1. The Forum Rules have undergone some minor changes and updates.  Please take the time to read them; it will only take a couple of minutes of your time. By doing so, you lessen the chance of incurring the wrath of the moderation team or making yourself look foolish to other members.

90% of users posting adverts in the Sales forums need to be reminded to read the rules as their posts are wrong.  This is unnecessarily time-consuming and will no longer happen - if your advert doesn't follow the Sales Rules it will be deleted and you'll have to start all over again.

  3. Dear members,

Our membership (like our country) consists of people from all walks of life; different in far more ways than can be listed here and each with a different view based on their experience of life - regardless of their colour, religion or cultural heritage. Every single person in the UK has been born of mixed race – we are a multi-coloured and multi-cultural country.

As many of you are aware there are a handful of individuals amongst this membership that persist in making provocative, inflammatory, racist and otherwise offensive comments. This has been happening across the forum to a certain degree but is most especially prevalent in the Adult section.

The moderation team has tried to stay on top of this, however unfortunately because of the ‘offensive’ nature of much of its content we don’t monitor the Adult section quite as much as perhaps we should. As a result much of this behaviour has gone unnoticed unless it has been reported to us. While the team always intended to take a "light touch" approach to the Adult section it would seem that some people aren’t quite adult enough to be left unmonitored after all.

This behaviour is, and always has been against Forum Rules as well as the specific stipulations of the Adults forum and it will no longer be tolerated. We feel it's time to draw a line in the sand and as such from this point onward offenders will receive an immediate and permanent ban from the forum.

In order for us to achieve our goal of restoring the forum to the friendly and tolerant place it once was, we ask that ALL members be mindful of the content they post and help us to stop unacceptable behaviour by using the 'Report' tool at the bottom of any offending post - the results of which can be seen only by Admin/Moderators.

You should all receive a copy of this message by PM.

  5. Postings on Politics, Religion & Controversial Off-Topic Material

The majority of users do not want to read about these subjects and people have left the forum as a result of it – this is after all an 'Airgun' Forum. It’s all very well to say they don’t have to read it if they don't want to, but as most of us use the ‘New Posts’ button there is no easy way to avoid it.

All AGF staff members are in favour of people being able to discuss what they want, but we have to draw the line somewhere if it is upsetting other users. We don’t want to read about these topics either.

IMPORTANT- The discussion of politics and religion is no longer allowed anywhere on the forum (including the Adult section).  The only exception is if it's airgun related - they must be put in the Airgun Related Politics section..

We will not tolerate bullying or personal attacks, racism or any other offensive 'isms'. we will remove these topics from the forum, we will not give you an area where you can abuse each other. We will not hesitate to ban offenders.

How is the opinion (that I have seen many times and recently had myself) where a member had asked after a specific rifle and someone has one that isn’t up for sale but they aren’t using? I’ve had this recently as I hadn’t really considered selling the rifle but a “wanted” post came up and I thought “why not, it’s not getting used enough”. There isn’t any exclusion intended or rule breaking I’ve offered a specific rifle that I have after a post went up. Is that wrong?

I'm fairly new and advertised my pro elite on here for a couple of days, as I thought I'd get it in front of you guys first, I've since taken it off and put it on freeads not because I'm dodgy or a scam artist but I thought it may get it in front of a wider audience.
I've posted a few times on here and have found it yo be a great forum for newbies and experienced shooters alike, it's a shame some take advantage.

in a distant galaxy, far far away ....... actually
If anyone tried to buy something from me, other than through the relevant sales thread, I would discount them from the sale and report them. As members, it's partly up to us to police our own threads, and report any inappropriate actions as required. If I came across any dodgy folk/threads/dealings etc, I would name and shame, in order to give the good guys the heads up. There's a couple of dodgy characters on here who i keep an eye out for ...
Lastly, I don't believe it's good practice to engage in sales talk with a new member who's first post is a sales thread - let the newbies establish themselves on the forum before trusting them enough to buy from. If you get abuse from anyone, newbie or seasoned member, report them and then name and shame them ....

Withdrew the ads I had out elsewhere before I put items for sale on here, and will do the same on here if they don’t sell. Have a couple of pistols up for sale elsewhere but again if they don’t go, will withdraw those ads before advertising here. Playing by the rules is part of being in a community

We go to great lengths to try and protect you all from being scammed, but you must look out for yourselves - remember Caveat emptor.

You must remember that this forum is really no more than the equivalent of a notice board at the Post Office; it simply allows you to make contact with one another. Neither the forum or its staff have any control over what you do and even less power to sort any problems out that you make for yourself by not taking care during a purchase or sale.

We're all different and some will take more risks than others, but I would recommend you do the following at the very least:
    • If buying from someone with a low post-count or no feedback, be sure to buy or sell face-to-face or set yourself a maximum amount that you're prepared to risk losing.
    • Do some simple security checks; i.e. be sure they are who they say they are by asking for proof of ID and address, like a driving licence or utility bill.
    • Insure your goods fully against loss and insist on tracked/recorded delivery (no good unless you've done some security checks first).
    • For a large 'distance' purchase, consider using an escrow service.
Ripping someone off on a forum such as this is probably one of the easiest ways to scam somebody, so don't be blasé about security and risk.

Lastly (and to get back on topic), if someone is breaking the rules we can do nothing about it unless you tell us, so report them. Rest assured if they don't comply after being warned, they will be barred from the Sales sections and possibly the forum.
