1. The Forum Rules have undergone some minor changes and updates.  Please take the time to read them; it will only take a couple of minutes of your time. By doing so, you lessen the chance of incurring the wrath of the moderation team or making yourself look foolish to other members.

90% of users posting adverts in the Sales forums need to be reminded to read the rules as their posts are wrong.  This is unnecessarily time-consuming and will no longer happen - if your advert doesn't follow the Sales Rules it will be deleted and you'll have to start all over again.

  3. Dear members,

Our membership (like our country) consists of people from all walks of life; different in far more ways than can be listed here and each with a different view based on their experience of life - regardless of their colour, religion or cultural heritage. Every single person in the UK has been born of mixed race – we are a multi-coloured and multi-cultural country.

As many of you are aware there are a handful of individuals amongst this membership that persist in making provocative, inflammatory, racist and otherwise offensive comments. This has been happening across the forum to a certain degree but is most especially prevalent in the Adult section.

The moderation team has tried to stay on top of this, however unfortunately because of the ‘offensive’ nature of much of its content we don’t monitor the Adult section quite as much as perhaps we should. As a result much of this behaviour has gone unnoticed unless it has been reported to us. While the team always intended to take a "light touch" approach to the Adult section it would seem that some people aren’t quite adult enough to be left unmonitored after all.

This behaviour is, and always has been against Forum Rules as well as the specific stipulations of the Adults forum and it will no longer be tolerated. We feel it's time to draw a line in the sand and as such from this point onward offenders will receive an immediate and permanent ban from the forum.

In order for us to achieve our goal of restoring the forum to the friendly and tolerant place it once was, we ask that ALL members be mindful of the content they post and help us to stop unacceptable behaviour by using the 'Report' tool at the bottom of any offending post - the results of which can be seen only by Admin/Moderators.

You should all receive a copy of this message by PM.

  5. Postings on Politics, Religion & Controversial Off-Topic Material

The majority of users do not want to read about these subjects and people have left the forum as a result of it – this is after all an 'Airgun' Forum. It’s all very well to say they don’t have to read it if they don't want to, but as most of us use the ‘New Posts’ button there is no easy way to avoid it.

All AGF staff members are in favour of people being able to discuss what they want, but we have to draw the line somewhere if it is upsetting other users. We don’t want to read about these topics either.

IMPORTANT- The discussion of politics and religion is no longer allowed anywhere on the forum (including the Adult section).  The only exception is if it's airgun related - they must be put in the Airgun Related Politics section..

We will not tolerate bullying or personal attacks, racism or any other offensive 'isms'. we will remove these topics from the forum, we will not give you an area where you can abuse each other. We will not hesitate to ban offenders.

To highlight the worst that can happen, I know of a teenage kid locally who shot and killed himself with a sub-12ftlb rifle.

A sad and sobering reminder that safety should be at the forefront of everyone's minds at all times

As kids in the late 1940s we had an "airgun fight" YES WE USED TO DO THIS! My mate had a pellet hit him in the nose. Pellet travelled up his face bones and ended up in his eye. Blinded him in that eye.

i tattoo a guy that allowed his friends to shoot him at close range with a .22 webley (not sure which model) , he said they aimed for his arse cheek, but one hit him in the fat of the cheek and the other just high of the tailbone, which travveled down towards his butt hole, few x rays later and the hospital have left them in stating that the one in the fat is pretty stable and can be removed but the other one is very close to his butt hole and could cause damage if removed and may migrate causing damage if the pellet is sharp and cuts him internally, he showed me x rays and you can also feel the first pellet just under the surface, next time hes in for a tattoo ill ask for him to send me the x-rays as he had them on his phone, silly boy and i asked him why he let them shoot him twice and he said both times he was unaware they had gone in him...

I used to shoot with two guys when I was at ripon. One of them went off round the field with his shot gun, the other one went the other way with his air rifle. The air rifle guy saw a rabbit and took the shot. The shot missed and hit a stone, then ricocheted across the field and struck the shotgunner in the side/back. The total distance was around 80/90yards from memory, it left an almighty bruise around the size of a golf ball. It felt like a lump, similar to that of a paintball strike.

I was shot in the wrist when I was 14, it severed an artery and I had to have the pellet surgically removed. The guys that did the deed were known to me and were arrested and convicted.

My father in law to be was telling me how they used to walk around with airguns years ago and now batted an eyelid. He said they where playing football once and someone scored against on of his mates. So his mate picked up one of the air rifles that were behind the goal and shot the goal scorer. Madness!

I have a little round scar just above my right eye from where my stepbrother shot me with a Webley Vulcan .22 in 1966 I can't forget as we won the World Cup the same year. He was about fifty yards away from me, and yes he was aiming at me. I just heard a hissing noise and the next thing I knew I was on my back with a .22 pellet lodged in my forehead! I remember my dad breaking the rifle over the garden wall. Happy Daze. atb Paul.

We were playing tag in a barn as kids one of the older lads had a gatgun, shot my mate in the cheek at about 2feet away, he caught the pellet in his mouth, we crapped ourselves and ran a mile, his mum heard about it and the hiding the shooters father gave him when he heard definitely hurt more than the lad that got shot. He had a scar... I'd imagine a 12ftlb rifle would go through a few cheeks!

I have read this thread with................well lets just say a certain amount of incredibility, but it isn't very hard for me to believe that someone could be killed if struck in a vulnerable part of their anatomy by an air gun pellet. Some air guns, even sub 12 fpe versions are capable of shooting a 5 grn pellet at supersonic speeds........

Have a squint at this, it may help focus the mind somewhat? http://jcp.bmj.com/content/51/7/525.full.pdf

Now I happen to believe that the vast majority of us air gun shooters, well all shooters of whatever flavour, are very responsible in our attitudes to our shooting and that we as a matter of course take safety, our own as well as others very seriously. Personally I hope that this thread, if it does anything at all, helps remind all of us, that even though our guns are not licensed, they are long way from being toys.

Sorry, I realise that I might be coming across as a bit preachy, that isn't my intention, but I am sure we are all aware that the anti brigade are forever watchful, and just waiting for an excuse to come down on us like a ton of bricks, we must not give them the ammunition to do so.

Sorry, I'll get off me soapbox now............

One of my older brothers shot me with our dad's .177 about 40 years ago Went straight through brand new pair of Levis and stuck in my thigh. First thing he said was don't tell dad. I didn't tell dad until his last day on this earth 2 years ago, he just smiled....

When we were kids we used to play with dad's air rifle. He hid the pellets so we used fishing floats. I still have the scar in my knee ...

I shot my mates and they shot me with GAT guns. Just a bit of idiocy at the local woods, fortunately nobody got much more than bruises.

PS: I've taken a few ricochets from both my Hastan Mod 60 S, HW100 and TX200 due to poor back-stop arrangements in the back garden. I recommend everyone who plinks in their back garden takes the time and effort to make better, slightly more than half @rsed attempts to provide good back-stops for themselves.

I found, even though a lot of momentum has probably been taken out of the pellets flight, a ricochet still hurts like a b@st@rd when it hits you in the m00b.:D
