1. The Forum Rules have undergone some minor changes and updates.  Please take the time to read them; it will only take a couple of minutes of your time. By doing so, you lessen the chance of incurring the wrath of the moderation team or making yourself look foolish to other members.

90% of users posting adverts in the Sales forums need to be reminded to read the rules as their posts are wrong.  This is unnecessarily time-consuming and will no longer happen - if your advert doesn't follow the Sales Rules it will be deleted and you'll have to start all over again.

  3. Dear members,

Our membership (like our country) consists of people from all walks of life; different in far more ways than can be listed here and each with a different view based on their experience of life - regardless of their colour, religion or cultural heritage. Every single person in the UK has been born of mixed race – we are a multi-coloured and multi-cultural country.

As many of you are aware there are a handful of individuals amongst this membership that persist in making provocative, inflammatory, racist and otherwise offensive comments. This has been happening across the forum to a certain degree but is most especially prevalent in the Adult section.

The moderation team has tried to stay on top of this, however unfortunately because of the ‘offensive’ nature of much of its content we don’t monitor the Adult section quite as much as perhaps we should. As a result much of this behaviour has gone unnoticed unless it has been reported to us. While the team always intended to take a "light touch" approach to the Adult section it would seem that some people aren’t quite adult enough to be left unmonitored after all.

This behaviour is, and always has been against Forum Rules as well as the specific stipulations of the Adults forum and it will no longer be tolerated. We feel it's time to draw a line in the sand and as such from this point onward offenders will receive an immediate and permanent ban from the forum.

In order for us to achieve our goal of restoring the forum to the friendly and tolerant place it once was, we ask that ALL members be mindful of the content they post and help us to stop unacceptable behaviour by using the 'Report' tool at the bottom of any offending post - the results of which can be seen only by Admin/Moderators.

You should all receive a copy of this message by PM.

I've got a good relationship with a local gamekeeper on a big estate and he's agreed to give me his deer carcasses for our dogs, after he's taken all the main cuts, so i got the first last night and after butchering it have a lovely deerskin.

I've always thought it disrespectful to shoot animals and not use as much of them as possible, so it kills me to think of throwing it away but i don't have the gear or the time to do anything with it, i'm based near Twyford/Maidenhead and would be willing to travel a sensible distance to meet someone.

It's from small doe i think and about two feet square (give or take) it has the entrance and exit holes but it'd make some lovely pelts for someone who has tanning gear and more time than me.

Anyone interested give me a PM

Yep, I have done a few sheep skins and I am equipped to to cure just about any skins. Firstly though, have you salted it? If not, then it needs doing as soon as possible. When was it shot? If more than 24 hours ago, it may already be too late to get a quality cure, but should still be usable.
To salt it, lay it out fur side down and completely cover the flesh side with salt. Then fold it in half (side to side and flesh to flesh) so no fur is in contact with the flesh side. Next, roll it up quite tightly and use some string to keep it all together. It should last like this for months if enough salt was used. I use rock salt as its cheap and better than table salt, but table salt will do the job for a week or two anyway.
If you are prepared to post it, and any more you get, I will gladly have them off you. I haven't had chance to do a deer yet. Of course, I will pay the postage.

I currently have two deerskins available, both does and both about the same size, currently unsalted and in the freezer in bags.

A chap was supposed to be coming and getting one but i've not heard from him, and the other is fresh today.

They probably won't be good for making pelts, as the deer are losing their winter coats so the fur is coming out in clumps, but with a bit of work they'd make some lovely leather.

They are free to a good home but if they're to be posted you'll have to cover that (it was about £8 last time i sent one)

    Anyone interested please pm me.

I've been talking to a place that sells tanning stuff, so am in the process of deciding whether it's worth me spending a bit of cash and doing them myself to sell on as fully tanned pelts or leather, seeing as i have a workshop where i can do it.

How many of you would be interested in buying a full pelt or deerskin leather? and what are they worth?
