1. The Forum Rules have undergone some minor changes and updates.  Please take the time to read them; it will only take a couple of minutes of your time. By doing so, you lessen the chance of incurring the wrath of the moderation team or making yourself look foolish to other members.

90% of users posting adverts in the Sales forums need to be reminded to read the rules as their posts are wrong.  This is unnecessarily time-consuming and will no longer happen - if your advert doesn't follow the Sales Rules it will be deleted and you'll have to start all over again.

  3. Dear members,

Our membership (like our country) consists of people from all walks of life; different in far more ways than can be listed here and each with a different view based on their experience of life - regardless of their colour, religion or cultural heritage. Every single person in the UK has been born of mixed race – we are a multi-coloured and multi-cultural country.

As many of you are aware there are a handful of individuals amongst this membership that persist in making provocative, inflammatory, racist and otherwise offensive comments. This has been happening across the forum to a certain degree but is most especially prevalent in the Adult section.

The moderation team has tried to stay on top of this, however unfortunately because of the ‘offensive’ nature of much of its content we don’t monitor the Adult section quite as much as perhaps we should. As a result much of this behaviour has gone unnoticed unless it has been reported to us. While the team always intended to take a "light touch" approach to the Adult section it would seem that some people aren’t quite adult enough to be left unmonitored after all.

This behaviour is, and always has been against Forum Rules as well as the specific stipulations of the Adults forum and it will no longer be tolerated. We feel it's time to draw a line in the sand and as such from this point onward offenders will receive an immediate and permanent ban from the forum.

In order for us to achieve our goal of restoring the forum to the friendly and tolerant place it once was, we ask that ALL members be mindful of the content they post and help us to stop unacceptable behaviour by using the 'Report' tool at the bottom of any offending post - the results of which can be seen only by Admin/Moderators.

You should all receive a copy of this message by PM.

  5. Postings on Politics, Religion & Controversial Off-Topic Material

The majority of users do not want to read about these subjects and people have left the forum as a result of it – this is after all an 'Airgun' Forum. It’s all very well to say they don’t have to read it if they don't want to, but as most of us use the ‘New Posts’ button there is no easy way to avoid it.

All AGF staff members are in favour of people being able to discuss what they want, but we have to draw the line somewhere if it is upsetting other users. We don’t want to read about these topics either.

IMPORTANT- The discussion of politics and religion is no longer allowed anywhere on the forum (including the Adult section).  The only exception is if it's airgun related - they must be put in the Airgun Related Politics section..

We will not tolerate bullying or personal attacks, racism or any other offensive 'isms'. we will remove these topics from the forum, we will not give you an area where you can abuse each other. We will not hesitate to ban offenders.

    Info pls chaps
i have newly acquired this gun, had a problem removing the barrel with the baffle attached, from the Mod tube but after an hour of very careful work extracted it. The gun is just 2 yrs old & i bet the Mod had never been cleaned out.
    Now my question is this
should there be a set of baffles in the chamber forward of the barrel as the 20g does

Yes there should be in the standard moderator.
Unless you have a short 9 inch moderator fitted then there won’t be any baffles.
( these mods are an optional extra and not standard)
It would be unlikely one of these is fitted.
Not super quiet but have their uses.
The nine inch will only have a couple of inches void after the barrel.
The standard mod will have about 8 inches of void after the barrel.
The standard mod is 16 1/2 inches long and the short mod 9 inches long.
    The two mods compared.

This is a baffle from the 16 inch mod.[IMG][IMG]

    Its the long Mod"

All there is on the inside, is the washer / baffle affixed to the end of the barrel

    Update
I contacted the previous owner who stated he had never taken the Mod apart, that would tally with my findings.
i have just spoken with John @ The Saddlery & Gunroom. Yes it should have had 4 baffles fitted & yes it would have had them fitted from new & as a tight fit would not have fallen out, he didnt offer free replacements . Anyway a set of baffles is £13 delivered.
So hopefully by Wednesday all will be good

I had a brainwave yesterday, Hob Cleaner
So gotta stick & cable tied a pan scourer to it, poured the hob cleaner into the tube & slowly turned it whilst pointing slightly downward to get the product coating the whole internals of the tube, then in with the pad on a stick. Its almost totally clear of carbon now, well pleased with the result.

PS i thoroughly washed off hob cleaner residue, it is acidic :thumb:

I used caustic soda on my old two stroke motorcycle exhausts to get rid of the build up of carbon and oil. You need to be quick to clean it all off when it has done it,s evil work. I have also used it on worn anozized parts such as handlebars to get back to the original aluminium.(again be quick as it will start to etch the metal if you leave it too long) I think Hob cleaner would be a better bet for coated, anodized or blued parts as it is less destructive. Great idea.

If the tube is a little coated beware to push the baffles in from the breech end of the silencer. Otherwise they will scrape off carbon and stick.

This came without the baffles from new, for some inexplicable reason. I have a set coming front S & G , hopefully today, i have coated the inside of the tube with copper grease ( as suggested on another thread ), so all ready to assemble when the baffles pitch-up.

Am i correct in my assumption, that these baffles go into the tube rounded side first

Yes from the breech end of the silencer. Don’t try to push them the other way or they can jam.

I have never used any grease in any of my silenced shotguns if you clean every 500 or 1000 or so you should not need to.

No idea mine does not have one fitted.

Unless he is talking about the ring that Allen bolts to the end of the barrel and separates the reflexed section of silencer that stops the gas from the ported section of barrel.
From the gas slowed by the baffles.
This fits after the last port.
    ( mine has 6 baffles fitted )

    Update

Sod all in the post today, so i call Saddlery & Gunroom. John not there on a Wednesday & keeps info "in his head", spose that saves pencil & paper .
Chatting to the chap it seems i may have a Hushpower (York Guns) "clone" ( Stealth ) as mine doesnt have the brass pip on the front end cap that theirs do have, also it may not have had baffles originally.
John is back in work tomorrow & will have a note on his desk
I called Simpsons of Newmkt, but they are shut for the duration

Well if in doubt -- Look at the box
It a Hushpower ( sans brass pip & baffles )

    Strange one.
Many RFDs do make further modifications to hushpowers but that does not normally involve opening it up and throwing half the bits away :)

Maybe the RFD started a modification then got distracted or something and just reassembled without baffles.

I would have assumed that the Mod would be delivered to the RFD full assembled, on the barrel, all ready to hand over to the customer

York Guns Stealths have a one piece stack of baffles to the front with a long (empty) expansion chamber behind covering the ported barrel. No brass pip.
