1. The Forum Rules have undergone some minor changes and updates.  Please take the time to read them; it will only take a couple of minutes of your time. By doing so, you lessen the chance of incurring the wrath of the moderation team or making yourself look foolish to other members.

90% of users posting adverts in the Sales forums need to be reminded to read the rules as their posts are wrong.  This is unnecessarily time-consuming and will no longer happen - if your advert doesn't follow the Sales Rules it will be deleted and you'll have to start all over again.

  3. Dear members,

Our membership (like our country) consists of people from all walks of life; different in far more ways than can be listed here and each with a different view based on their experience of life - regardless of their colour, religion or cultural heritage. Every single person in the UK has been born of mixed race – we are a multi-coloured and multi-cultural country.

As many of you are aware there are a handful of individuals amongst this membership that persist in making provocative, inflammatory, racist and otherwise offensive comments. This has been happening across the forum to a certain degree but is most especially prevalent in the Adult section.

The moderation team has tried to stay on top of this, however unfortunately because of the ‘offensive’ nature of much of its content we don’t monitor the Adult section quite as much as perhaps we should. As a result much of this behaviour has gone unnoticed unless it has been reported to us. While the team always intended to take a "light touch" approach to the Adult section it would seem that some people aren’t quite adult enough to be left unmonitored after all.

This behaviour is, and always has been against Forum Rules as well as the specific stipulations of the Adults forum and it will no longer be tolerated. We feel it's time to draw a line in the sand and as such from this point onward offenders will receive an immediate and permanent ban from the forum.

In order for us to achieve our goal of restoring the forum to the friendly and tolerant place it once was, we ask that ALL members be mindful of the content they post and help us to stop unacceptable behaviour by using the 'Report' tool at the bottom of any offending post - the results of which can be seen only by Admin/Moderators.

You should all receive a copy of this message by PM.

They're starting to have young, the females will be mostly under ground.

They will still be popping up to feed, they'll be full of milk too. Reading this:-

The young can eat for themselves from around 14 days old.

I think it is completely unsporting, and also inhumane to shoot when there are dependent young. I will not be shooting pigeons or rabbits until about June. That si my choice and some will come on and say they would lose their permissions if they had this outlook. Not if you explained the situation to the land owner, compassion and respect is understood and respected. Indeed, it is part of the shooters creed.

Milky does are those feeding their dependent young with milk - their flesh is watery and tasteless. Youngsters are very tender, but there is no meat on them. the wise shooter takes a natural harvest - not shoots everything in sight.

A wise hunter does only take what he needs , but when your in charge of keeping vermin under control you have to fullfill your part of the agreement, if not the permission will find people that will. I'm lucky as have a couple of permissions, 2 would like to be rid of rabbits as they are costing those permissions a fortune, and the other is for general hunting.
Every bunny culled has a use, either eaten or as dog meat.

Clearly depends on why your shooting. Never noticed a different in taste between does and milky does. But the young ones taste extremely nice.

I know where you are coming from, which is why I put in the caveat - but we are in the opposite camp in that we had some lads in to have a go at the rabbits and they wiped ours out altogether. No permission will ever be granted to anyone again - we farm just shy of 660 acres. We are trying to get some rabbits back again.

I agree with easing off on the rabbits when they're breeding (not stopping all together though) if you shoot for the pot/sport.

All my permissions were granted for pest control so to me that means I'm out all year, shooting bucks, milky does and kits. I'm not fussed what size it is, if it's a bunny and it's in range, it's going to get slotted. Either that or the farmers will find someone else to do it for them.

I agree if you ease off them too much this time of year the population will explode ( if you have a good number of rabbits to start with). I know if this happens the farmers would say, there is a lot of damage being done to x,y,z fields can you gas the rabbits. Then I would have to gas the lot, expensive and a waste of meat. Much better to monitor the numbers and keep shooting them once the numbers in an area start to go up. Everyone likes to see a few rabbits in the countryside but once you can see a graze line it's time to act. Cheers Andy

was only asking about the "milky" situation.... some passionate people here!
the humanity says let them raise their younge
the vermin control thinks surley flipping a few bunnies now would have the larger impact on their population!?!

(either a risk for me as have no permissions yet) but ide rather see the little bunnies in my scope than shoot the mother before they have a chance to see daylight (ok if it was my land but would be doing a job on someone elses so would do as asked!)

Out of the three I've shot only one was a buck. The does we're not milky, and not pregnant either. Won't be long now though with the weather warming up nicely.
