1. The Forum Rules have undergone some minor changes and updates.  Please take the time to read them; it will only take a couple of minutes of your time. By doing so, you lessen the chance of incurring the wrath of the moderation team or making yourself look foolish to other members.

90% of users posting adverts in the Sales forums need to be reminded to read the rules as their posts are wrong.  This is unnecessarily time-consuming and will no longer happen - if your advert doesn't follow the Sales Rules it will be deleted and you'll have to start all over again.

  3. Dear members,

Our membership (like our country) consists of people from all walks of life; different in far more ways than can be listed here and each with a different view based on their experience of life - regardless of their colour, religion or cultural heritage. Every single person in the UK has been born of mixed race – we are a multi-coloured and multi-cultural country.

As many of you are aware there are a handful of individuals amongst this membership that persist in making provocative, inflammatory, racist and otherwise offensive comments. This has been happening across the forum to a certain degree but is most especially prevalent in the Adult section.

The moderation team has tried to stay on top of this, however unfortunately because of the ‘offensive’ nature of much of its content we don’t monitor the Adult section quite as much as perhaps we should. As a result much of this behaviour has gone unnoticed unless it has been reported to us. While the team always intended to take a "light touch" approach to the Adult section it would seem that some people aren’t quite adult enough to be left unmonitored after all.

This behaviour is, and always has been against Forum Rules as well as the specific stipulations of the Adults forum and it will no longer be tolerated. We feel it's time to draw a line in the sand and as such from this point onward offenders will receive an immediate and permanent ban from the forum.

In order for us to achieve our goal of restoring the forum to the friendly and tolerant place it once was, we ask that ALL members be mindful of the content they post and help us to stop unacceptable behaviour by using the 'Report' tool at the bottom of any offending post - the results of which can be seen only by Admin/Moderators.

You should all receive a copy of this message by PM.

  5. Postings on Politics, Religion & Controversial Off-Topic Material

The majority of users do not want to read about these subjects and people have left the forum as a result of it – this is after all an 'Airgun' Forum. It’s all very well to say they don’t have to read it if they don't want to, but as most of us use the ‘New Posts’ button there is no easy way to avoid it.

All AGF staff members are in favour of people being able to discuss what they want, but we have to draw the line somewhere if it is upsetting other users. We don’t want to read about these topics either.

IMPORTANT- The discussion of politics and religion is no longer allowed anywhere on the forum (including the Adult section).  The only exception is if it's airgun related - they must be put in the Airgun Related Politics section..

We will not tolerate bullying or personal attacks, racism or any other offensive 'isms'. we will remove these topics from the forum, we will not give you an area where you can abuse each other. We will not hesitate to ban offenders.

I took my old .22 BSA Mercury to Otmoors gun shop today to have it looked over as it has been up in the loft for a long while. No problem he said new spring, washers etc £75 and it will be like new. [IMG] Great I said thinking how many rabbits will meet there end with this rifle. Then the dream went pop.Hang on a minute he said lets check the barrel it does not look right.I was right he said the barrels bent. [IMG] With a new barrel it would not be cost efective as I could buy a new BSA Supersport for £175. [IMG] Its ok saying buy a new rifle but money is tight at the moment and I know nothing about the BSA Supersport at all so I said I will think about it.So what do I do now save some more money and get the BSA Supersport Or try and get a decent secondhand gun? I still have not looked for anywhere to shoot yet as I was waiting to find out about the Mercury.I realy want to start up again but I am so gutted that I do not know what to do now. [IMG]
Sorry about the sob story but I had to tell someone.Bob

If the barrel is only slightly bent you can bend them back, any gun smith should be able to sort it out, or you can do it yourself just put the barrel between two surfaces and whack it back, that's all most gun smiths would do.
Sounds to me like they just want to sell you a new gun, is the gun working ok, if so just get it tested to see what it's power is at.
As long as there are no broken parts and no side to side slack in the barrel it may only need a new main spring £10, breech seal and piston washer (couple a pound) if the power is down.
You could do it yourself for around £20 just buy the parts a fit them.

I wouldnt try "whacking" it back!.
Whack it to hard and you knacker the rifling inside!

Even a bent barrel should still fire ok as the exit point still remains constant.
The problem you will have is zeroing in your baby. You may probably have to shim your scope to account for the bend but otherwise it wont be noticable over 20-30yards.

Put out an add and see if you can find a second hand one for spareparts. I'm sure there are others sitting in attics waiting for a use!:)

"Whacking" it doesn't sound very precise, and yes it does sound like they're trying to sell you a new rifle but to be honest the Supersport is a great gun, probably one of the best sellers of all time - you can't go wrong.

Just took the gun to AdenbourneFieldSports. He gave it a good look over and said that the barrel is ok no bend  .The seals are ok it just needs the barrel to have a bit of a clean which I could do myself. He even took it round the back and fired a pellet through it.He said there is nothing wrong with that it just put a pellet through a pallet. He even bench zeroed the scope for me to see if it was ok.Guess who is going to get my business from now on.So there is life in the old girl yet. :D Now I have just got to find somewhere to shoot.
Many Thanks for all your replys.Bob :D

    Bent barrel

Good for you Badger, you've got a good gun there. If you ever do need to straighten a barrel, a whack is what it takes! Use a big vice , leather or wood padding , a lead or copper hammer and a straight edge to check after each careful bash. I had to do it to an HW 57 once. The secret of airgun repairs etc. is not to panic or hurry. Take your time, study the problem and ask for advice on the forum!! Good luck. Mick.

...or, if you're afraid of hitting a bent barrel, sell the gun to a fairground ;-) (gives punters less chance of winning a teddy!)

Seriously though, glad you got the gun working ok....you could have even considered binning it on what that shop told you... :-(
