1. The Forum Rules have undergone some minor changes and updates.  Please take the time to read them; it will only take a couple of minutes of your time. By doing so, you lessen the chance of incurring the wrath of the moderation team or making yourself look foolish to other members.

90% of users posting adverts in the Sales forums need to be reminded to read the rules as their posts are wrong.  This is unnecessarily time-consuming and will no longer happen - if your advert doesn't follow the Sales Rules it will be deleted and you'll have to start all over again.

  3. Dear members,

Our membership (like our country) consists of people from all walks of life; different in far more ways than can be listed here and each with a different view based on their experience of life - regardless of their colour, religion or cultural heritage. Every single person in the UK has been born of mixed race – we are a multi-coloured and multi-cultural country.

As many of you are aware there are a handful of individuals amongst this membership that persist in making provocative, inflammatory, racist and otherwise offensive comments. This has been happening across the forum to a certain degree but is most especially prevalent in the Adult section.

The moderation team has tried to stay on top of this, however unfortunately because of the ‘offensive’ nature of much of its content we don’t monitor the Adult section quite as much as perhaps we should. As a result much of this behaviour has gone unnoticed unless it has been reported to us. While the team always intended to take a "light touch" approach to the Adult section it would seem that some people aren’t quite adult enough to be left unmonitored after all.

This behaviour is, and always has been against Forum Rules as well as the specific stipulations of the Adults forum and it will no longer be tolerated. We feel it's time to draw a line in the sand and as such from this point onward offenders will receive an immediate and permanent ban from the forum.

In order for us to achieve our goal of restoring the forum to the friendly and tolerant place it once was, we ask that ALL members be mindful of the content they post and help us to stop unacceptable behaviour by using the 'Report' tool at the bottom of any offending post - the results of which can be seen only by Admin/Moderators.

You should all receive a copy of this message by PM.

  5. Postings on Politics, Religion & Controversial Off-Topic Material

The majority of users do not want to read about these subjects and people have left the forum as a result of it – this is after all an 'Airgun' Forum. It’s all very well to say they don’t have to read it if they don't want to, but as most of us use the ‘New Posts’ button there is no easy way to avoid it.

All AGF staff members are in favour of people being able to discuss what they want, but we have to draw the line somewhere if it is upsetting other users. We don’t want to read about these topics either.

IMPORTANT- The discussion of politics and religion is no longer allowed anywhere on the forum (including the Adult section).  The only exception is if it's airgun related - they must be put in the Airgun Related Politics section..

We will not tolerate bullying or personal attacks, racism or any other offensive 'isms'. we will remove these topics from the forum, we will not give you an area where you can abuse each other. We will not hesitate to ban offenders.

Most of the time it is a matter not what you know, but who you know .... plus the luck of being in the right place at the right time.

Look at it from the land owner's perspective, and pretend you are the land owner. . A complete stranger calls, and asks to shoot on your land. What are you going to say?
However, if you have a favourable introduction from someone whom the land owner knows, you are in with a chance.

If you do a good job at a permission, sometimes the word will spread and you might be offered other places to shoot.

Basically, be patient, be presentable and keep talking to people. Nobody gets a permission by being anonymous and/or keeping quiet.

    Good luck.

    FREE PEST CONTROL

    Dear Sir/ Madam
Please allow me to introduce myself, my name is Popgun, I am a 23 years old, living most of my life, in Purgatory & since retiring have taken up pest control in my spare time, after many years of air rifle ownership. I shoot air rifle, Rimfire, 17HMR & Shotgun.

I am writing to you concerning any pest control problems you may have on your farm and farm buildings.

There are many species of pests including:

Feral Pigeons: In areas close to towns they may use nearby farm buildings and lofts for a night-time roost. Ferrell’s carry lice and their excrement is both toxic and disease ridden including tuberculosis, encephalitis, lyme's disease (pigeon fanciers lung) paratyphoid, ornithosis, toxoplasmosis, and a type of flu. All these diseases are potently fatal they also cause untold crop damage.

Rats consume and contaminate feed as well as chew through electric cables and nest in the walls of buildings, silos and water tanks. They also carry a pretty nasty disease called Weil's disease which is life threatening.

Crows and magpies: These animals carry lice and a host of other parasites; they damage the nests of songbirds, by raiding the nests and eating the eggs. Crows have also been known to attack newborn lambs.
Rabbits can dig up your paddock causing holes which stock may injure themselves, they can also burrow under the footings of buildings causing them to be unstable. Rabbits have been known to consume considerable amounts of feed laid out for stocks in paddocks, 7 rabbits eat the same quantity of grass a single sheep does in a day.

England (excluding the City of London and Isles of Scilly) was declared a rabbit clearance area under the Pests Act 1954.
You must control rabbits on your land in this area. If this is not possible you must stop them causing damage to adjoining crops by putting up rabbit proof fencing. If you don’t take action the Secretary of State for the Environment can
enforce control and prosecute if this action is not taken.

The above lists the more common species but there are also jays, jackdaws, rooks, collard dove, grey squirrel, magpies, mink.
I am fully insured and a responsible shooter, and a member of the British Association of Shooters & Conservation (BASC https://basc.org.uk/about-basc/ ) , I would be willing to sign a total disclaimer for any injury / damage, whilst on the property.

I shoot with a whisper-quiet air rifles sub 12ftlbs legal limit & also hold firearm certificate for air rifles & .22 Rim fire Rifle all with moderators & very quiet, so that I able to humanely dispatch these pests safely. I also have NV (night vision) kit, so able to shoot safely & quietly at night. I also hold a Shotgun Certificate.

I am a courteous, patient and intelligent person by nature, always willing to learn, and follow instructions to the letter. I ask nothing in return for my services other than a continuous right to hunt the property and a friendly wave as I come and go.

Thank you for giving me a little of your time, I do apologies to any anti hunters I may have inadvertently sent this letter to, but rest assured I am doing my best to actively promote safe hunting and removal of pest species.

I send a similar email and letter out to local farms and golf courses, just wait to see if any replies.

Expect a 1/30 hit rate, it's not easy.
