1. The Forum Rules have undergone some minor changes and updates.  Please take the time to read them; it will only take a couple of minutes of your time. By doing so, you lessen the chance of incurring the wrath of the moderation team or making yourself look foolish to other members.

90% of users posting adverts in the Sales forums need to be reminded to read the rules as their posts are wrong.  This is unnecessarily time-consuming and will no longer happen - if your advert doesn't follow the Sales Rules it will be deleted and you'll have to start all over again.

  3. Dear members,

Our membership (like our country) consists of people from all walks of life; different in far more ways than can be listed here and each with a different view based on their experience of life - regardless of their colour, religion or cultural heritage. Every single person in the UK has been born of mixed race – we are a multi-coloured and multi-cultural country.

As many of you are aware there are a handful of individuals amongst this membership that persist in making provocative, inflammatory, racist and otherwise offensive comments. This has been happening across the forum to a certain degree but is most especially prevalent in the Adult section.

The moderation team has tried to stay on top of this, however unfortunately because of the ‘offensive’ nature of much of its content we don’t monitor the Adult section quite as much as perhaps we should. As a result much of this behaviour has gone unnoticed unless it has been reported to us. While the team always intended to take a "light touch" approach to the Adult section it would seem that some people aren’t quite adult enough to be left unmonitored after all.

This behaviour is, and always has been against Forum Rules as well as the specific stipulations of the Adults forum and it will no longer be tolerated. We feel it's time to draw a line in the sand and as such from this point onward offenders will receive an immediate and permanent ban from the forum.

In order for us to achieve our goal of restoring the forum to the friendly and tolerant place it once was, we ask that ALL members be mindful of the content they post and help us to stop unacceptable behaviour by using the 'Report' tool at the bottom of any offending post - the results of which can be seen only by Admin/Moderators.

You should all receive a copy of this message by PM.

  5. Postings on Politics, Religion & Controversial Off-Topic Material

The majority of users do not want to read about these subjects and people have left the forum as a result of it – this is after all an 'Airgun' Forum. It’s all very well to say they don’t have to read it if they don't want to, but as most of us use the ‘New Posts’ button there is no easy way to avoid it.

All AGF staff members are in favour of people being able to discuss what they want, but we have to draw the line somewhere if it is upsetting other users. We don’t want to read about these topics either.

IMPORTANT- The discussion of politics and religion is no longer allowed anywhere on the forum (including the Adult section).  The only exception is if it's airgun related - they must be put in the Airgun Related Politics section..

We will not tolerate bullying or personal attacks, racism or any other offensive 'isms'. we will remove these topics from the forum, we will not give you an area where you can abuse each other. We will not hesitate to ban offenders.

My ridiculous "around the houses" route to an airgun - an archery set!

So we've already had a Decathlon archery set with sucker arrows - quite useful but clearly not that accurate. My son (aged 8) was quite a handy shot.
So I spotted a Barnett Banshee Quad bow at our local discount store and was "allowed" to buy it - 25lbs pull so hardly the stuff of Olympic archers but it looks pretty handy and the arrows are sort of "blunt" but fairly proper.
I've also bought a foam target (with 20 paper targets), a wooden stand, spare arrows and a wrist guard. Of course it mostly for my son but I'm rather looking forward to using it!

Using this very useful forum, I plan on using it to become a keyboard expert on air rifles (some of the threads here are REALLY useful!) then hopefully make the right choice (still set on the AA S510) when I'm finally given the green light - if that ever happens!

Can you borrow a pet rat and let it loose near the mrs lol you would only have to do it once, then catch it when she not looking and return it to its owner....then every now n then mention to her you have seen a rat in the garden...if you had an air rifle there wouldn't be a rat running around any more lol (this is a joke by the way!) you could just say that you seen them in the garden ;)

Get some testicle seeds and place them in a plant pot 6" in dia.
Water them daily and after two weeks you will have "grown a pair"
You will then be able to have as many Air Rifles as you want.:D

I was married once(i'm still in therapy) and was given the ultimatum,"me or the air rifles".I chose rifles and got divorced. Now it's a case of me and my hobby or there's the door.Jeez we sacrifice enough for them and yet it's never enough.A line has to be drawn that they can not step over.

The more I read on here the luckier I feel. My gorgeous girlfriend is the reason I'm so keen on air rifles... she bought me my 1st one as a birthday present, has encouraged me to shoot more than I already do and might be getting me an air pistol for Christmas... truly my cup runneth over!

Just for balance, my wife lets me surf whenever I want; three times so far this week.
She's actually a pretty good shot (we did kangaroo "pest control" on her relatives farm deep in the Oz Outback).
We share purse strings but as she's a proper petrol head, we have a trio of decent motors.

And her dad has a sodding great yacht in the Med :D

So I'm not too hard done by. Just something about an air rifle in the house with young kids.
if I pushed it, I'm sure I could store one elsewhere.

I'll get there soon and when I do, I'll make a right fuss about it.

Pretty sure there's some archaic law that requires all male subjects to practice archery on a Sunday, if only there were a similar law for airguns...

is an airgun locked away in a cabinet anymore dangerous than a kitchen drawer full of knives ???

buy yourself and the kid an airgun and teach him while hes young

Tried that. Tried suggesting a 320bhp car capable of 170mph (or the 3 tonne camper) is possibly rather more dangerous, mentioned that the BB gun that was "fine" (but broke) was 500fps, not far off most air rifles, tried mentioning that the Coastguarding and Winter surfing I do is rather more hazardous, tried taking up naked knife fighting in Mexico City, experimented with blindfolded shuriken throwing; all to no avail.

I'll get there though; I always do. This is just a tougher nut to crack than previous ones.

Not being funny, but have you actually asked her why the aversion? An argument ain't ever going to get the outcome you want.

posted whilst FD is on the move

Its the kids (daughter is 5, son is 8); she thinks it gives a bad impression.
We'll see what Christmas brings; I noticed a softening of attitude earlier...

My wife was all over my kayaking and whitewater paddling then it was you cannot do that put your life in danger etc what about me the kids morgage. I had a VW Bay window I sold to help with the wedding with the we will get one after we have settled down after the wedding 22 years I'm still waiting. I gave up a skiing holiday as it was just a holiday and I didn't need to go it took me 5 years to force her into going. If your a skier you will understand it's not JUST a holiday. So enjoy your cup mate as you will be drinking the dregs soon.

That is the reason ? Both my kids grew up seeing me shoot. They both also grew up with a healthy respect for guns and how to safely handle them. OK so its maybe not an essential life skill but it certainly hasn't done them any harm. Neither of them regard guns as "bad things" as to them it was as "normal" as seeing me go to work.
