1. The Forum Rules have undergone some minor changes and updates.  Please take the time to read them; it will only take a couple of minutes of your time. By doing so, you lessen the chance of incurring the wrath of the moderation team or making yourself look foolish to other members.

    90% of users posting adverts in the Sales forums need to be reminded to read the rules as their posts are wrong.  This is unnecessarily time-consuming and will no longer happen - if your advert doesn't follow the Sales Rules it will be deleted and you'll have to start all over again.

  3. Dear members,

    Our membership (like our country) consists of people from all walks of life; different in far more ways than can be listed here and each with a different view based on their experience of life - regardless of their colour, religion or cultural heritage. Every single person in the UK has been born of mixed race – we are a multi-coloured and multi-cultural country.

    As many of you are aware there are a handful of individuals amongst this membership that persist in making provocative, inflammatory, racist and otherwise offensive comments. This has been happening across the forum to a certain degree but is most especially prevalent in the Adult section.

    The moderation team has tried to stay on top of this, however unfortunately because of the ‘offensive’ nature of much of its content we don’t monitor the Adult section quite as much as perhaps we should. As a result much of this behaviour has gone unnoticed unless it has been reported to us. While the team always intended to take a "light touch" approach to the Adult section it would seem that some people aren’t quite adult enough to be left unmonitored after all.

    This behaviour is, and always has been against Forum Rules as well as the specific stipulations of the Adults forum and it will no longer be tolerated. We feel it's time to draw a line in the sand and as such from this point onward offenders will receive an immediate and permanent ban from the forum.

    In order for us to achieve our goal of restoring the forum to the friendly and tolerant place it once was, we ask that ALL members be mindful of the content they post and help us to stop unacceptable behaviour by using the 'Report' tool at the bottom of any offending post - the results of which can be seen only by Admin/Moderators.

    You should all receive a copy of this message by PM.

  5. Postings on Politics, Religion & Controversial Off-Topic Material

    The majority of users do not want to read about these subjects and people have left the forum as a result of it – this is after all an 'Airgun' Forum. It’s all very well to say they don’t have to read it if they don't want to, but as most of us use the ‘New Posts’ button there is no easy way to avoid it.

    All AGF staff members are in favour of people being able to discuss what they want, but we have to draw the line somewhere if it is upsetting other users. We don’t want to read about these topics either.

    IMPORTANT- The discussion of politics and religion is no longer allowed anywhere on the forum (including the Adult section).  The only exception is if it's airgun related - they must be put in the Airgun Related Politics section..

    We will not tolerate bullying or personal attacks, racism or any other offensive 'isms'. we will remove these topics from the forum, we will not give you an area where you can abuse each other. We will not hesitate to ban offenders.

    I've been looking for a suitable holster for my Colt SAA 5½" for a good while, scouring through the ebay auctions on an almost daily basis, checking through the freeads (that shows how long I've been looking for, lol) and anywhere else I could think of.....

    I wasn't after much, it had to be black, plain (as opposed to a tooled one), small (as I don't like the overly large Mexican double loop styled versions either), no conchos ! (they're for Rodeo riders and Hollywood movies, not for real cowboys) and I was looking for a 'broken in' one (the thought of having a brand new holster doesn't appeal to me especially when it's holding a Colt SAA), not too much to ask for, is it ?

    Well I finally managed to track one down from one of my favourite sellers on ebay (a guy called Dan) who I'd bought speedloader pouches, holsters and speedloaders from in the past and after a gentle bit of persuading he reduced it down to a tenner for me (as I said, he's a good guy), it looks like it had been used on the range back in the 1880's judging by it's condition but I thought "Damn it, YOLO !" and bought it.

    Some of the original seller's pictures ;

    Well, as you can see it had seen better days and the buckle is about done, but I liked the look of it's shape and the fact that it had the original hammer retention slip on it singled it out as a suitable holster for the Colt SAA, well suitable for my needs anyhow.

    When it turned up the leather was so dry and crumbly that I worried that I had bought a lemon, so I thought 'nothing ventured, nothing gained', gently brushed the dry dirt and mould off of it and stuck it in a bowl of luke warm water for 5 minutes, gave it a scrub off whilst in the water and gently started to manipulate it into a rough shape. Once I got the gun in it I was shocked at just how good a fit it was, not only was it just the shape I was looking for but it was a perfect fit for the gun ! On the down side though I had stripped the buckle strap off of it prior to soaking and removed the buckle from the strap, gave it a rub done on a brass wire wheel and it came up shockingly well considering the amount of rust that had been on it, so I refitted it back on the strap (hand riveted it back into place) and refitted the strap but unfortunately the leather had rotten so badly that it literally fell apart whilst cinching it up (damn it !!!).

    Once the holster had dried out I set about recolouring it with leather dye and giving it multiple coats of leather conditioner, letting it dry out in between coats and just rubbing it with my hands to work the oils into the leather.

    I ordered another leg tie for it (4mm round leather lace) as it had the holes there for it and a new 6" buckle strap from ebay, fitted them and took some pictures ;

    It fits like a glove, if wasn't for the hammer retention slip the gun would just slide out of the holster (if you hold it upside down). All in all, I am very happy, it took a bit of work (but what else are we going to do during lock down, lol ?) but was worth every minute I've spent on her giving the ol' girl a new lease of life.
    Needless to say, I've been practising my quick draw and once this damned rain stops I'm gonna start practising my hip shooting from the draw too, so watch out @Wild Bill I'm gonna be gunning for you soon, lol.

    Now all I need now is a black cartridge belt with the bullet lace on the left hand side (I reload with my left hand rather than the right) on the opposite side of the belt to the gun, hopefully it won't take as long to get one of those as it did the darn holster, lol.

    :)

    Yeah, we all know what happened to Jack Palance by the end of that film, he was only ever good at bullying unarmed farmers into a early grave, when he finally came up against a man who could actually hold a gun, didn't work out too well for him, not well at all......:)
