  3. Dear members,

Our membership (like our country) consists of people from all walks of life; different in far more ways than can be listed here and each with a different view based on their experience of life - regardless of their colour, religion or cultural heritage. Every single person in the UK has been born of mixed race – we are a multi-coloured and multi-cultural country.

As many of you are aware there are a handful of individuals amongst this membership that persist in making provocative, inflammatory, racist and otherwise offensive comments. This has been happening across the forum to a certain degree but is most especially prevalent in the Adult section.

The moderation team has tried to stay on top of this, however unfortunately because of the ‘offensive’ nature of much of its content we don’t monitor the Adult section quite as much as perhaps we should. As a result much of this behaviour has gone unnoticed unless it has been reported to us. While the team always intended to take a "light touch" approach to the Adult section it would seem that some people aren’t quite adult enough to be left unmonitored after all.

This behaviour is, and always has been against Forum Rules as well as the specific stipulations of the Adults forum and it will no longer be tolerated. We feel it's time to draw a line in the sand and as such from this point onward offenders will receive an immediate and permanent ban from the forum.

In order for us to achieve our goal of restoring the forum to the friendly and tolerant place it once was, we ask that ALL members be mindful of the content they post and help us to stop unacceptable behaviour by using the 'Report' tool at the bottom of any offending post - the results of which can be seen only by Admin/Moderators.

  5. Postings on Politics, Religion & Controversial Off-Topic Material

The majority of users do not want to read about these subjects and people have left the forum as a result of it – this is after all an 'Airgun' Forum. It’s all very well to say they don’t have to read it if they don't want to, but as most of us use the ‘New Posts’ button there is no easy way to avoid it.

All AGF staff members are in favour of people being able to discuss what they want, but we have to draw the line somewhere if it is upsetting other users. We don’t want to read about these topics either.

IMPORTANT- The discussion of politics and religion is no longer allowed anywhere on the forum (including the Adult section).  The only exception is if it's airgun related - they must be put in the Airgun Related Politics section..

We will not tolerate bullying or personal attacks, racism or any other offensive 'isms'. we will remove these topics from the forum, we will not give you an area where you can abuse each other. We will not hesitate to ban offenders.

    Hi all,

Great forum! I've been looking around here for a while now for useful tips and tricks on ratting, which so far have worked a treat so thanks to those who posted their top tips!

So my weapon of choice... And I'll come clean as I quite like the little gun as it dispatches rats quite nicely (from close range), despite some reports that it doesn't... Umarex Beretta cx4 177 co2

Now before I get flammed, I brought it as a garden tin can plinker in the summer for a bit of fun with my nephew, not a rat dispatcher. I love the 30 pellet mag and semi-auto functionality which seems unique on the market. Now I know I can spend £300 - £600 on a Logun or Airarms which look like fine rifles, but before I chuck that kind of investment into what is right now a bit of fun helping out the mother in law, I wondered if anyone knew a place that can upgrade power on co2 rifles? I've had a scan on the net but found nothing also no DIY tips on how to do it yourself. BTW I do not want it to exceed the legal limit and I am aware the power is affected by temperature.

Anyone on here got any ideas? Oh and before it is suggested I'll go get a decent PCP rifle at some stage in the future :)

    Cheers all!

    Welcome to the forum Blimey.

Funnily enough I never mentioned it on this forum either for fear of being flamed as I'm quite new also. I too have the Beretta Cx4 storm with the bipod and the silencer as I just love to plink cans and in my opinion it is the ultimate plinking machine:up:. I also like the beretta scope that came with it and the hard case - bipod is crappy though.

The 30 round mag is what made me buy it and it is great fun altogether.

Although I do find that I tend to shoot the 30 mag faster plinking cans left right and centre than I do with the 8 round mag on my umarex 850 airmagnum:D

I don't find it very accurate though, groupings on targets are all over the place despite everything I've tried to improve it. If you can group 5 rounds on a 1p piece at 30m I'd love to know how with this .177 rifle.

Ahh I thought I was the only one!! <phew>

I found the accuracy improved a little by adding a few drops of oil into the pellet tin and giving it a good shake to coat the pellets before loading them up, got better grouping at 20m after doing that. Also, not sure if it is luck or not but using 10grain pellets in hot weather seems to improve it a little as well (more power from warmer weather and more weight could be the helping factor), but that might just be me!

I agree the accuracy is disappointing mind you, fine for cans at 30m but you'd not get a reliable kill shot (or even hit) on a rat at that range. Luckly the environment I am shooting rats in is quite enclosed so 15m shots are fine and the accuracy can be compensated by a good blast on the trigger if your shot fluffs up.

I got the Airmagnum silencer on it, 4 x32 scope with high mounts so the eye piece of the scope sits over the back peep hole sight, a front grip handle/ bipod and a lamping light/ laser on the scope... . Seems to do the job but I am getting hooked on this hunting lark!

How do you find the air magnum? heard they can have their power upgraded somewhat...

</phew>Thanks for that! I'll definitely try out what you suggested to improve groupings, I wish a relative of mine in Belgium had a rat problem:D I don't hunt but will be putting my 1st PCP to the test with a horde of magpies round my mother-in-laws house this weekend...all going well.

As for the air magnum it is my current gun of choice, I have a walther 3-12x50 scope on it and it is extremely accurate (with sights I tested to 15mapprox or scope - 40mapprox), not at all pellet fussy and I use it on paper targets and coke bottle lids out to 40m. There are two videos on youtube about it, link to the first one is this or just look up Paul Capello (on second thought I think Andy has posted this link on the gun review section). I don't have anything negative on it, all-in-all its a great gun but I think you'd be better going for something with more power if you want to hunt...although it depends on the size of your quarry too.

I've a diana 25 (mother-in-law donation), gamo cfx, the 850 and Cx4 with 3 CO2 pistols to boot(I'd love to use my beretta on a rat at 10m)

getting a 'new' airwolf this weekend as my first PCP, will post up pics of the lot when I get the PCP.

I'd be curious to know what the laser on your Cx4 is like...

forgot to say, I didn't put high mounts but simply sanded down the rear sight block, found the plastic sights or whatever they are made of really crap...poor design from the begining if the supplied scope doesn't slide all the way back on the rail.

its a brilliant gun for plinking cans and I'd imagine dealing with rats at close range also but it doesn't have, in my mind, the accuracy to humanely dispatch bigger quarry at a greater distance.

Increasing the power of the rifle is of no use if you don't have accuracy.

I didn't know you could alter the power of a CO2 rifle, might ask this guy in Holland to take a look cos he sells the 850.
