1. The Forum Rules have undergone some minor changes and updates.  Please take the time to read them; it will only take a couple of minutes of your time. By doing so, you lessen the chance of incurring the wrath of the moderation team or making yourself look foolish to other members.

90% of users posting adverts in the Sales forums need to be reminded to read the rules as their posts are wrong.  This is unnecessarily time-consuming and will no longer happen - if your advert doesn't follow the Sales Rules it will be deleted and you'll have to start all over again.

  3. Dear members,

Our membership (like our country) consists of people from all walks of life; different in far more ways than can be listed here and each with a different view based on their experience of life - regardless of their colour, religion or cultural heritage. Every single person in the UK has been born of mixed race – we are a multi-coloured and multi-cultural country.

As many of you are aware there are a handful of individuals amongst this membership that persist in making provocative, inflammatory, racist and otherwise offensive comments. This has been happening across the forum to a certain degree but is most especially prevalent in the Adult section.

The moderation team has tried to stay on top of this, however unfortunately because of the ‘offensive’ nature of much of its content we don’t monitor the Adult section quite as much as perhaps we should. As a result much of this behaviour has gone unnoticed unless it has been reported to us. While the team always intended to take a "light touch" approach to the Adult section it would seem that some people aren’t quite adult enough to be left unmonitored after all.

This behaviour is, and always has been against Forum Rules as well as the specific stipulations of the Adults forum and it will no longer be tolerated. We feel it's time to draw a line in the sand and as such from this point onward offenders will receive an immediate and permanent ban from the forum.

In order for us to achieve our goal of restoring the forum to the friendly and tolerant place it once was, we ask that ALL members be mindful of the content they post and help us to stop unacceptable behaviour by using the 'Report' tool at the bottom of any offending post - the results of which can be seen only by Admin/Moderators.

You should all receive a copy of this message by PM.

  5. Postings on Politics, Religion & Controversial Off-Topic Material

The majority of users do not want to read about these subjects and people have left the forum as a result of it – this is after all an 'Airgun' Forum. It’s all very well to say they don’t have to read it if they don't want to, but as most of us use the ‘New Posts’ button there is no easy way to avoid it.

All AGF staff members are in favour of people being able to discuss what they want, but we have to draw the line somewhere if it is upsetting other users. We don’t want to read about these topics either.

IMPORTANT- The discussion of politics and religion is no longer allowed anywhere on the forum (including the Adult section).  The only exception is if it's airgun related - they must be put in the Airgun Related Politics section..

We will not tolerate bullying or personal attacks, racism or any other offensive 'isms'. we will remove these topics from the forum, we will not give you an area where you can abuse each other. We will not hesitate to ban offenders.

LH and I went to my favorite guns store. Inspired by many of you, I was intending to pick up an old Webley they had in the case. The Webley was gone, purchased by "that weird guy" as one of the youngsters behind the counter told the boss.

I looked at the boss and said, "I thought I was the weird guy."

"No, you're one of the weird guys. We have others."

Anyway, perusing their vast inventory of handguns, I saw this. The classic Dirty Harry Model 29. I've had more .44s than I can remember but I've never had THE 44. Couldn't resist. Smith now makes the 29 as part of their Classics line and the fit and finish is excellent. It wouldn't be right to leave without some shoulder leather so I got a Galco classic. Walked out of the store with a fully loaded Model 29 under my arm. I was wearing a pretty tight fitting sports coat (I'm a gentleman of elegant figure, i.e. skinny) and LH said that if she didn't already know I had the hog leg under the jacket, she wouldn't have noticed the slight bulge.

Luckily for me, the indoor range is about two blocks from the shop. Once there I put about 24 rounds through the revolver. The sights were dead on the money with conventional 240 grain .44 mag SWCs. I was reminded once again why I hate .44 mag, particularly in a double action. It HURT. Nonetheless, all of 24 shots were center mass, even the double action shooting from low ready shots. I think that over the years I must have learned to flinch, cry out and whimper after the shot leaves the barrel. Three young men on the line next to me crowded around to see what the hell I was shooting. They loved it...a middle aged man with a hand cannon under his jacket. Old school.

Went to the supermarket after the range. It was sort of fun to walk around with an enormous pistol and 12 extra rounds in a shoulder holster, under a tight jacket and no one the wiser.

Don't know how much use this thing will get. Like my post about the balisong: I wonder about it's real utility. I can, and do, carry a Glock 19 all the time and forget it's even there so what's the point in several pounds of overly energetic yet under firepowered artillery in a shoulder rig. No point really. Other than it's a classic and I can do what I want.

Oh, that apparent scratch running longitudinally along the cylinder isn't a scratch. Photo artifact.

Hiram, can you just walk into a gun store on a whim and buy a handgun the same day? I thought that was only in Virginia.
    Nice hog-leg. Very envious!

Yes, you can just walk in and buy it. You have to fill out a one page form of yes/no questions (Are you a fugitive from justice? Are you under indictment for a felony or a crime of domestic violence?), the gun store calls the criminal justice center, and, when your info returns as no felony convictions, no adjudicated mental health issues and no domestic violence...Bob's your uncle and off you go with a brand new pistol. Some few states have a waiting period but Nevada isn't one of those. My criminal justice check returned long before I had the shoulder holster adjusted to fit. Usually takes about 10 minutes before you're slapping the debit card down and walking to the truck with your new purchase.

Just got rid of my .44 mag Taurus Raging Bull, even at nearly 4 pounds it was horrible to shoot, wouldn't fancy shooting a lot through a model 29!

Thanks for the reply, Hiram. That pistol is going to cost a lot more to run than an air rifle!

It's still technically November. No where near the 12 days of Christmas... So there's a Christmas present to be had yet :)
