1. The Forum Rules have undergone some minor changes and updates.  Please take the time to read them; it will only take a couple of minutes of your time. By doing so, you lessen the chance of incurring the wrath of the moderation team or making yourself look foolish to other members.

90% of users posting adverts in the Sales forums need to be reminded to read the rules as their posts are wrong.  This is unnecessarily time-consuming and will no longer happen - if your advert doesn't follow the Sales Rules it will be deleted and you'll have to start all over again.

  3. Dear members,

Our membership (like our country) consists of people from all walks of life; different in far more ways than can be listed here and each with a different view based on their experience of life - regardless of their colour, religion or cultural heritage. Every single person in the UK has been born of mixed race – we are a multi-coloured and multi-cultural country.

As many of you are aware there are a handful of individuals amongst this membership that persist in making provocative, inflammatory, racist and otherwise offensive comments. This has been happening across the forum to a certain degree but is most especially prevalent in the Adult section.

The moderation team has tried to stay on top of this, however unfortunately because of the ‘offensive’ nature of much of its content we don’t monitor the Adult section quite as much as perhaps we should. As a result much of this behaviour has gone unnoticed unless it has been reported to us. While the team always intended to take a "light touch" approach to the Adult section it would seem that some people aren’t quite adult enough to be left unmonitored after all.

This behaviour is, and always has been against Forum Rules as well as the specific stipulations of the Adults forum and it will no longer be tolerated. We feel it's time to draw a line in the sand and as such from this point onward offenders will receive an immediate and permanent ban from the forum.

In order for us to achieve our goal of restoring the forum to the friendly and tolerant place it once was, we ask that ALL members be mindful of the content they post and help us to stop unacceptable behaviour by using the 'Report' tool at the bottom of any offending post - the results of which can be seen only by Admin/Moderators.

Hi all, I have some questions on purchasing my first gun.
Firstly I bought a gun years ago and it is sitting in the back of my shed. Think it's some sort if Russian cheap price of crap. My friend and I bought them about 20 years ago and immediately replaced the spring with a beefier one. It is useless! It may well be illegal too so what should I do about getting rid of it?
I want to get into field target shooting and a small bit of rabbit and pigeon hunting. I have settled upon buying a Weihrauch HW97k. I see prices here in pounds match the euro price in Europe. That would save me about £80 on a new one. How does the law work on buying one abroad and bringing it home?
i also have a problem whereby I am right handed and have a left dominant eye. I don't know wether to buy a right or left handed gun.
been looking at scopes and that is another minefield. What spec would I need for the type of shooting I will be doing?
probably l been asked before so apologies if I am boring you.

I buy from Germany regularly, there are no issues as its in the EU and their limit is lower than ours. When you order one, order a spring as well as the first thing you should do with an HW is strip, degrease, deburr, polish and rebuild it. I bought an ambi one and try shooting left handed regularly (I'm left eye dominant too).

Lastly, although it may kick like a mule, I very much doubt your old Baikals are illegal. Cut them up and scrap them or offer them as projects and let someone else worry about it!;)

I'm exactly the same and only found out when getting some pistol instruction. I find closing my left ,dominant, eye when rifle shooting helps and would not try changing from a right handed rifle to a left one purely because the hold is much more comfortable....for me

I would recommend and scope in the region of 3-12x40 with an adjustable Objective collar for hunting and FT shooting mate. You'll probably find a magnification from x6 to x9 will be ideal hunting and you can focus the objective to around 25-30 yards for general walking about or to whatever is appropriate from a static hide. I would make sure the AO will focus down to at least 10 yards for rat shooting etc.. I come down to x3 mag when using my night vision equipment for a wide field of view then up it to between x6-9 when I spot something, depending on it's range.

You may use the higher mags (x10-12) when FT shooting, plus with previously calculated range markers on the objective bell, you can use a higher mag for range finding. The higher the mag, the lower the depth of focus, so get something pin sharp when on x12, read off the yardage from the bell and it won't be far off that range, very handy when using a .22 with a fairly loopy tradjectory....

If you want to do general shooting, hunting and informal target shooting, a 3-9 x 50 or 4-12 x 50 AO will do you perfectly,Hawke Sport HDs are well known, popular and budget priced scopes which feature the above models.

If you want to do FT,you'll need something with a much higher mag,I shoot an 8-32 x 60 MTC Viper but I find it lacking at times, always remember,as your mag increases, your lense quality needs to increase too, otherwise you'll end up with a poorly performing scope.

For hunting,a lot of people use magnification in the range of 4 to 9,general plinking I shoot on 12 mag,for HFT I shoot on 10 and for FT I shoot on 32 but if I could afford a decent scope,I'd shoot on 50.
