with a different view based on their experience of life - regardless of their colour, religion or cultural heritage. Every single person in the UK has been born of mixed race – we are a multi-coloured and multi-cultural country.

As many of you are aware there are a handful of individuals amongst this membership that persist in making provocative, inflammatory, racist and otherwise offensive comments. This has been happening across the forum to a certain degree but is most especially prevalent in the Adult section.

The moderation team has tried to stay on top of this, however unfortunately because of the ‘offensive’ nature of much of its content we don’t monitor the Adult section quite as much as perhaps we should. As a result much of this behaviour has gone unnoticed unless it has been reported to us. While the team always intended to take a "light touch" approach to the Adult section it would seem that some people aren’t quite adult enough to be left unmonitored after all.

This behaviour is, and always has been against Forum Rules as well as the specific stipulations of the Adults forum and it will no longer be tolerated. We feel it's time to draw a line in the sand and as such from this point onward offenders will receive an immediate and permanent ban from the forum.

In order for us to achieve our goal of restoring the forum to the friendly and tolerant place it once was, we ask that ALL members be mindful of the content they post and help us to stop unacceptable behaviour by using the 'Report' tool at the bottom of any offending post - the results of which can be seen only by Admin/Moderators.

You should all receive a copy of this message by PM.

  5. Postings on Politics, Religion & Controversial Off-Topic Material

The majority of users do not want to read about these subjects and people have left the forum as a result of it – this is after all an 'Airgun' Forum. It’s all very well to say they don’t have to read it if they don't want to, but as most of us use the ‘New Posts’ button there is no easy way to avoid it.

All AGF staff members are in favour of people being able to discuss what they want, but we have to draw the line somewhere if it is upsetting other users. We don’t want to read about these topics either.

IMPORTANT- The discussion of politics and religion is no longer allowed anywhere on the forum (including the Adult section).  The only exception is if it's airgun related - they must be put in the Airgun Related Politics section..

We will not tolerate bullying or personal attacks, racism or any other offensive 'isms'. we will remove these topics from the forum, we will not give you an area where you can abuse each other. We will not hesitate to ban offenders.

Littluns poorly in bed at the mo, so a trip out was off the cards. I'm up to date with my orders and even have a small stock on the shelf. The Mrs was watching some godawful Shi'ite on TV, so I was at a loss as to what I should do.....

RyRy's thread yesterday had reignited some of my former enthusiasm for the Little HW99, its been a while since I've played with it, so out it came. I went to my workshop and made a new tophat with a deeper shoulder than the last one. That upped the power to 11.6 over the chrono. Goody!:D As I turned around I hit the barrel on my lathe.

    Barrel. Lathe. Hmmmmmmm.

There are times when you should stop, think, maybe count to ten and see if an idea still seems so good. This was not one of those times!

Meet "Stumpy"! He now sports a much more pleasing 10.5" barrel and a delrin mod/cocking aid I made. (I only had white in the workshop and a roll of tape!)

Before anyone asks, I cannot and will not be making or selling Moderators, but having had a play today I would seriously urge anyone to maybe try one of Matts!

The end result is 2" shorter with a mod than it was this morning without. Its also quieter and running at a healthy 11.2fpe with negligible shot to shot variation, and a firing cycle so fast its almost like using my Fenman.

I love it all over again!!!:D

I shortened it by 5" in total. I cant remember if it was John Bowkett or Gerald Cardrew, but testing showed that 7" was the minimum required for accuracy and anything over that is just changing power/firing cycle. My 7" barrel Fenman hits a 12mm spinner all day long @50yards. That's fine for a ultra fast rammer, but a springer would suffer with that little length, so I use 10.5" as a standard.

Are you ever thinking of maybe doing your own modded / tuned springers ?

It's interesting this barrel length / accuracy relationship, I have always understood that the longer the barrel the better the accuracy especially at longer ranges, is this wrong? Maybe it applies to powder burners more than air weapons? I did read about an FAC rifle some time ago that was pushing 40 odd pounds using "air bullets" and it was much more accurate over 100 yards, with a 19 inch barrel, than it was with the 12 inch it had before. Is it a sub 12 pounds thing? Waisted pellets do weird stuff if you push 'em to super sonic, well at least they do as drop out of super sonic flight.

And to add to this, would Black delrin barrel sleeves be possible ?

Yes, I'm gonna try making some this week. The limiting factor is drill bit length, but I've gotta try.......

Your best bet is to keep an eye out for a cheap secondhand one and send it to me for tuning, or buy one of my kits for £19.99 and I'll do everything I can to help you do it yourself!;)

It's twist rates that matter the most I think...if a short barrel has say 5 twists, and a long barrel has 5 twists..they should both be on par with eachother.

I've seen short barrels like those on BSA's just as good as the barrels on much longer guns

Logic would dictate that, but apparently its bunkum. In pcp and co2 extra performance can be gained from a longer barrel, but with a springer it can actually just slow the pellet down past a certain point. I will do some accuracy testing, but as Sandwell already shorten this barrel for the Imp I reckon its a goodun.

Quite reverse could be said with a longer barrel uhave more time or user error befor the pellet leaves the barrel thus making it less accurate

Hmmmmm, interesting. It would be good to test two identical rifles, (is there such a thing?).......One with a long barrel and one with a short barrel, and test them out over various ranges. I see what you are saying about barrel friction, and that seems to make sense.

Just think you could charge an extra £200 and call it an Imp, oh wait, hasn't someone else done that?
