1. The Forum Rules have undergone some minor changes and updates.  Please take the time to read them; it will only take a couple of minutes of your time. By doing so, you lessen the chance of incurring the wrath of the moderation team or making yourself look foolish to other members.

90% of users posting adverts in the Sales forums need to be reminded to read the rules as their posts are wrong.  This is unnecessarily time-consuming and will no longer happen - if your advert doesn't follow the Sales Rules it will be deleted and you'll have to start all over again.

  3. Dear members,

Our membership (like our country) consists of people from all walks of life; different in far more ways than can be listed here and each with a different view based on their experience of life - regardless of their colour, religion or cultural heritage. Every single person in the UK has been born of mixed race – we are a multi-coloured and multi-cultural country.

As many of you are aware there are a handful of individuals amongst this membership that persist in making provocative, inflammatory, racist and otherwise offensive comments. This has been happening across the forum to a certain degree but is most especially prevalent in the Adult section.

The moderation team has tried to stay on top of this, however unfortunately because of the ‘offensive’ nature of much of its content we don’t monitor the Adult section quite as much as perhaps we should. As a result much of this behaviour has gone unnoticed unless it has been reported to us. While the team always intended to take a "light touch" approach to the Adult section it would seem that some people aren’t quite adult enough to be left unmonitored after all.

This behaviour is, and always has been against Forum Rules as well as the specific stipulations of the Adults forum and it will no longer be tolerated. We feel it's time to draw a line in the sand and as such from this point onward offenders will receive an immediate and permanent ban from the forum.

In order for us to achieve our goal of restoring the forum to the friendly and tolerant place it once was, we ask that ALL members be mindful of the content they post and help us to stop unacceptable behaviour by using the 'Report' tool at the bottom of any offending post - the results of which can be seen only by Admin/Moderators.

You should all receive a copy of this message by PM.

  5. Postings on Politics, Religion & Controversial Off-Topic Material

The majority of users do not want to read about these subjects and people have left the forum as a result of it – this is after all an 'Airgun' Forum. It’s all very well to say they don’t have to read it if they don't want to, but as most of us use the ‘New Posts’ button there is no easy way to avoid it.

All AGF staff members are in favour of people being able to discuss what they want, but we have to draw the line somewhere if it is upsetting other users. We don’t want to read about these topics either.

IMPORTANT- The discussion of politics and religion is no longer allowed anywhere on the forum (including the Adult section).  The only exception is if it's airgun related - they must be put in the Airgun Related Politics section..

We will not tolerate bullying or personal attacks, racism or any other offensive 'isms'. we will remove these topics from the forum, we will not give you an area where you can abuse each other. We will not hesitate to ban offenders.

I am looking to upgrade to a higher power air rifle but will obviously need to obtain a Fire Arms Certificate. What is the likelyhood of being accepted ?

As far as character I have no problem I am sure, I currently shoot on about 20+ acres but am looking for more.

Any info, comments, etc would be appreciated as I do not want to go through the process if it is unlikely to be fruitful:confused:

:up:Thanks for the comments although I found them rather mixed !

Had a look at the links, first one I could see nothing relevant to me and the second I am not a member of so don't have access.

For those new to the sport (inc. me) I would have hoped that you experienced gunners would have been able to supply some REAL helpful information on this VERY important and difficult subject !!!:(:(:(

Well all areas are different, if you phone your local police, ask them for the phone number of the firearms department, in your local firearms officer (FAO) will tell you what is needed in, YOUR area.

Exactly what information are you looking for..?

    You will need land

    You will need a safe

    You will need references

You will need to tell of any convictions even motoring offences.

They may check with your doctor to see if you have any history of depression.

As i don't have or ever want an FAC airgun (two many restrictions IMHO) i am not able to advice you any further. :D

    Andy thanks for info.

I suppose I just wanted to have some idea from you EXPERIENCED air gunners of what to expect, maybe even some pointers on making sure you are in a position to go for a FAC.

Basically anything that will help me and I am sure A LOT of other newcomers to the sport.:)

Don't know much about it myself only what ive read on the net, but it does seem to differ depending on your area.
You can download an application form from one police force and look through that, should give you all the info you need as it tells you everything that's required. http://www.essex.police.uk/services/s_fa_02.php

Don't think so, as that same form is used for applying for a variation as well, so it is asking what FAC guns you already have.

Obviously you and your brother have a good relationship:rolleyes::D

Good luck with your FAC quest:up:

I advise you look for a safe spot to put the safe so its out of the way as it will need to be bolted to the floor/wall.

The boss of the house may get anoyed with the new permanent fixture:D

When I applied for my FAC for a .22 rimfire I ensured that I had written permission from two land -owners, whose land I knew was already cleared for up to .243 rifles. giving me permission to use a .22 rimfire, with expanding ammunition, for PEST CONTROL (the pest control part is important on the application. You obviously won't need the bit about expanding ammunition, but get them to mention in their written permission that they require someone with an FAC rated air-rifle to carry out pest control, and get them to put a reason, local residents, noise levels, don't want to cause a disturbance to locals etc etc.
Once you have your permission, find out about cabinets, where you can get one, how much, how long for delivery etc. Thye more research you've done when you apply, the more your local PLOD will treat your application positively. If you have children in your house, or regularly leave the place empty (no-one at home during the wek days due to work etc) I would opt for putting the cabinet in the loft. There's pro's and con's for the loft; the possibility of damp being the biggest problem. I've got mine in the loft, and have three shotguns, a .22 rimfire and my PCP in it. I check them regularly and give them a clean, whether they need it or not. I've also got a tray of silica gel in the bottom of the cabinet to keep any moisture at bay.
Depending on your usage intent, I wouldn't bother applying for a .22 rimfire and a .17HMR unless you have permission and access to land cleared for them, and fully intend buying rifles of this type in the near future. An application for a FAC air-rifle, with decent clear explan ation why you require one is going to be looked at more favourably than one for a complete arsenal....
You may also need to say how much ammunition you intend holding at any opnme time, and how much you will require to be able to buy. I know you do for .22 rimfire ammo, but not sure for FAC air-rifle, as the pellets will be the same as a non FAC within reason. As a guide, I applied to hold 1500 and purchase 1000.
Good Luck, let us know how you get on.
By the way; if you are successful, don't panic when you see that you have a Police National Computer referrence number - this is only for data recording purposes, and not something that you'd have to declare for job applications etc.
