1. The Forum Rules have undergone some minor changes and updates.  Please take the time to read them; it will only take a couple of minutes of your time. By doing so, you lessen the chance of incurring the wrath of the moderation team or making yourself look foolish to other members.

90% of users posting adverts in the Sales forums need to be reminded to read the rules as their posts are wrong.  This is unnecessarily time-consuming and will no longer happen - if your advert doesn't follow the Sales Rules it will be deleted and you'll have to start all over again.

  3. Dear members,

Our membership (like our country) consists of people from all walks of life; different in far more ways than can be listed here and each with a different view based on their experience of life - regardless of their colour, religion or cultural heritage. Every single person in the UK has been born of mixed race – we are a multi-coloured and multi-cultural country.

As many of you are aware there are a handful of individuals amongst this membership that persist in making provocative, inflammatory, racist and otherwise offensive comments. This has been happening across the forum to a certain degree but is most especially prevalent in the Adult section.

The moderation team has tried to stay on top of this, however unfortunately because of the ‘offensive’ nature of much of its content we don’t monitor the Adult section quite as much as perhaps we should. As a result much of this behaviour has gone unnoticed unless it has been reported to us. While the team always intended to take a "light touch" approach to the Adult section it would seem that some people aren’t quite adult enough to be left unmonitored after all.

This behaviour is, and always has been against Forum Rules as well as the specific stipulations of the Adults forum and it will no longer be tolerated. We feel it's time to draw a line in the sand and as such from this point onward offenders will receive an immediate and permanent ban from the forum.

In order for us to achieve our goal of restoring the forum to the friendly and tolerant place it once was, we ask that ALL members be mindful of the content they post and help us to stop unacceptable behaviour by using the 'Report' tool at the bottom of any offending post - the results of which can be seen only by Admin/Moderators.

  5. Postings on Politics, Religion & Controversial Off-Topic Material

The majority of users do not want to read about these subjects and people have left the forum as a result of it – this is after all an 'Airgun' Forum. It’s all very well to say they don’t have to read it if they don't want to, but as most of us use the ‘New Posts’ button there is no easy way to avoid it.

All AGF staff members are in favour of people being able to discuss what they want, but we have to draw the line somewhere if it is upsetting other users. We don’t want to read about these topics either.

IMPORTANT- The discussion of politics and religion is no longer allowed anywhere on the forum (including the Adult section).  The only exception is if it's airgun related - they must be put in the Airgun Related Politics section..

We will not tolerate bullying or personal attacks, racism or any other offensive 'isms'. we will remove these topics from the forum, we will not give you an area where you can abuse each other. We will not hesitate to ban offenders.

an excellent review, if there was a smaller bore scope in the pipeline I think should be capable of the .17 bore as there must be a huge market worldwide for shooters of the very popular HMR, as there is much deliberation on the merits or not of the various cleaning regimes on barrel longevity

Just a pic of the inside of a sizing die using my el cheapo bore scope to show a blemish that was causing deformed cases, there is no comparison with the stuff you have there my friend...........

It's all in the OP ;)

    What you got? :p

Thanks and yes; I mentioned this to the suppliers as it's potentially a large untapped market. I hear .17s can be "finnicky" with cleaning so it'd certainly be good to be able to investigate this issue from the inside!

So, a few more thoughts FWIW.

    The Bore scope

I'm going to apply a layer of masking tape to the OD of the camera and mirror housing in an effort to better centre it in the bore; to hopefully make it a bit easier to manipulate and give a more consistent focal distance.

I also found that if using the manual exposure adjustment in the software the increments are fairly coarse so the external LED dimmer switch can be handy in adjusting the exposure more precisely between these settings.

EDIT: It would be nice if the flat front of the mirror assy had a rad / chamfer / point / hemispheric shape to reduce the chance of it hanging up on geometric changes; such as the chamber of a rifle or the baffles inside a mod if someone decided to stuff it through one of them.

    The Air Arms Barrel

It's interesting to note the patterns of fouling in the barrel; with lead appearing in rough, crystalline-like deposits at the root of the corner between the lands and grooves, as well as in a more smeared and regular form in the very middle of the top of some of the rifling lands. This is somewhat unsurprising as these areas (especially the corners) are likely to remain "unswept" by the pellet, or in the case of the top of the land is an area of reduced contact with the pellet due to the way the land deforms the skirt.

Finally lead also appears to accumulate in clumps at the crown; I think because it gets shaved by burrs and imperfections from the crowning process which apparently occur mostly at the root corner between land and groove. These deposits grow outwards over the crown as more and more lead is stripped from successive pellets. It doesn't seem unreasonable to assume that properly lapping the crown could completely remove fouling in this area..

I do wonder what specific effect each of these types of fouling has on accuracy...

A small update to confirm that after a bit of chasing Teslong have remained true to their word and refunded the cost of the unit in return for my review as promised.

I took the opportunity in my last email to them to reinforce the fact that there's a massive gap in the market for a .17" calibre-friendly bore scope and hopefully they'll take advantage of this situation and bring one to market - I'd definitely buy one in a heartbeat off the back of my experiences with this model :)

Good review mike, Next time I go for a colonoscopy I’ll ask what camera he uses because believe me what ever they use in my butt a 177 would be a piece of pi$$:facepalm::D

Thanks - unfortunately though it's not really suitable for our application as the focal length is too long (apparently around 1.2-2.4" / 30-60mm) and there's no mirror attachment for viewing the side of the bore.

I didn't know they did one this small for any application though; so hopefully the fact that this already exists might make it more likely that they'll release a rifle-friendly one based on their existing tech :)

Perhaps some images of me in various exotic locations, full of joy and carefree abandon as I hurl various sub-par BSA wares off bridges into flawless crystal blue waters beneath would be more appropriate for our membership

However, back in the real world shots of me slumped and drooling on the keyboard would be more like it :p
