1. The Forum Rules have undergone some minor changes and updates.  Please take the time to read them; it will only take a couple of minutes of your time. By doing so, you lessen the chance of incurring the wrath of the moderation team or making yourself look foolish to other members.

90% of users posting adverts in the Sales forums need to be reminded to read the rules as their posts are wrong.  This is unnecessarily time-consuming and will no longer happen - if your advert doesn't follow the Sales Rules it will be deleted and you'll have to start all over again.

  3. Dear members,

Our membership (like our country) consists of people from all walks of life; different in far more ways than can be listed here and each with a different view based on their experience of life - regardless of their colour, religion or cultural heritage. Every single person in the UK has been born of mixed race – we are a multi-coloured and multi-cultural country.

As many of you are aware there are a handful of individuals amongst this membership that persist in making provocative, inflammatory, racist and otherwise offensive comments. This has been happening across the forum to a certain degree but is most especially prevalent in the Adult section.

The moderation team has tried to stay on top of this, however unfortunately because of the ‘offensive’ nature of much of its content we don’t monitor the Adult section quite as much as perhaps we should. As a result much of this behaviour has gone unnoticed unless it has been reported to us. While the team always intended to take a "light touch" approach to the Adult section it would seem that some people aren’t quite adult enough to be left unmonitored after all.

This behaviour is, and always has been against Forum Rules as well as the specific stipulations of the Adults forum and it will no longer be tolerated. We feel it's time to draw a line in the sand and as such from this point onward offenders will receive an immediate and permanent ban from the forum.

In order for us to achieve our goal of restoring the forum to the friendly and tolerant place it once was, we ask that ALL members be mindful of the content they post and help us to stop unacceptable behaviour by using the 'Report' tool at the bottom of any offending post - the results of which can be seen only by Admin/Moderators.

You should all receive a copy of this message by PM.

If anyone is thinking of purchasing a new laptop(windows 8.1)please bear in mind that you will not be able to play DVDs on it.This is because Microsoft are no longer installing the DVD Codecs needed to play them.So unless the computer manufacture has pre installed them they won't play.So you have a choice, either buy Windows 8.1 Pro @£99.99  or install 3rd party software which you can download for free :) from www.videolan.org which I did and it works perfectly. This info might be of use to ayone who's not aware of this.

I think VLC is really now the only one to use, less fussy than most others. Patrick, how you getting on with W8. I personally hate it, its ok for smart phones and PDA's etc but for laptops I found its awful.

Netbooks, tablets, smartphones, media streaming......means a DVD isn't as essential as before. Factor in that Microsoft and their ilk have heavily ramped up their cloud based services and software by subscription, DVD isn't the direction of travel.

Personally can't stand Microsoft or Windows for that matter in any flavour now.

Are you sure Toshiba haven't installed 3rd party software for you? Most major brands used to provide some sort of DVD player and/or burning software in the XP days.

It must have some preinstalled software on it then, probably by Toshiba, but Microsoft do not install the software(codecs) on Windows 8.1 so unless the computer manufacturer installs the necessary software you need to install it otherwise DVDs won't play.

Hmmm ... my experience with W8 hasn't been very pleasing to say the least on the laptop and why the hell they didn't put the start button thingy in at the initial release I'll never know (350GB download to update to W8.1 if I remember rightly ... fine if you have ultra-fast broadband, but for those of us out in the sticks in the East of England, it took bl**dy ages !) As an OS on a touch screen machine it is much better and I guess the way that all new technology will go eventually. Give me good ol' XP anyday

350GB to update a Windows IOS? must be a typo there surely?

I think Microshite have really shot themselves in the foot with Win8, let's hope Win9 will be better otherwise I can see millions of customers defecting!

I was lucky enough to buy one of the last laptops that could be reverted to Win7 (Sony Vaio) and it still runs most of the features okay - drivers for some installed hardware were a nightmare to find and get working though!

That's not a typo ... when everyone who were the first 'victims' of W8, there was an awful lot of complaints about the new look of the OS. When MS released the upgrade to W8.1, I'm sure that the update was well over 300GB as I remember it taking so long at my steam driven connection speed
