1. The Forum Rules have undergone some minor changes and updates.  Please take the time to read them; it will only take a couple of minutes of your time. By doing so, you lessen the chance of incurring the wrath of the moderation team or making yourself look foolish to other members.

90% of users posting adverts in the Sales forums need to be reminded to read the rules as their posts are wrong.  This is unnecessarily time-consuming and will no longer happen - if your advert doesn't follow the Sales Rules it will be deleted and you'll have to start all over again.

  3. Dear members,

Our membership (like our country) consists of people from all walks of life; different in far more ways than can be listed here and each with a different view based on their experience of life - regardless of their colour, religion or cultural heritage. Every single person in the UK has been born of mixed race – we are a multi-coloured and multi-cultural country.

As many of you are aware there are a handful of individuals amongst this membership that persist in making provocative, inflammatory, racist and otherwise offensive comments. This has been happening across the forum to a certain degree but is most especially prevalent in the Adult section.

The moderation team has tried to stay on top of this, however unfortunately because of the ‘offensive’ nature of much of its content we don’t monitor the Adult section quite as much as perhaps we should. As a result much of this behaviour has gone unnoticed unless it has been reported to us. While the team always intended to take a "light touch" approach to the Adult section it would seem that some people aren’t quite adult enough to be left unmonitored after all.

This behaviour is, and always has been against Forum Rules as well as the specific stipulations of the Adults forum and it will no longer be tolerated. We feel it's time to draw a line in the sand and as such from this point onward offenders will receive an immediate and permanent ban from the forum.

In order for us to achieve our goal of restoring the forum to the friendly and tolerant place it once was, we ask that ALL members be mindful of the content they post and help us to stop unacceptable behaviour by using the 'Report' tool at the bottom of any offending post - the results of which can be seen only by Admin/Moderators.

You should all receive a copy of this message by PM.

  5. Postings on Politics, Religion & Controversial Off-Topic Material

The majority of users do not want to read about these subjects and people have left the forum as a result of it – this is after all an 'Airgun' Forum. It’s all very well to say they don’t have to read it if they don't want to, but as most of us use the ‘New Posts’ button there is no easy way to avoid it.

All AGF staff members are in favour of people being able to discuss what they want, but we have to draw the line somewhere if it is upsetting other users. We don’t want to read about these topics either.

IMPORTANT- The discussion of politics and religion is no longer allowed anywhere on the forum (including the Adult section).  The only exception is if it's airgun related - they must be put in the Airgun Related Politics section..

We will not tolerate bullying or personal attacks, racism or any other offensive 'isms'. we will remove these topics from the forum, we will not give you an area where you can abuse each other. We will not hesitate to ban offenders.

You can't legislate against evil thoughts.

It doesn’t need legislation to prevent or control evil thoughts.
People feel they become marginalised by society and they need to be made aware that they can get help and how to get it and that people do care. It’s the same with suicide prevention. Just saying good morning to strangers is a start. Beginning of.

Will there now be a "knee jerk" campaign to ban archery?

Possibly a competence test might be on the cards and registration, who knows, I remember saying to some of the guys in my archery club that I was member of years ago that I was surprised there wasn't any what so ever given how lethal they could be.

If we get an copycat incident in the UK then I can imagine the Votecatchers will be calling for compound bows on FAC.

If he was known to the police what was it for. What was his motive for doing it, did he feel marginalised in some way, was he suffering from mental health issues or did he commit the act because of believing in some twisted ideology as people who commit these crimes sometimes do. Or perhaps he is just simply a psychopath.
Marginalised or not that's no reason to go on a killing spree killing perfectly innocent strangers.

Any arrow in the air is lethal especially a 6 point broadhead. It constantly amazes me that bows and crossbows are unregulated. Even the smallest 25lb draw weight bow can put an arrow a ridiculous distance far more than our wee pellet guns. Some of the ft-lbs of these compound bows/crossbows produce is staggering. Yet walk into shop, 18 years of age, buy one, no problem. Im not for one minute suggesting we start licensing them but the disparity between bows and airgun power is unfair in my opinion. I miss my Pearson Prostaff.

Terrible incident, I hope there isn't a knee jerk reaction against bows, as we have seen in past terrorist incidents the list of potentialy lethal objects is endless. Cars, tools, kitchen knives etc. You can't legislate them all.
A friend of mine does archery and has several compound bows, I was astounded how powerful some of them are!
Years ago another friend had a crossbow that would put a bolt through a telephone directory.
But the ban everything brigade don't seem bothered because they are not scarry bang bang sticks.

I imagine these are the actions of a deranged man acting on his own. Apart from the choice of weapon, one difference to other mass murders is that he wasn't shot by the police and was unable to 'turn the gun on himself.' It might be valuable now he's in custody to see what the psychiatrists learn from him--if he's not some political extremist like Breivik, or the Australian who murdered dozens at the mosque in NZ.

Red injuns used bow and arrows for years.... wasn't big news back then... bloody media lol.

Unless we ban everything and are controlled and monitored every moment of every day with no freedom, sadly these events will continue to happen regardless of how much legislation and support people get. There will always be that one person who breaks and needless death will be the outcome

I have a couple of compound bows now, as unregulated in Kenya (although crossbows are). Nowhere near as accurate as a air rifle at 40 yards, but I can hit a man sized torso every time at that range. Arrows drop velocity very quickly, but at ‘the muzzle’, it is doing some 120 ft.lbs, even when set at 40lbs draw weight (it is variable between 40-70lbs, but 70 get tiring after 40-50 arrows!). I have to say I’m surprised the hunting arrow heads aren’t regulated, but even standard metal tips will kill…

I wouldn’t be concerned with the ramifications on archery (not to trivialise the severity of this atrocity; again in the name of an apparently beneficial and peaceful belief system).

Far more are perpetrated with vehicles and kitchen knives: and I can’t see driving or cookery being banned any time soon.

Says he's been on the Terror watch list for a while, and they're classing it as a Terror attack.

These scum will find any method of murdering innocent life's in any way possible. It's a complete failure on the law enforcements end.

I agree to an extent - but there is always a cost. Our way of life depends on a large element of trust. Take that away and they have won.

Someone starts spouting radicalism online you can prevent them becoming a terrorist by locking them up; but where do you stop?
