1. The Forum Rules have undergone some minor changes and updates.  Please take the time to read them; it will only take a couple of minutes of your time. By doing so, you lessen the chance of incurring the wrath of the moderation team or making yourself look foolish to other members.

90% of users posting adverts in the Sales forums need to be reminded to read the rules as their posts are wrong.  This is unnecessarily time-consuming and will no longer happen - if your advert doesn't follow the Sales Rules it will be deleted and you'll have to start all over again.

  3. Dear members,

Our membership (like our country) consists of people from all walks of life; different in far more ways than can be listed here and each with a different view based on their experience of life - regardless of their colour, religion or cultural heritage. Every single person in the UK has been born of mixed race – we are a multi-coloured and multi-cultural country.

As many of you are aware there are a handful of individuals amongst this membership that persist in making provocative, inflammatory, racist and otherwise offensive comments. This has been happening across the forum to a certain degree but is most especially prevalent in the Adult section.

The moderation team has tried to stay on top of this, however unfortunately because of the ‘offensive’ nature of much of its content we don’t monitor the Adult section quite as much as perhaps we should. As a result much of this behaviour has gone unnoticed unless it has been reported to us. While the team always intended to take a "light touch" approach to the Adult section it would seem that some people aren’t quite adult enough to be left unmonitored after all.

This behaviour is, and always has been against Forum Rules as well as the specific stipulations of the Adults forum and it will no longer be tolerated. We feel it's time to draw a line in the sand and as such from this point onward offenders will receive an immediate and permanent ban from the forum.

In order for us to achieve our goal of restoring the forum to the friendly and tolerant place it once was, we ask that ALL members be mindful of the content they post and help us to stop unacceptable behaviour by using the 'Report' tool at the bottom of any offending post - the results of which can be seen only by Admin/Moderators.

You should all receive a copy of this message by PM.

  5. Postings on Politics, Religion & Controversial Off-Topic Material

The majority of users do not want to read about these subjects and people have left the forum as a result of it – this is after all an 'Airgun' Forum. It’s all very well to say they don’t have to read it if they don't want to, but as most of us use the ‘New Posts’ button there is no easy way to avoid it.

All AGF staff members are in favour of people being able to discuss what they want, but we have to draw the line somewhere if it is upsetting other users. We don’t want to read about these topics either.

IMPORTANT- The discussion of politics and religion is no longer allowed anywhere on the forum (including the Adult section).  The only exception is if it's airgun related - they must be put in the Airgun Related Politics section..

We will not tolerate bullying or personal attacks, racism or any other offensive 'isms'. we will remove these topics from the forum, we will not give you an area where you can abuse each other. We will not hesitate to ban offenders.

    Hi Folks.

I'm thinking of trying some 25 metre benchrest. Any suggestions for a suitable scope?

@80yarder I went from a Hawke Vantage 6-24x50 to this https://sureshot-airguns.co.uk/product/vt-t-4-5-18x44-ffp/ and couldn't be happier (well, read on)....bench rest only.

I do have one question though (I'm not hijacking your thread m8 it's pertinent) but how on Earth do folks manage on 16x or even lower??? That scope above (18x) is about my
absolute limit on terms of magnification....anything lower and I'd struggle massively!!!

I'm even mulling over selling it (no doubt at a loss I know) and going higher....24x plus. The max distance I ever shoot is around 60 yards too (and only rarely at that).

I use a hawke sidewinder 4-16 x50 for my bench rest shooting at all ranges 10m-50m

Higher mag is awful because the tiniest twitch or heartbeat is massively magnified and makes for poor grouping.

    I don’t go above x10 usually

I can see a x24 or x32 being great for centrefire shooting past 200 yards... but sub 12 air rifles?
    Nope.

I find it useful on higher mag to see my heart beat in the scope, I can then control my trigger release accordingly:thumb:

Yup....been working on that for a long time! (finally managed to teach myself to let the shot go between heartbeats....not always mind you)

I stay on 10X for the same reason. I used to shoot on 16X but the pulse effect i found very off putting

I use a 6-24x56 as my go to bench rest scope and it's sweet out to 60 yds. Optisan EVX, best scopes for the money!!! Look at Optics Warehouse, they've always got deals on. I have three and never paid full price!

As far as heartbeat, I've learnt to hold the stock so lightly that it has no effect! That or I'm dead and didn't realise!

Hawke Sidewinder 4-16x50 (8 mag at 50 yards).... Perfect.

    Or

Nikko Sterling Diamond 4-16x56 (Same 8 mag at 50 yards).... Just as good.

Mind you..... I must say, the Nikko Sterling has better eye relief ( less fussy).

Whatever you purchase, there aren't many bad scopes out there. Just try as many as you can prior to a final purchase. it really is very personal to what might suit!!

I use the full 30x ..to make it more challenging up to 60yds and my benchrest is a straw bale.
Then do the final targets at 10x ..by then I have all the breathing, fidgeting and release to perfection for some teeny tiny groups.
Then when I shoot in the field after a target session it makes it all so easy at 10x to nobble anything.
    FFP scope btw.

I do quite a lot of 100 meter target (Fac) never use full mag... Can't see the point?

Why are you using 30 mag at 60 yards. If sub 12 ft/lbs I'm assuming your using hold over?

    Somewhat confused.

I use a Falcon x35 fixed mag. You can see my pulse but gentle hold and keeping calm helps. I use this on my Anshutz Match 54 but did use it on my Hamerli AR20FT, it was very good.

I use a Falcon T35 fixed mag. Our club's best BR shot uses a Sightron 36x. The next two guys shoot on 24x and 18x. Maybe we're doing it wrong, we're not that successful as a team at the moment.:oops:

I never use more than x10 mag, I find thats more than enough for anything out to 50m, and I never shoot further than that. :):)

I suppose it's all relative to the size of the target guys? :)

I'm trying to get perfect hits on a 4mm aim point from 20 yards.

No matter how good we get,

    There’s always a twist

You may get perfect 4.5mm hole with three shots...

    But that’s not good enough...

    Five shots... then ten...

20 yards? Pffft childs play... push it out further... and further....

    It’s never ending :D
