Some might have noticed that I hadn't been present much on the forum over the last few months, this has been down to the stress of the last 12 months finally getting to me, and particularly what happened after last summer, I felt myself spiraling into a depression trying to cope with all the crap that we were constantly bombarded with, I'd like to apologise to anyone on the forum If I've inadvertently offended you with my behaviour and attitude at times.

Many will know that we nearly lost our daughter Stephanie last summer to a severe seizure / re-flux / aspiration / pneumonia event which led to complications of MRSA and C-Diff. This went on to happen again another 3 times up until just after Christmas (which we still haven't celebrated properly yet), she was very poorly and was fast tracked for emergency surgery but it couldn't be attempted until yesterday as she was just too weak, it nearly never went ahead due to very bad seizures again yesterday morning and a specialist team from around the UK was assembled to work on her so she was last into theatre.

She had 4 1/2 hours of reconstructive surgery last evening to perform a Nissen Fundoplication which is a procedure that helps stop acid re-flux by wrapping the lower end of the esophagus, this should help stop her aspirating and drowning on her own stomach contents in the future.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissen_fundoplication

She has also been fitted with a feed button directly into her stomach to negate the need for a nasal (NG) feed tube which should also be of benefit to help with the re-flux issue.

The surgery went well and she's currently recovering, we have to have some intensive training with the button feed system now as essentially she has an opening directly into her stomach that needs to be cared for and such. I really don't like the prospect of this but I've got to pull my big boy pants on.

Some of you message me on a regular basis and offer support, I thought it would be easier and quicker to post an update here, I'd also just like to reaffirm my thanks to everyone that has supported us, you're a great bunch of guys!

The iPad that you guys generously helped fund is being put to good use in keeping us in contact and Emma's sanity intact (Netflix) while twiddling her thumbs, thanks again to everyone who kindly donated... I won't forget you! :)

    Best regards

    Steve & Family.

Steve, no need to apologise to anyone on here. I think some of the longer serving members and most others know the stuff you have been having to deal with. It's good news that Stephanie seems to be on the mend now, hopefully give the rest of you some time to yourselves also.

Glad the eye patch is working well.

Good luck to all of you and keep signing in here for some sanity .... or maybe not as the case my be

Steve, you have nothing to apologize for for Christ's sake. We all know what's been going on and our thoughts and prayers are with you all, especially Stephanie. You and Mrs SteveO must remain strong and focused.
Good luck to all in your household mate.

Chin up Steve. Good to see the the iPad was useful. I hope all goes as well as can be expected with the operation, and that you cope OK with the aftercare.

Anyone you may have inadvertently upset can go do one as far as I'm concerned Steve as doubt that they are aware of your circumstances and the near loss of Steph last year ! It can't have been easy yesterday evening either, but she has come out the other side with a positive prognosis for any potential seizure-related aspirations. Steph is an absolute cutie and obviously has an inner strength that few of us on here have, that also extends to you and your family mate.

Onwards and upwards and let's hope you finally get to celebrate Christmas in style :)

    ATB, Mark and Helen.

We've applied Ryan as she is now officially 'drug resistant' in regards to epilepsy, there are some trials going on for children and youngsters with a different disorder, the doctors have said they will try and get her into the programme but are doubtful she'll be accepted.

There are other medical trials we're going to try also.

Thanks for the support everyone, I feel a lot more positive today, you've lifted me.

All the best to you and yours and hopefully the op will help your daughter. Always welcome on here to let off steam or just chew the fat or just take the Michael...
