1. The Forum Rules have undergone some minor changes and updates.  Please take the time to read them; it will only take a couple of minutes of your time. By doing so, you lessen the chance of incurring the wrath of the moderation team or making yourself look foolish to other members.

90% of users posting adverts in the Sales forums need to be reminded to read the rules as their posts are wrong.  This is unnecessarily time-consuming and will no longer happen - if your advert doesn't follow the Sales Rules it will be deleted and you'll have to start all over again.

  3. Dear members,

Our membership (like our country) consists of people from all walks of life; different in far more ways than can be listed here and each with a different view based on their experience of life - regardless of their colour, religion or cultural heritage. Every single person in the UK has been born of mixed race – we are a multi-coloured and multi-cultural country.

As many of you are aware there are a handful of individuals amongst this membership that persist in making provocative, inflammatory, racist and otherwise offensive comments. This has been happening across the forum to a certain degree but is most especially prevalent in the Adult section.

The moderation team has tried to stay on top of this, however unfortunately because of the ‘offensive’ nature of much of its content we don’t monitor the Adult section quite as much as perhaps we should. As a result much of this behaviour has gone unnoticed unless it has been reported to us. While the team always intended to take a "light touch" approach to the Adult section it would seem that some people aren’t quite adult enough to be left unmonitored after all.

This behaviour is, and always has been against Forum Rules as well as the specific stipulations of the Adults forum and it will no longer be tolerated. We feel it's time to draw a line in the sand and as such from this point onward offenders will receive an immediate and permanent ban from the forum.

In order for us to achieve our goal of restoring the forum to the friendly and tolerant place it once was, we ask that ALL members be mindful of the content they post and help us to stop unacceptable behaviour by using the 'Report' tool at the bottom of any offending post - the results of which can be seen only by Admin/Moderators.

You should all receive a copy of this message by PM.

I really like going out somenights with no expectation, just rifle pellets and a flask of coffee.

So that's what I did tonight heading nowhere imparticular, had a drive around my main shoot nothing doing there are lots of acres of cropped fields all baled up but its hard to target pigeons when they have so much choice.

So I called in at the dairy farm as there is always a few ferals to shoot at and I haven't been for a good few months, but bumping into one of the brothers who runs the farm, he uncharacteristically approached me with intent, I thought whats up with him?

Anyway he told me they have a field of wheat that is laid due to the rainfall and wind that has a lot of woodies on, so unprepared really I only went down on a recce with intention of going back tomorrow maybe with the gear.

So he told me to drive up this dirt track in the motor and have a look so I agreed.

Im always exited about looking at fields I haven't shot before and I like to suss them out, this was the first view I got [IMG] don't know if you can make it out but the large damaged patches in the middle were grey with woodies they were everywhere so I had ten mins watching them sat in the car and managed to snipe one that landed in the patch [IMG]

Anyway I decided to walk around the field to what looked like a good sitty tree, but didn't expect much with no hide and one dead bird as a decoy, so I got to the tree and there was a good flightline going over it, placed the woodie out and backed myself into a hedge snapped some branches off and stuck them in front of me like a blind.[IMG]

I had not been there a minute and two settled in the tips, so carefully aimed for ones head and crack down he tumbed and hit the floor doing the carachteristic backward flips that only a good headshot makes them do[IMG]

It was like that an hour or so, until the sun dropped I kept bobbing out and placing the dead on the wheat like so[IMG]

Anyway they just kept coming, I really enjoyed the hour and a half I had in fact these are the nights I remember come a few more months and the dark nights arrive[IMG][IMG][IMG]

As the sun went down I was just wondering weather to take the Rapid tomorrow as Im expecting a good day, or should I take the shotgun I cant make up my mind, theres a bridleway at one of the field see, the shotgun wont half echo across the valley as its quite high up...ummm don't know yet..but from what I saw a hell of a lot to go at:up:

Why not stick with the air rifle the fun will last longer and in my personal opinion be more enjoyable plus a good reason to get out even more. Either way enjoy.

Thanks again guys I think you have swayed me with the Rapid, just topped its bottle up and its got its nice new lighstream onboard, but If I get up tomorrow and its wanging it down, I think Ill take old max, (maxus) can take it better with the synthetic stock, and hopefully if it is raining there wont be many horses on the bridleway;)

Given the choice I will have a day with the airgun as its always a nice challenge, I reckon there is a good day to be had with whatever, I just cant carry both guns unfortunately!:D:up:

hello, that is a nice perm, as to what to shoot with as harry said take both, years ago i use to do a lot of pigeon shooting with the 12 bore, starting with S/B then S/S then my fav a lanber O/U, from what you describe the pigeons where storming to feed and i often had that on flattened corn or barley or in winter the greens and even though the noise of a shotgun sometimes it made no difference and they just kept feeding and coming in on the flight path, a windy day even better, as for writing for a shooting mag remember the saying if you dont try!!!!!!!. i started shooting in the early 60s (shotgun) buying the shooting times and knew a chap who sent in and had printed his pieces including photos, old 35mm film camera. and not just on shoots but other country aspects. ??

Sorry lads, what it is my pics from the phone are uploaded to photobucket, then I paste them on here, but there is a monthly gig limit and the more views they get the faster the gig disappears, only found out myself the other day.

Sods law its obviously run out tonight:mad: I could extend the limit but I have to pay a fee then, so It will have to just go until the end of the month and It will open up the pictures again, so Ill bump the old threads up so you can view them, I would happen on my better nights! oh well.

Ill take some pics tomorrow and write up about it at the end of the month, should be a good one :up:

With the added bonus that if you write for a magazine every rifle you pick up will be perfect. :):):):):):)
Go for it!! Your posts on here are always interesting and well written. I am sure your magazine articles would be a good read.
    Cheers Andy

Not so sure about the magazines either they will give you a 5hit gun to test you will shoot them with your rapid or regal and tell everyone you shot them all with your Chinese import that you will be forced to review. Great achievement on getting all those pigeons from a recce just shows you don't need hides and shed loads of decoys.

Another great read mate. I don't know if this will help but Ian Barnett has a book called " Hobby Writing - How to make your Play,Pay ". I've never read it but it may be of some help. You can purchase it on Amazon. Atb

I don't have one mate no, whats the difference from using the Phone?

I had an excellent night tonight again this time with the Rapid on the same fields, Im going to write up and send some pics to the airgun magazine and see if they reply, I may need some education on the matter, and my constant spell checks and edits prove Im not really a writer but I can shoot pigeon and take pictures if that's any good:D Ill try and muddle through but have lots of material saved to my phone to write enough hunting stories for the next 12 months:up:
