1. The Forum Rules have undergone some minor changes and updates.  Please take the time to read them; it will only take a couple of minutes of your time. By doing so, you lessen the chance of incurring the wrath of the moderation team or making yourself look foolish to other members.

90% of users posting adverts in the Sales forums need to be reminded to read the rules as their posts are wrong.  This is unnecessarily time-consuming and will no longer happen - if your advert doesn't follow the Sales Rules it will be deleted and you'll have to start all over again.

  3. Dear members,

Our membership (like our country) consists of people from all walks of life; different in far more ways than can be listed here and each with a different view based on their experience of life - regardless of their colour, religion or cultural heritage. Every single person in the UK has been born of mixed race – we are a multi-coloured and multi-cultural country.

As many of you are aware there are a handful of individuals amongst this membership that persist in making provocative, inflammatory, racist and otherwise offensive comments. This has been happening across the forum to a certain degree but is most especially prevalent in the Adult section.

The moderation team has tried to stay on top of this, however unfortunately because of the ‘offensive’ nature of much of its content we don’t monitor the Adult section quite as much as perhaps we should. As a result much of this behaviour has gone unnoticed unless it has been reported to us. While the team always intended to take a "light touch" approach to the Adult section it would seem that some people aren’t quite adult enough to be left unmonitored after all.

This behaviour is, and always has been against Forum Rules as well as the specific stipulations of the Adults forum and it will no longer be tolerated. We feel it's time to draw a line in the sand and as such from this point onward offenders will receive an immediate and permanent ban from the forum.

In order for us to achieve our goal of restoring the forum to the friendly and tolerant place it once was, we ask that ALL members be mindful of the content they post and help us to stop unacceptable behaviour by using the 'Report' tool at the bottom of any offending post - the results of which can be seen only by Admin/Moderators.

  5. Postings on Politics, Religion & Controversial Off-Topic Material

The majority of users do not want to read about these subjects and people have left the forum as a result of it – this is after all an 'Airgun' Forum. It’s all very well to say they don’t have to read it if they don't want to, but as most of us use the ‘New Posts’ button there is no easy way to avoid it.

All AGF staff members are in favour of people being able to discuss what they want, but we have to draw the line somewhere if it is upsetting other users. We don’t want to read about these topics either.

IMPORTANT- The discussion of politics and religion is no longer allowed anywhere on the forum (including the Adult section).  The only exception is if it's airgun related - they must be put in the Airgun Related Politics section..

We will not tolerate bullying or personal attacks, racism or any other offensive 'isms'. we will remove these topics from the forum, we will not give you an area where you can abuse each other. We will not hesitate to ban offenders.

The BSSC sells itself as THE go-to umbrella organisation to defend the shooting sports, THE go-between for the Home Office and Shooters:
    http://www.bssc.org.uk/aims/

This was the reply to a recent email by someone over on http://www.pimpmyairgun.com about what was happening with Semi-Automatic airguns and pistols:

    From: "David Penn" <djpbssc@btconnect.com>
    Date: XXXX
    Subject: RE: Feedback from bssc.org.uk
    To: XXXX

    Dear XXXX,

    Thank you for your enquiry.

This matter has not been referred to the British Shooting Sports Council, so the Council has no stance on this issue.

    With best wishes.

    David Penn
    Secretary
    British Shooting Sports Council

Note that David Penn is not only the Secretary of "your" BSSC but also a Director of GTA! Conflict of interests?
Highly irregular that the BSSC is deaf and blind to this matter?! I thought it would act without "matters being referred to them" !
Also weird that I have never heard the BSSC ever being mentioned, or seen appear, on any airgun forum I ever visited yet they seem to be the ones in constant contact with the Home Office, Police and other Nanny organisations over shooting law and shooting matters.

So "someone" has to refer it to them?

    Not really proactive are they?

    Conflicts abound!

I sometimes wonder about these shooting organisations that are supposedly looking after and safeguarding our interests.I get the impression that they're just a bunch of men and possibly women that sit around in an office somewhere on a good salary doing very little until the **** hits the fan and then they're goaded into doing something, especially if their particular shooting sport is threatened.I hope I'm wrong.

    My email to Mr Penn:-

    Dear Mr Penn

I attach .pdf file regarding the above-mentioned.

I have been informed that you have made the following statement in a reply to a question to you: -

"This matter has not been referred to the British Shooting Sports Council, so the Council has no stance on this issue".

Given that you are also a director of the GTA and given that this were discussions with the Home Office and therefore important, I find it very hard to understand why the British Shooting Sports Council is not aware of said discussions, nor about the purpose of said discussions.

My understanding is that BASC has made BSSC you aware of the discussions albeit after the event?

Given that you now have a document from the GTA, perhaps you would like to comment on the matter and let me know what you intend to do about it.

A number of us have made requests under the Freedom of Information Act 200 and therefore a clearer picture of exactly what has gone on, and with whom, should emerge.

    Yours sincerely

    Campbell Grant

I wonder who did know of this meeting and who didnt ? I hope the FOI requests turn something up so we know exactly who was there and what exactly was said .The people involved seemed to have tried to keep it very quiet, how wrong they were about that .

It'll be interesting when the result of the FOI are released, if they fail to comply then report the matter to the ICO (Infornation Commissioners Office).

I have feeling there's going to be a few people caught out from other forums when the results are received.

For anyone wishing to request information from a public body the website is 'What Do They Know' it free to use and anyone can submit a request.

Cam, edit your phone number from your post, not good in case of anti shooting data harvesting. ;)

    Hi Steve! :)

I can't edit, but I don't care anyway! If some anti wants to phone me, bring it on. I hope that my reasoning will bring said anti into the sport!

I have seen folk who have been dubious about air gun shooting to then have a smile on their face when they have managed to hit a bottle top or a 1/4" berry on a cocktail stick at 22 yards following 5 minutes of safety talk and explanation of the scope reticule.
