1. The Forum Rules have undergone some minor changes and updates.  Please take the time to read them; it will only take a couple of minutes of your time. By doing so, you lessen the chance of incurring the wrath of the moderation team or making yourself look foolish to other members.

90% of users posting adverts in the Sales forums need to be reminded to read the rules as their posts are wrong.  This is unnecessarily time-consuming and will no longer happen - if your advert doesn't follow the Sales Rules it will be deleted and you'll have to start all over again.

  3. Dear members,

Our membership (like our country) consists of people from all walks of life; different in far more ways than can be listed here and each with a different view based on their experience of life - regardless of their colour, religion or cultural heritage. Every single person in the UK has been born of mixed race – we are a multi-coloured and multi-cultural country.

As many of you are aware there are a handful of individuals amongst this membership that persist in making provocative, inflammatory, racist and otherwise offensive comments. This has been happening across the forum to a certain degree but is most especially prevalent in the Adult section.

The moderation team has tried to stay on top of this, however unfortunately because of the ‘offensive’ nature of much of its content we don’t monitor the Adult section quite as much as perhaps we should. As a result much of this behaviour has gone unnoticed unless it has been reported to us. While the team always intended to take a "light touch" approach to the Adult section it would seem that some people aren’t quite adult enough to be left unmonitored after all.

This behaviour is, and always has been against Forum Rules as well as the specific stipulations of the Adults forum and it will no longer be tolerated. We feel it's time to draw a line in the sand and as such from this point onward offenders will receive an immediate and permanent ban from the forum.

In order for us to achieve our goal of restoring the forum to the friendly and tolerant place it once was, we ask that ALL members be mindful of the content they post and help us to stop unacceptable behaviour by using the 'Report' tool at the bottom of any offending post - the results of which can be seen only by Admin/Moderators.

You should all receive a copy of this message by PM.

  5. Postings on Politics, Religion & Controversial Off-Topic Material

The majority of users do not want to read about these subjects and people have left the forum as a result of it – this is after all an 'Airgun' Forum. It’s all very well to say they don’t have to read it if they don't want to, but as most of us use the ‘New Posts’ button there is no easy way to avoid it.

All AGF staff members are in favour of people being able to discuss what they want, but we have to draw the line somewhere if it is upsetting other users. We don’t want to read about these topics either.

IMPORTANT- The discussion of politics and religion is no longer allowed anywhere on the forum (including the Adult section).  The only exception is if it's airgun related - they must be put in the Airgun Related Politics section..

We will not tolerate bullying or personal attacks, racism or any other offensive 'isms'. we will remove these topics from the forum, we will not give you an area where you can abuse each other. We will not hesitate to ban offenders.

    Hi All,

Now I'm not one for all this swooning over stars and celebrities if you see them in the street, but this afternoon I just had to go over and shake the hand of my all time sporting heros in Bluewater shopping centre Kent.

I saw a couple of giants casually walking into Clintons card shop and my eyes nearly popped out of my head when they were the worlds strongest man Brian Shaw and our great Terry Hollands..!! I've followed world strongman competitions all my life and just couldn't believe the size of these man mountains, Brian is 6' 8" and Terry 6' 6" and about 4' across the shoulders and 15" front to back...

I just had to say hello and shake the world's strongest man's hand (I didn't squeeze it too hand in case he yelped), he was the softly spoken true gentle giant you see on the tele and came across as a real warm character, not a big brash loud American that his lifestyle could have easily made. I know he's friends with Terry and is probably staying with him at his nearby Dartford home while here in the UK.

I'm a bit sick that I don't have a fancy camera phone to have captured the moment, as I know the chances of me sharing the same 6 square feet on the planet as these men again by chance is practically nil.

    Atb..........David..........

Glad you enjoyed the encounter. I'd have not known them from Adam myself.

Oddly, no one was paying any attention to them apart from their size, so maybe Strongman isn't too big in the UK. I put the current world's strongest man right up there with the fastest personally, like seeing Usain Bolt. I bet he would have been mobbed and the place would have come to a standstill though..!!

The World's Strongest Man heats and final has been part of our Christmas/New Year tele treat for most of my life. Brian won it in 2011, would have won in 2012 but got injured, then won it easily last year so he's one of the greats already but is still pretty young. Terry Hollands came third a few yeas ago.

Jools Holland lives less then a mile from me and I used to regularly see him driving to and fro past my house in a range of elaborate cars, plus on his wedding day a few years back, it was odd to see Lulu, Stephen Fry, Dawn French and Lenny Henry then Mick Hucknall pull up at the junction opposite my house, but meeting these two really made my day.......;)

I would have recognised them straight away. I have followed WSM since the days of the great John Paul Sigmarson.
I once had the pleasure of sitting next to Martin Bayfield during lunch in Ikea during the days when he was presenting WSM with Colin Bryce.

:D... He's certainly one powerful little man..!! I have wondered in the past if the tables have turned on bullies/ the bullied when they grew up, I bet there's some stories to be told...!!

Martin is even taller than Brian Shaw isn't he..? 6' 10" rings a bell. They both have great voices for the roll of presenter of WSM. When I shook hands with Brian, his hand felt like he was wearing a leather gauntlet, a life of putting your hands through hell every day..!

I got to meet Manfred Hoeberl and Jon Pall Sigmarsson at a Highland Games the year before JP passed away. Huge Men in the flesh and awesome power.

I used to love the way Jon used to raw like a lion before attempting something unbelievable, a very sad loss of a great strongman at such a young age. They put their bodies through such torture and strain though, nose bleeds are commonplace.

I remember Jouko Ahola trying to break the deadlift world record in the US and his nose bleed like a fountain:eek: If I remeber correctly he did lift it though.

I think I'd really worry for my health doing that kind of strain regularly. Do you remember the small (relatively speaking ) strongman Kevin Nee who kept passing out as the weights went up..!! That must have been cutting the supply to his brain...

Yes he was only a mere 6ft2in (tiny by strongman standards). i think he was also one of the youngest ever WSM finalists. He might as well have had the smelling salts permanently hung round his neck. What I miss most is the old steel bar bending from the 80's finals, Geoff Capes was the master of that.

The organisers do seem hell bent on injuring the finalists now which is a shame. Carrying the massive dead weights up those stairs with just a small bar handle tears their hands to bits for the rest of the event, limiting what they can really achieve.

The bar bend was a good one, as was the 'hold the car battery out at arm's length for as long as possible'. Torture or what.

Our favourite though is tossing the kegs over the high bar, quite a few struggle then someone just comes along and does all of them in about 20 seconds as if they're nothing...:)
