1. The Forum Rules have undergone some minor changes and updates.  Please take the time to read them; it will only take a couple of minutes of your time. By doing so, you lessen the chance of incurring the wrath of the moderation team or making yourself look foolish to other members.

90% of users posting adverts in the Sales forums need to be reminded to read the rules as their posts are wrong.  This is unnecessarily time-consuming and will no longer happen - if your advert doesn't follow the Sales Rules it will be deleted and you'll have to start all over again.

  3. Dear members,

Our membership (like our country) consists of people from all walks of life; different in far more ways than can be listed here and each with a different view based on their experience of life - regardless of their colour, religion or cultural heritage. Every single person in the UK has been born of mixed race – we are a multi-coloured and multi-cultural country.

As many of you are aware there are a handful of individuals amongst this membership that persist in making provocative, inflammatory, racist and otherwise offensive comments. This has been happening across the forum to a certain degree but is most especially prevalent in the Adult section.

The moderation team has tried to stay on top of this, however unfortunately because of the ‘offensive’ nature of much of its content we don’t monitor the Adult section quite as much as perhaps we should. As a result much of this behaviour has gone unnoticed unless it has been reported to us. While the team always intended to take a "light touch" approach to the Adult section it would seem that some people aren’t quite adult enough to be left unmonitored after all.

This behaviour is, and always has been against Forum Rules as well as the specific stipulations of the Adults forum and it will no longer be tolerated. We feel it's time to draw a line in the sand and as such from this point onward offenders will receive an immediate and permanent ban from the forum.

In order for us to achieve our goal of restoring the forum to the friendly and tolerant place it once was, we ask that ALL members be mindful of the content they post and help us to stop unacceptable behaviour by using the 'Report' tool at the bottom of any offending post - the results of which can be seen only by Admin/Moderators.

You should all receive a copy of this message by PM.

  5. Postings on Politics, Religion & Controversial Off-Topic Material

The majority of users do not want to read about these subjects and people have left the forum as a result of it – this is after all an 'Airgun' Forum. It’s all very well to say they don’t have to read it if they don't want to, but as most of us use the ‘New Posts’ button there is no easy way to avoid it.

All AGF staff members are in favour of people being able to discuss what they want, but we have to draw the line somewhere if it is upsetting other users. We don’t want to read about these topics either.

IMPORTANT- The discussion of politics and religion is no longer allowed anywhere on the forum (including the Adult section).  The only exception is if it's airgun related - they must be put in the Airgun Related Politics section..

We will not tolerate bullying or personal attacks, racism or any other offensive 'isms'. we will remove these topics from the forum, we will not give you an area where you can abuse each other. We will not hesitate to ban offenders.

Someone selling a rifle on a local sales forum was asked a few questions she could not answer. I posted a few details about what she had with a few points about using an air rifle responsibly and a few essential legal bits for both buyer and seller ie age , below 12lbft non fac etc. I was then hit with a tirade from a young airgun expert who informed me the law only applies in your garden. Apparently if you are on private land with the owners consent you can shoot what you like and the police can`t touch you, "otherwise how could farmers shoot rabbits with a shotgun ?". The seller decided to go with the expert and block my post. No wonder we get a bad press.

More bad press HERE too, from my local rag.

With regards to your post, the internet is full of people who know better, and they're usually younger or much less experienced...yet still claim to know better.
Pi$$es me off and keeps me from being too much of a conversationalist (if there ever was such a word).

I can't even begin to express my dismay at people that do this. You could hand someone all the info in the world but if they are unwilling to take it in because it doesn't fit their world views they just will dismiss it. Personally I would send them links to threads, pages and articles with the law as it is and point out to them it doesn't mean jack what some numpty youth on the net says.

I spent twenty years in computer education at all levels and yet I even get occasions when family members would rather listen to what "John" or whoever down the pub has told them. I really don't know why it still frustrates me.

i think all owners of airguns have a duty of care in there sale of there guns and if they are used for bad things ie injuring people or property they should be held to account for selling to unsavory types as well as the person using the gun

Unfortunately you can't take stupid out of human nature.
Somewhere down the line these kind of people will be bitten on the bum and will hopefully realise their mistakes but there isn't a lot we can do about it if they don't.

Yeah, I have been an admin on a few facebook gun groups. Some folk will never listen.
I've had my fair share of violent threats via private message too.

That opens up a can of worms though.
Who are we to judge a character...and on the other side of the coin how do we know the person coming to buy the rifle isn't putting on a front?

My colleague bought an Air Rifle from a shop. He's in his late 40's, looks perfectly normal/OK, wears a shirt and trousers to work (I say this as I know he bought it in Work's time:rolleyes:) and has a nice (company) car.
He bought the Air Rifle and has been shooting it from his bedroom window killing birds on neighbouring roofs, parking up in layby's and shooting it randomly at stuff.

Then there's me, Mr Average. Almost shaved head and a crappy beard, went to the shop in jeans and a polo shirt, had a white van at the time...registered as a full member with BASC and haven't taken 1 single illegal shot.

I agree with you that unsavoury types shouldn't be allowed to own/purchase any kind of weapon, but if I had sold it to my colleague (on face value without knowing what a muppet he is) I would be a little cheesed off to be held accountable for his muppetry.

I agree that we shouldn't be held responsible in a court of law but as a seller I personally believe you have to make some sort of judgement calling selling f2f (if you can, not always possible) from working in a RFD for 3 years I have refused several sales of airguns rightly or wrongly and after talking to my boss. Most of the times they were under the influence or had been talking about shooting the neighbours pets or something even after explain explaining the laws around airguns.. Just my ten pence worth..
