1. The Forum Rules have undergone some minor changes and updates.  Please take the time to read them; it will only take a couple of minutes of your time. By doing so, you lessen the chance of incurring the wrath of the moderation team or making yourself look foolish to other members.

90% of users posting adverts in the Sales forums need to be reminded to read the rules as their posts are wrong.  This is unnecessarily time-consuming and will no longer happen - if your advert doesn't follow the Sales Rules it will be deleted and you'll have to start all over again.

  3. Dear members,

Our membership (like our country) consists of people from all walks of life; different in far more ways than can be listed here and each with a different view based on their experience of life - regardless of their colour, religion or cultural heritage. Every single person in the UK has been born of mixed race – we are a multi-coloured and multi-cultural country.

As many of you are aware there are a handful of individuals amongst this membership that persist in making provocative, inflammatory, racist and otherwise offensive comments. This has been happening across the forum to a certain degree but is most especially prevalent in the Adult section.

The moderation team has tried to stay on top of this, however unfortunately because of the ‘offensive’ nature of much of its content we don’t monitor the Adult section quite as much as perhaps we should. As a result much of this behaviour has gone unnoticed unless it has been reported to us. While the team always intended to take a "light touch" approach to the Adult section it would seem that some people aren’t quite adult enough to be left unmonitored after all.

This behaviour is, and always has been against Forum Rules as well as the specific stipulations of the Adults forum and it will no longer be tolerated. We feel it's time to draw a line in the sand and as such from this point onward offenders will receive an immediate and permanent ban from the forum.

In order for us to achieve our goal of restoring the forum to the friendly and tolerant place it once was, we ask that ALL members be mindful of the content they post and help us to stop unacceptable behaviour by using the 'Report' tool at the bottom of any offending post - the results of which can be seen only by Admin/Moderators.

You should all receive a copy of this message by PM.

  5. Postings on Politics, Religion & Controversial Off-Topic Material

The majority of users do not want to read about these subjects and people have left the forum as a result of it – this is after all an 'Airgun' Forum. It’s all very well to say they don’t have to read it if they don't want to, but as most of us use the ‘New Posts’ button there is no easy way to avoid it.

All AGF staff members are in favour of people being able to discuss what they want, but we have to draw the line somewhere if it is upsetting other users. We don’t want to read about these topics either.

IMPORTANT- The discussion of politics and religion is no longer allowed anywhere on the forum (including the Adult section).  The only exception is if it's airgun related - they must be put in the Airgun Related Politics section..

We will not tolerate bullying or personal attacks, racism or any other offensive 'isms'. we will remove these topics from the forum, we will not give you an area where you can abuse each other. We will not hesitate to ban offenders.

Testing the Water

After many years of fun plinking with my son with a BSA Meteor in the back garden I recently took the plunge and bought a PCP.

But I'm rapidly coming to the conclusion that this was just one hobby too far. By garden is too small to challenge it's accuracy. So I'm wrestling with the idea of selling up and just sticking to the Meteor. I'm not fully convinced so I'm just testing the water to see whether my kit would be of interest.

It's a slightly unusual gun (which is what attracted me) but I've no idea whether this will be a pro or a con when it comes to selling.

    So details

BSA Scorpion, 0.177, single shot. Custom made as follows. Walnut stock with Rosewood end. 19" match barrel with extended air cylinder to match (90 shots per fill). Blue-printed by John Bowkett. Fantastic condition.

Hawke Varmint II 4-14x44 scope and mounts. Very good condition. There are some scratches in the paint under the mount, but this is cosmetic - no tube damage.

    Weihrauch silencer.

Faber 3L, 300 Bar tank, guage and micro-bore hose (and quick-fill adaptor for Scorpion) - test not required until May 2012. Excellent condition.

Would be thinking around £500 for the lot.

    Pictures to follow.

As I said not 100% made up my mind, I really like the gun, I've just really got nowhere to conveniently use it.

But would be interested in what you think.

    Cheers,

    Nigel

Why not try to find somewhere to use it?
Where are you, someone on here may be able to take you out if they're local to you

I've joined the local club but I realise that club shooting isn't what I want to do. I like the idea of HFT but find it difficult to fit in with the schedule.

I just to be able to decide that I've got a couple of hours to spare let's go plinking with my son.

Shooting in my garden is no challenge - aim, fire, hit - get more enjoyment with the Meteor in the garden as it's more of a challenge.

    Cheers,

    Nigel

Unfortunately the only places I go here in East Sussex are with someone else's permission, so it's not easy to take others along with me, if you see what I mean, otherwise I'd say let's meet somewhere
Keep up with the garden plinking; who knows, someone may ask you to go with them one day soon, and with the PCP you'll be ready for anything.
I've been thinking about HFT too. I'll have to look into it further and see what's available around here

HFT isn't a problem for me - there is a good club on my doorstep - I just find it difficult to fit in with the schedules.

    Cheers,

That's a sweet gun you've got there Nigel. I'd have thought you'd get £500 quite easily. I agree though a PCP aint much fun for plinking. Have you got any land nearby that you could try and get permission to shoot on - might be easier than trying to get hunting permission..? I take it you're don't want to hunt with it?

Anyway good luck with whatever you decide:up:

Possibly interested in gun only dependant on price if you'll split.

It's definitely not a standard finish - beech stock with coloured varnish.

Mine is just wood coloured with a very light clear varish (i.e. colouring is from the wood rather than stain). It also has a darker rosewood cap at the business end.

The pictures do make it look more orange than it is in real life. This is probably because I took the pictures in the evening under tungston lighting and flash which has probably messed up the white balance.

I shall try some more pictures tomorrow in daylight if I get chance - weekend at the latest. They should come out more natural and accurate.

    Cheers,

    Nigel

If so what price please for gun only?

Okay, I haven't decided whether to sell or not yet (hence the testing the water thread).

I'm inclined to think I won't use the gun enough to justify owning it - I've barely used it since I bought it.

On the other hand I have no desperate need for the money so I may just keep it for a year to see how it goes.

If selling I would prefer to sell complete but could be convinced to split.

Sales would have to be conducted face-to-face, not just because of the hassle\security of posting but mostly because I'm totally new to this and I would be more comfortable if the seller was able to try the gun out before purchase. To me it's a fantastic gun but that's based on my experience of one gun shooting at 20yds!

So if I were to put a price on the gun alone I'd say £350.

    Cheers,

    Nigel
