  3. Dear members,

Our membership (like our country) consists of people from all walks of life; different in far more ways than can be listed here and each with a different view based on their experience of life - regardless of their colour, religion or cultural heritage. Every single person in the UK has been born of mixed race – we are a multi-coloured and multi-cultural country.

As many of you are aware there are a handful of individuals amongst this membership that persist in making provocative, inflammatory, racist and otherwise offensive comments. This has been happening across the forum to a certain degree but is most especially prevalent in the Adult section.

The moderation team has tried to stay on top of this, however unfortunately because of the ‘offensive’ nature of much of its content we don’t monitor the Adult section quite as much as perhaps we should. As a result much of this behaviour has gone unnoticed unless it has been reported to us. While the team always intended to take a "light touch" approach to the Adult section it would seem that some people aren’t quite adult enough to be left unmonitored after all.

This behaviour is, and always has been against Forum Rules as well as the specific stipulations of the Adults forum and it will no longer be tolerated. We feel it's time to draw a line in the sand and as such from this point onward offenders will receive an immediate and permanent ban from the forum.

In order for us to achieve our goal of restoring the forum to the friendly and tolerant place it once was, we ask that ALL members be mindful of the content they post and help us to stop unacceptable behaviour by using the 'Report' tool at the bottom of any offending post - the results of which can be seen only by Admin/Moderators.

You should all receive a copy of this message by PM.

    Thank . for Matts Stocks!

    Hi All.

Just wondered if anyone has heard from Matt lately? I was expecting delivery of a new stock earlier this month and sent him a mail 10 days ago - but haven't heard back from him.

If anyone knows if he's on holiday, I'd be grateful for the advice.

    Thanks.

    John - AKA MR IMPATIENT!!

I've been trying to get in touch with him as I was in conversation with him. Spoke to someone to knows him, and he has apparently loads of work on the go so is a bit busy

It's not his job though, I don't think. He has 2 emails have you tried both? Also he turns a stock out once a week at very good prices.
So maybe a little slack needs to be cut for him?
He's a genuine guy, who helps out

    Less margins yes, cheap no.

This thread is going a bit south.
My experiences with him have been 1st class in every part.

I'll ask his friend if he has a phone number for you

Could have internet problems.Got a quick reply from Matt, with photos of stocks back in May.
If he is snowed under with work,he should do what some of the air rifle tuners do.Let it be known that he is taking no more orders
till he has clearded the back log.

Did you give him your phone number, or just your email??

for this sort of thing I always give both so communication is not just relied upon email!

why do you think its going south, we're all just giving our opinions are we not? its the worst thing in the world waiting for delivery of some new toy etc, a email just to update takes 2 minutes, if you ask me I think its there own faults, greedy and not being able to say they are too busy

    Hi,
The reason I felt it was going south is because we started moving onto talking about the general "from garden shed" custom stock making trade and how customer service isn't good etc.... And it puts a downer on this area.

I felt it would soon turn into a negative thread about someone who I have no affiliation with and haven't met, but have talked to and bought from several times and seems a genuine helpful person.

I have noticed replies via email have become ever slower over the past year, which is probably due to, the what seems like an increasing demand.

So I am trying to get his phone number to pass on to solve the issue and spread some light.

I think he is a member on here aswell, so I have said to his friend that it would be good to shed some light on the situation with regards to contact info.

He is a member on the Bsa forum too if anyone is on there.

I don't know all the details about the OP and the stock he is after/expecting but I thought I would give my 2p about Matt:

I host a page on my website for Matt to show off some of his work. I offered to host a page for him (for free) after he made me a very nice stock for a very reasonable price. I have never met him but I feel I have spoken to enough of his happy customers to know that I will continue hosting a page for him because he has never ripped anybody off that I know of. I believe he is still offering a very good service for a very good price, which benefits all us shooters.
Matt has a full time job (which is probably why he does not give out his phone number, he can't field enquiries all day when he is meant to be working) and a family. The stock making is a thing he does in his limited free time. He works through his list of stocks as quickly as he can without cutting corners and turning out sub standard stocks like some other stock makers do. He is popular because of the good work he does and the reasonable price he charges, this means that you have to wait if you want him to make you a stock, he does not CNC machine 100 stocks at a time, he makes each stock by hand and he is one of the few stock makers that gives you a say in how you want your stock to look, most ask you to pick one of their 3-5 designs, the type of wood and that is it.

As for the communication thing, well we could all be better if we had the time, there are 2 ways of looking at it:
Would you rather Matt be on the end of the phone/email every time you wanted to chat to him or would you rather he spend his time in the workshop making your stock?
I have just checked my site analytics, in the last 30 days there have been 813 people landing on the Matt's stocks page, that does not include the people that landed on my home page and then navigated their way to his stocks page. I am not saying every person who has visited the Matt's stocks page has sent him an email but if you work on even a small percentage of them getting in touch with Matt, then he would have a full time job replying to the emails, never mind his day job, family and actually making stocks. I know he was having issues with his laminate supplier a while back, it seems half of Europe shuts down for a few weeks in the summer, no laminate = no stocks, which is out of his control.

Cut the guy some slack, he is doing the best he can with limited amount of time he has.
Before anybody criticises Matt or anyone else they should try walking a mile in their shoes.

Thanks XTX for that advice which is extremely helpful and informative! Thanks too for the other responses.

Just for information - I have heard from Matt today.

I don't know whether that's the result of my original post and everyone's responses, or whether I would have heard today anyway. He's been open with both myself (and another guy expecting August delivery) that he's working flat-out presently.

So my idea that he may be on holiday right now seems a bit farcical! - Sorry Matt!

There are pro's and con's about not responding quickly to enquiries and with my Sales Manager's hat on I'd say it was good customer service to reply promptly.
However, with my Production Manager's hat on I know that supply chains do get hung up and that delays are often inevitable. At times it was better to delay a response until I had the full facts and an accurate forecast.

XTX is absolutely bang-on that half of Europe is closed during August and answers are simply not forthcoming.

My only concern this time was that he had always replied previously within a few days and a delay of 10 days sometimes means a problem with the e-mail, or that the recipient is away from his desk without his auto-responder switched on. Hence my original post.

Personally, I'd rather Matt was chasing suppliers and building stocks than sending out endless e-mails as we all know one reply often leads to several more questions in a game of e-mail ping pong!

In view of Matt's honesty and everything that's been said here I'm happy that Matt is busy chasing and building rather than playing Ping-Pong!

I'm also happy to wait longer than anticipated for delivery of what I believe will be an excellent product.

I apologise sincerely if my post has created a storm in a teacup and I am happy to cut the guy some slack as XTX states.

    Thanks to all and regards,

    John

ive had 2 stocks made for me by matt the last one was delivered last week. I couldn't be happier with both of them. as already said he does have trouble getting through all his emails, but I have always found him a genuine bloke who's producing a great product for a very good price. when the stock does arrive you will see just how good the product is, so in my opinion well worth the wait.

I wish that was true, I spend at least 2 hours a day responding to emails, PMs, Facebook messages and phone calls. Not many of the queries are answered with a simple/quick reply.
If you don't believe me ask my wife who gets peed off with me for always being on the phone or computer when I am not in the workshop :smash:
