1. The Forum Rules have undergone some minor changes and updates.  Please take the time to read them; it will only take a couple of minutes of your time. By doing so, you lessen the chance of incurring the wrath of the moderation team or making yourself look foolish to other members.

90% of users posting adverts in the Sales forums need to be reminded to read the rules as their posts are wrong.  This is unnecessarily time-consuming and will no longer happen - if your advert doesn't follow the Sales Rules it will be deleted and you'll have to start all over again.

  3. Dear members,

Our membership (like our country) consists of people from all walks of life; different in far more ways than can be listed here and each with a different view based on their experience of life - regardless of their colour, religion or cultural heritage. Every single person in the UK has been born of mixed race – we are a multi-coloured and multi-cultural country.

As many of you are aware there are a handful of individuals amongst this membership that persist in making provocative, inflammatory, racist and otherwise offensive comments. This has been happening across the forum to a certain degree but is most especially prevalent in the Adult section.

The moderation team has tried to stay on top of this, however unfortunately because of the ‘offensive’ nature of much of its content we don’t monitor the Adult section quite as much as perhaps we should. As a result much of this behaviour has gone unnoticed unless it has been reported to us. While the team always intended to take a "light touch" approach to the Adult section it would seem that some people aren’t quite adult enough to be left unmonitored after all.

This behaviour is, and always has been against Forum Rules as well as the specific stipulations of the Adults forum and it will no longer be tolerated. We feel it's time to draw a line in the sand and as such from this point onward offenders will receive an immediate and permanent ban from the forum.

In order for us to achieve our goal of restoring the forum to the friendly and tolerant place it once was, we ask that ALL members be mindful of the content they post and help us to stop unacceptable behaviour by using the 'Report' tool at the bottom of any offending post - the results of which can be seen only by Admin/Moderators.

You should all receive a copy of this message by PM.

  5. Postings on Politics, Religion & Controversial Off-Topic Material

The majority of users do not want to read about these subjects and people have left the forum as a result of it – this is after all an 'Airgun' Forum. It’s all very well to say they don’t have to read it if they don't want to, but as most of us use the ‘New Posts’ button there is no easy way to avoid it.

All AGF staff members are in favour of people being able to discuss what they want, but we have to draw the line somewhere if it is upsetting other users. We don’t want to read about these topics either.

IMPORTANT- The discussion of politics and religion is no longer allowed anywhere on the forum (including the Adult section).  The only exception is if it's airgun related - they must be put in the Airgun Related Politics section..

We will not tolerate bullying or personal attacks, racism or any other offensive 'isms'. we will remove these topics from the forum, we will not give you an area where you can abuse each other. We will not hesitate to ban offenders.

I’m interested in purchasing an air rifle from someone.

He contacted me through the forum.

The problem is he will only accept bank transfer or cheque?

He won’t use PayPal he said “PayPal won't insure anything gun related so he’s NEVER had anything to do with them”

I don’t think they insure anything do they?

I just find it strange he doesn’t want to use PayPal. Tbh I’ve never paid for an air gun with a bank transfer or let alone a cheque?

I said to him “I don’t understand why you can’t use PayPal” his response “I've tried to explain to you why I have nothing to do with PayPal. PLEASE DONT CONTACT ME AGAIN.”

There's a report button in PMs if you feel someone is attempting to scam you, this could help prevent anyone else being scammed too by highlighting it to the mod team.

PayPal do not allow the use of their services to purchase and sell airguns, if they find out a transaction is gun related they usually freeze the accounts involved and sieze the money transferred. I have had this issue last year to the sum of over £400.

Tbh I don’t think he’s trying to scam me, it’s just strange that he won’t have anything to do with PayPal unless he’s had problems with them in the past.

Also who sends a cheque to pay for an air gun?

There's nothing wrong with cheques, they still work. You just don't send the merchandise until the cheque has cleared. There are still lots of people out there don't do telephone or internet banking.

If someone wants to pay me for a rifle by bank transfer I will accept providing, the funds clear and are sitting in my bank before I post out.

I now don't sell on Ebay because of PayPal.

Ebay and PayPal have internal software problems. Ie there not communicating properly and I got charged twice for re-listing the same item. I also got charged 4 times for amending one item before it sold when Ebay stated nill fee.

I then had to argue and argue with PayPal to get my fees back that Ebay automatically took through PayPal. At the time I took my bank account off my PayPal and asked people not to put payments it.

If someone wants to pay me for a rifle by bank transfer I will accept providing, the funds clear and are sitting in my bank before I post out.

Caveat emptor ... was the contact unsolicited or is the person offering you the rifle a well known forum member with established feedback and credentials ?

If not, walk away and report them to the mod squad as a potential scammer

We may be classed as old fashioned, but we are not the sort of people who want everything right now! Like most people today if they cant have there and then they throw a tantrum, patience is a virtue, or are people just bone idle to go to the bank or post office, all this electronic banking crap is costing jobs, machines dont have mouths to feed, or doesnt it matter because its convenient.

With a feedback record like that, do yourself a favour and hand over cash once item has been inspected and in your possession.
If that makes it too far to travel, take a short walk in the other direction.

Poor feedback average would put me right off, and particularly after the reported attitude.

Even a single negative feedback is vanishingly rare on here. Two is exceptional.

With regard to Paypal, there are more than a few people who have had bad experiences with it, and they have a reputation for being arbitary with their enforcement. If it was a standalone issue from a reputable seller, it would be understandable. I usually pay on here with paypal purely for the convenience, but I have occasionally paid by bank transfer when the seller requested and looked legit.

Because its easier for you to claim on PayPal than a BACS transfer if he rips you off. No other benefit. Avoid.

You need to look at the reason for the negs.
I recall they were deals that got messed about and he did not rip people off if it's the member I'm thinking off
