1. The Forum Rules have undergone some minor changes and updates.  Please take the time to read them; it will only take a couple of minutes of your time. By doing so, you lessen the chance of incurring the wrath of the moderation team or making yourself look foolish to other members.

90% of users posting adverts in the Sales forums need to be reminded to read the rules as their posts are wrong.  This is unnecessarily time-consuming and will no longer happen - if your advert doesn't follow the Sales Rules it will be deleted and you'll have to start all over again.

  3. Dear members,

Our membership (like our country) consists of people from all walks of life; different in far more ways than can be listed here and each with a different view based on their experience of life - regardless of their colour, religion or cultural heritage. Every single person in the UK has been born of mixed race – we are a multi-coloured and multi-cultural country.

As many of you are aware there are a handful of individuals amongst this membership that persist in making provocative, inflammatory, racist and otherwise offensive comments. This has been happening across the forum to a certain degree but is most especially prevalent in the Adult section.

The moderation team has tried to stay on top of this, however unfortunately because of the ‘offensive’ nature of much of its content we don’t monitor the Adult section quite as much as perhaps we should. As a result much of this behaviour has gone unnoticed unless it has been reported to us. While the team always intended to take a "light touch" approach to the Adult section it would seem that some people aren’t quite adult enough to be left unmonitored after all.

This behaviour is, and always has been against Forum Rules as well as the specific stipulations of the Adults forum and it will no longer be tolerated. We feel it's time to draw a line in the sand and as such from this point onward offenders will receive an immediate and permanent ban from the forum.

In order for us to achieve our goal of restoring the forum to the friendly and tolerant place it once was, we ask that ALL members be mindful of the content they post and help us to stop unacceptable behaviour by using the 'Report' tool at the bottom of any offending post - the results of which can be seen only by Admin/Moderators.

You should all receive a copy of this message by PM.

  5. Postings on Politics, Religion & Controversial Off-Topic Material

The majority of users do not want to read about these subjects and people have left the forum as a result of it – this is after all an 'Airgun' Forum. It’s all very well to say they don’t have to read it if they don't want to, but as most of us use the ‘New Posts’ button there is no easy way to avoid it.

All AGF staff members are in favour of people being able to discuss what they want, but we have to draw the line somewhere if it is upsetting other users. We don’t want to read about these topics either.

IMPORTANT- The discussion of politics and religion is no longer allowed anywhere on the forum (including the Adult section).  The only exception is if it's airgun related - they must be put in the Airgun Related Politics section..

We will not tolerate bullying or personal attacks, racism or any other offensive 'isms'. we will remove these topics from the forum, we will not give you an area where you can abuse each other. We will not hesitate to ban offenders.

Going to dip my toe into metal detracting with my lad and for the money as a startup the Ace 250 seems the best way to go. Are Crawfords reputable or are they other firms I can look at?

Yes mate crawfords are good, but take any advice with a pinch of salt from any of the dealers. I rang around a few asking which machine they would advise, between a minelab equinox 800 and the xp deus. My Dad and all the lads had the deus at the time.

One company said the equinox as it operated in multi frequencies all at the same time. The deus only one frequency at a time. I’m sure it was crawfords who advised on the deus. So, I actually made my mind up I wanted the minelab, rang crawfords as they had a better package deal. Got a few freebies. They didn’t have the minelab in stock. They basically recommended the deus as they had it in stock. I wasn’t too happy about that but we have had machines from them before and the service was fine. Just have a look around and see who does them the cheapest or who includes better items in the deal.

You could try, Regtons, Joan Allen, Mike Longfield Detectors, Spin a Disc and leisure promotions. I got my equinox from leisure promotions. Hope that helps. And you won’t go wrong with the Garrett.

No probs mate, I also seem now to remember my dad had some sort of run in with crawfords actually. When I told him what they tried to pull he did mention something. I wasnt happy they advised me wrongly just to get a sale. Or should I say biased as to what they had in stock. Just like some gun dealers.

Mine from leisure promotions arrived the day after ordering I think. Regtons are good too. If you know it’s def the Garrett you want then just order from the cheapest one I’ve mentioned.

They should be in stock somewhere, the euro ace would be slightly better as it operates on a higher frequency. Get more depth, but it costs more.

Or look on eBay for something like a nice, Tesoro tejon, laser rapier, trident, xp goldmaxx power, not the standard goldmaxx, xp adventis, one of the garrets, ace 250, 300i, AT Pro. Possibly a fisher, nokta. Loads to choose from, there is a new machine just been released, looks like an equinox a bit but it’s called a simplex I think. Made by nokta, look interesting too. Buy a copy of the metal detecting mags, The Searcher or Treasure Hunting mag. You can then see all the different machines and shops. Plus what you could find. Reviews of machines are the same as air rifle mags though, you won’t see a bad one.

It is mate, I’m not saying the more expensive machines are a lot better. But they generally have much better features. Bit like having a hw99 and say a daystate. One that works! That will start something! Basically they will both shoot pellets but one just does it better and more consistently.

A good used, xp goldmaxx power would be an ideal machine. They’re very good and can be used anywhere. Inland or beach.

Haha, I’d seriously advise on buying something used, then if you don’t take to it you can pass it on for the same as you paid. Buy something new then you will lose out. Though the equinox and deus hold used prices very well. Sometimes around a £100 or so less than new. Crazy really.

The Garrett ace 250 will be spot on new. Will get you away but d really advise on having a look for a good used xp goldmaxx power. Can be picked up from £300 ish and upwards depending on age. You would never need to upgrade from that.

Not sure if this package was ever in stock at this price. The next closest I can find is £215 for same deal.
