1. The Forum Rules have undergone some minor changes and updates.  Please take the time to read them; it will only take a couple of minutes of your time. By doing so, you lessen the chance of incurring the wrath of the moderation team or making yourself look foolish to other members.

90% of users posting adverts in the Sales forums need to be reminded to read the rules as their posts are wrong.  This is unnecessarily time-consuming and will no longer happen - if your advert doesn't follow the Sales Rules it will be deleted and you'll have to start all over again.

  3. Dear members,

Our membership (like our country) consists of people from all walks of life; different in far more ways than can be listed here and each with a different view based on their experience of life - regardless of their colour, religion or cultural heritage. Every single person in the UK has been born of mixed race – we are a multi-coloured and multi-cultural country.

As many of you are aware there are a handful of individuals amongst this membership that persist in making provocative, inflammatory, racist and otherwise offensive comments. This has been happening across the forum to a certain degree but is most especially prevalent in the Adult section.

The moderation team has tried to stay on top of this, however unfortunately because of the ‘offensive’ nature of much of its content we don’t monitor the Adult section quite as much as perhaps we should. As a result much of this behaviour has gone unnoticed unless it has been reported to us. While the team always intended to take a "light touch" approach to the Adult section it would seem that some people aren’t quite adult enough to be left unmonitored after all.

This behaviour is, and always has been against Forum Rules as well as the specific stipulations of the Adults forum and it will no longer be tolerated. We feel it's time to draw a line in the sand and as such from this point onward offenders will receive an immediate and permanent ban from the forum.

In order for us to achieve our goal of restoring the forum to the friendly and tolerant place it once was, we ask that ALL members be mindful of the content they post and help us to stop unacceptable behaviour by using the 'Report' tool at the bottom of any offending post - the results of which can be seen only by Admin/Moderators.

  5. Postings on Politics, Religion & Controversial Off-Topic Material

The majority of users do not want to read about these subjects and people have left the forum as a result of it – this is after all an 'Airgun' Forum. It’s all very well to say they don’t have to read it if they don't want to, but as most of us use the ‘New Posts’ button there is no easy way to avoid it.

All AGF staff members are in favour of people being able to discuss what they want, but we have to draw the line somewhere if it is upsetting other users. We don’t want to read about these topics either.

IMPORTANT- The discussion of politics and religion is no longer allowed anywhere on the forum (including the Adult section).  The only exception is if it's airgun related - they must be put in the Airgun Related Politics section..

We will not tolerate bullying or personal attacks, racism or any other offensive 'isms'. we will remove these topics from the forum, we will not give you an area where you can abuse each other. We will not hesitate to ban offenders.

    Hello All,

I am fairly new to this sport and I am having a bit of a hard time in deciding what should be my next purchase, so I was hoping you guys can help me decide.

    My current toys are:

    BSA Ultra SE
    Air Arms S400F

I am debating on the S510 as I am very impressed with my 400 in performance however what do you guys think? I have heard that they are identical to the 410 minus the side lever mechanism.

    Cheers,

    Martin

I've got a 510, very good gun but I wouldnt see the point in owning a 410 as well, it's too similar.
Ok yours is the single shot but is your ultra a multi? Seems like you'd have multiple guns that cover pretty much the same bases.

What kind of shooting are you interested in - hunting, paper targets, field target, bell target, pinking etc? The gun depends entirely on what you want to do with it.

Ultra is a multi shot but its a piece of S***.... 30 shots at most first 10 shots spot on next 10 are lower and final 10 are higher.... Probably will be selling it or maybe taken for a full service or the equivalent of changing my engine :D

Its very hard to answer you, since I kind of love all of it. However I find myself shooting at paper targets at about 35 yards when I occasionally go hunting I tend to shoot up to 60/70 yards. Not really a fan of the carbine variants after my horrendous experience with one (Ultra)

I'd second this - springers are great fun and a whole new set of challenges. A chrono will allow you to see whats your Ultra is doing.
The best thing to do would be go find a local club, see what everyone else is shooting, have a go and then buy what you enjoyed shooting the most.

The 510 runs a sidelever action as you rightly state.
Multi shot whereas your 400 is single shot.

The 510 has a shrouded barrel with an option to add a silencer with a male thread.
The 400 has an unshrouded barrel with an option of adding a slip on silencer or a slip on adaptor to take a threaded silencer.

    I don't think I'd buy a 510 if I owned a 400. Unless of course you want a multi shot.

I'd probably go 510 over a 410 as I think the sidelever is better than the bolt action

What is the hype for Springers? :D Like the only Springer I have owned is a SMK b2 deluxe and the name was a just a lie. Should have been called Made in China.

Open to all, no real firm budget but cant justify throwing over 1k on something that gets used on a weekend only

    Any suggestions? air arms etc.

Not part of a local club technically speaking but me and a few of my shooting pals created a rifle club where we shoot every weekend. Its one thing trying it its entirely different owning it... Hence the advise part :p

I think I am leaning into the multi shot variant which is silly as I have a manually indexing multi shot converter installed on my 400.... I just know I want something that is quality and is the next step up of my 400 :)

Flog the ultra & the 400 mag unit, then get the S510, you'd have a good target gun in the 400 & a nice hunting gun with the 510.
Im after a 177 pcp that's quality, although I wouldn't buy another 510 as I don't want two the same.
If an HW100 comes up secondhand I'll probably get that, or a Daystate Wolverine type C.

It's fantastic, but blows a huge hole in the 1k budget.

HW100 is worth a look too.

    I'd take a look at the HW110 K
you might have to invest in some new mounts and a bi-pod... but it's worth it!!

The AA mag system on the 410/510 is as good one.

Whether its worth the spend is only for you to decide..

I have a 510tdr. Very accurate but no more so than the 400 I had a while ago.

In reality no more hassle to reload either.
I've hunted for 35 years and never needed a mag fed rifle. Had a few over the years but I prefer a single shot

410 and 510 are pretty much the same action, the only difference being the cocking system and adjustable stock of the 510 "but" if I'm not mistaken (and I might be) the 510 has a reg ?...

Just been on AA website. The 12ftlbs 510 doesn't look to be offered with a reg.
Though the TDR has a regged variant, as do the 510 FAC rifles

Sorry the Ultra didn’t work for you, I wouldn’t part with mine for anything! Almost the best gun I’ve ever owned (R10 being the first).

However, you should get yourself a quality springer, any of the German made ones would do. I have an HW95K and love it.

Another vote for a springer. You've already got a cracker of a PCP in the AA and the little ultra by what I've heard so go for something different.

As Mike has said a HW95K would be an interesting choice or an 80, TX, 97, 77 etc.

Of course you won't go too far wrong with the S510 but you might just find it a little too similar to the S410.
