1. The Forum Rules have undergone some minor changes and updates.  Please take the time to read them; it will only take a couple of minutes of your time. By doing so, you lessen the chance of incurring the wrath of the moderation team or making yourself look foolish to other members.

90% of users posting adverts in the Sales forums need to be reminded to read the rules as their posts are wrong.  This is unnecessarily time-consuming and will no longer happen - if your advert doesn't follow the Sales Rules it will be deleted and you'll have to start all over again.

  3. Dear members,

Our membership (like our country) consists of people from all walks of life; different in far more ways than can be listed here and each with a different view based on their experience of life - regardless of their colour, religion or cultural heritage. Every single person in the UK has been born of mixed race – we are a multi-coloured and multi-cultural country.

As many of you are aware there are a handful of individuals amongst this membership that persist in making provocative, inflammatory, racist and otherwise offensive comments. This has been happening across the forum to a certain degree but is most especially prevalent in the Adult section.

The moderation team has tried to stay on top of this, however unfortunately because of the ‘offensive’ nature of much of its content we don’t monitor the Adult section quite as much as perhaps we should. As a result much of this behaviour has gone unnoticed unless it has been reported to us. While the team always intended to take a "light touch" approach to the Adult section it would seem that some people aren’t quite adult enough to be left unmonitored after all.

This behaviour is, and always has been against Forum Rules as well as the specific stipulations of the Adults forum and it will no longer be tolerated. We feel it's time to draw a line in the sand and as such from this point onward offenders will receive an immediate and permanent ban from the forum.

In order for us to achieve our goal of restoring the forum to the friendly and tolerant place it once was, we ask that ALL members be mindful of the content they post and help us to stop unacceptable behaviour by using the 'Report' tool at the bottom of any offending post - the results of which can be seen only by Admin/Moderators.

You should all receive a copy of this message by PM.

    Hi there.
I have been following the progress of the Pitch Black nv system from Best fittings
I was looking at the "Hunter" system, but now find that after being "Out of stock" the "Hunter" seems to have been replaced by the new "Field Master"? [IMG]
There seems to be very little detail, or information on the Best fittings site, as to the development, and production of the new "Field Master".
I would be very interested to hear comments from any folk here that have knowledge of, - or further information regarding this new system.
    Cheers.
    Steve

I've just had a quick look at their website and this unit does look different. The IR is now external with a T20 torch backed up by a visible (white?) light and presumably the overall height is reduced. It looks like continuing product development taking account of reviews and comments and I would expect it to work well. There was someone from the company who posted on here a while back, don'y know if he's still around.

    Thanks Terry.
Yes, i started a thread a while back, looking at the original "Pitch Black " system.
It raised a lot of comments from the folk here .
The chap who actually designed it posted several replies regarding the original system. (guywithglasses)
I cant see that he has made any recent posts regarding the "Pitch Black " development.
I would like to find out more about the "New Fieldmaster" system.
Looking at the size , it may be possible to mount it on an existing scope, - as an "add-on".
I know that is not it's intended use, but i thought it would then be possible to use on my all my scoped rifles(Sub12ftlb, FacAir, & Rimfires).
Rather than having it solely for one rifle.
I will try Messaging the designer, to see what he has to say.
    Cheers.
    Steve

Not sure about the size, probably similar to a camcorder but not quite so tall and maybe a bit longer. The standard lens fitted wouldn't suit an add-on, it's a 50mm from memory and you probably wouldn't want anything more than 25mm and a lot of people use 16mm or even 12mm (which I think is to short). If you could take off the 2 torches, which is probable, then the weight should be manageable. It's going to be set up for its intended use so may not be ideal as an add-on.
If you want an add-on it's better to build it yourself and save half the cost, if you want a fold out screen it wouldn't be too difficult to make. The performance would probably be slightly better if you used an e700 camera and it would be lighter to hang off the end of your scope if you mounted the screen to the front end of the scope.

    Thanks again Terry.
    I have been in touch with Nic - the designer of the systems, and he is happy for me to post his replies here;

Hi Steve and thanks for your interest.

We do have Hunters left but in very limited supply as all our attention has indeed been focused on the new Field Master system.
Although the hunter is very popular with professional game keepers and pest controllers, it was clear that domestic users wanted something a little smaller.
For this reason the concept was kept the same but we have externalised the IR giving us the ability to reduce the body to just 60% of the Hunter. This reduction in size has meant that the main unit now weighs just a little over 800 grams, keeping it very light on the rifle. The inclusion of twin accessory rails now means that the IR and flashlight can be included / removed to suit the requirements of the shoot. We also wanted to offer the Field Master as a complete kit, leaving no additional purchases by the customer. Have you seen the images of what is supplied in the kit?
