1. The Forum Rules have undergone some minor changes and updates.  Please take the time to read them; it will only take a couple of minutes of your time. By doing so, you lessen the chance of incurring the wrath of the moderation team or making yourself look foolish to other members.

90% of users posting adverts in the Sales forums need to be reminded to read the rules as their posts are wrong.  This is unnecessarily time-consuming and will no longer happen - if your advert doesn't follow the Sales Rules it will be deleted and you'll have to start all over again.

  3. Dear members,

Our membership (like our country) consists of people from all walks of life; different in far more ways than can be listed here and each with a different view based on their experience of life - regardless of their colour, religion or cultural heritage. Every single person in the UK has been born of mixed race – we are a multi-coloured and multi-cultural country.

As many of you are aware there are a handful of individuals amongst this membership that persist in making provocative, inflammatory, racist and otherwise offensive comments. This has been happening across the forum to a certain degree but is most especially prevalent in the Adult section.

The moderation team has tried to stay on top of this, however unfortunately because of the ‘offensive’ nature of much of its content we don’t monitor the Adult section quite as much as perhaps we should. As a result much of this behaviour has gone unnoticed unless it has been reported to us. While the team always intended to take a "light touch" approach to the Adult section it would seem that some people aren’t quite adult enough to be left unmonitored after all.

This behaviour is, and always has been against Forum Rules as well as the specific stipulations of the Adults forum and it will no longer be tolerated. We feel it's time to draw a line in the sand and as such from this point onward offenders will receive an immediate and permanent ban from the forum.

In order for us to achieve our goal of restoring the forum to the friendly and tolerant place it once was, we ask that ALL members be mindful of the content they post and help us to stop unacceptable behaviour by using the 'Report' tool at the bottom of any offending post - the results of which can be seen only by Admin/Moderators.

You should all receive a copy of this message by PM.

  5. Postings on Politics, Religion & Controversial Off-Topic Material

The majority of users do not want to read about these subjects and people have left the forum as a result of it – this is after all an 'Airgun' Forum. It’s all very well to say they don’t have to read it if they don't want to, but as most of us use the ‘New Posts’ button there is no easy way to avoid it.

All AGF staff members are in favour of people being able to discuss what they want, but we have to draw the line somewhere if it is upsetting other users. We don’t want to read about these topics either.

IMPORTANT- The discussion of politics and religion is no longer allowed anywhere on the forum (including the Adult section).  The only exception is if it's airgun related - they must be put in the Airgun Related Politics section..

We will not tolerate bullying or personal attacks, racism or any other offensive 'isms'. we will remove these topics from the forum, we will not give you an area where you can abuse each other. We will not hesitate to ban offenders.

There seems to be a turnaround in attitude towards Giles. If memory serves, it was only a few years ago when he was overwhelmed by the massive support of fellow airgunners donations, i can't remember the cause now.
Maybe what irks people is he doesn't mention he is on FXs' payroll in his videos. I don't know if he as other income/work but i doubt revenue earned from YT hits alone is enough to cover his international travelling/gallivanting costs to all these trade shows and gun fairs.
Perhaps i'm a little jealous but all the YT FX reviewers are starting to annoy me, i detest that annoying South African the most.

Actually in all fairness youtoobing is a double edged sword.
It is either an amateur hobby done for the joy of sharing your knowledge or a professional income.
That income is depending upon your hits and I can't believe it would be that high for airguns.
In the case of Giles (I'm being fair and objective here) he has crossed a threshold in his production. It would appear he does receive a form of sponsorship but he doesn't let on if his guns are gifted, loaned or a means of sponsorship. I would imagine his show visits and USA competition coverage are sponsored.
That in itself is no bad thing but normally a mention of sponsorship or association would be mentioned.
We are lead to believe he is independently wealthy enough to buy all the guns he reviews and that is the impression he gives (imo).
If that's the case good luck to him and I'm well jelly. To have a large property, any new gun you desire, press access to shooting shows and comps and an understanding wife is the stuff of dreams.
How he finds time to fit in a day job to pay for this I don't know. Maybe he's an incredibly motivated individual?
I just think that the position he has manoeuvred himself into requires more transparency for the benefit of his audience.
Also given his position he needs to be more correct with his technicalities.
He seems to enjoy playing the jolly old fat buffoon which is well and good but where is the line drawn between that of a presenter offering impartial knowledge over a broad spectrum or on behalf of select OEM's .
I don't know but I may have made my personal opinion clear previously.....

I don’t mind Giles and usually end up watching whatever video he’s made.

I am quite happy that his reviews focus on modern pcps primarily, I don’t own any springers and really have no intention of that changing. So my interest in the sport is all about newer rifles so it fits well with me.

That said I own two FX rifles and there is scope for 2 more within the next year so I am probably their prime market hah

What no springers? And what was that annoying bleep all the way through.

Im more of a traditionalist than a plastic, bullcr@p, tactical, minimalist fan. So there really wasnt anything in his vid of interest for me..

    That’s just me hehe

Got a bunch of guys who I do give a springer a try every now and then. But I don’t own one, if I did it would be a .20 HW99 that @Guloluseus had worked his magic on.

Perhaps I am just bang into his targeted audience lol

I like giles videos they have a little bit of humour with the right amount of technical info for show reviews. Who cares if he is on the FX payroll if he gets to make his videos and let us know all the new kit is out fair play to him. I'd love to shoot all these comps in the US they look good fun.

I also like hot air and Matt they also provide lots of info and keep us up to date.

He’s hard work is Giles. He puts out the videos, and it’s good that we have so many people still doing it, but he has become almost like a poor children’s entertainer.

The Springer one for example when he makes a big song and dance about pointing out he’s still holding the barrel, but he lets go of the stock to do it! Utter bell endery of the highest order.

Giles, if you are gonna patronise people, make sure YOU get it right.

And if he has a vested interest in any particular company, it should be declared. Without that declaration, his reviews lack credibility and are worthless.

At least VHTV let everyone know they are in bed with SFS.

I think what I liked about Giles was the range of stuff he reviewed. He does just seem to be banging on about fx at the moment. And yes I get that they’re pushing new stuff but I don’t really understand the whole 20 new products. Why force them all at the same time. That’s a proven recipe for ******* stuff up.
He seems to have forgotten the rest of the trade and that his viewers became fans of his because of the range of products he featured.
I’ve said before I like the bloke. But he needs to be careful or his credibility is going to leave him and he’s gonna end up looking silly.

I think FX's biggest danger at the moment is themselves. Their designers and engineers are buzzing at the moment but the American market is so huge if it really gets going they will struggle to keep up with demand.
