1. The Forum Rules have undergone some minor changes and updates.  Please take the time to read them; it will only take a couple of minutes of your time. By doing so, you lessen the chance of incurring the wrath of the moderation team or making yourself look foolish to other members.

90% of users posting adverts in the Sales forums need to be reminded to read the rules as their posts are wrong.  This is unnecessarily time-consuming and will no longer happen - if your advert doesn't follow the Sales Rules it will be deleted and you'll have to start all over again.

  3. Dear members,

Our membership (like our country) consists of people from all walks of life; different in far more ways than can be listed here and each with a different view based on their experience of life - regardless of their colour, religion or cultural heritage. Every single person in the UK has been born of mixed race – we are a multi-coloured and multi-cultural country.

As many of you are aware there are a handful of individuals amongst this membership that persist in making provocative, inflammatory, racist and otherwise offensive comments. This has been happening across the forum to a certain degree but is most especially prevalent in the Adult section.

The moderation team has tried to stay on top of this, however unfortunately because of the ‘offensive’ nature of much of its content we don’t monitor the Adult section quite as much as perhaps we should. As a result much of this behaviour has gone unnoticed unless it has been reported to us. While the team always intended to take a "light touch" approach to the Adult section it would seem that some people aren’t quite adult enough to be left unmonitored after all.

This behaviour is, and always has been against Forum Rules as well as the specific stipulations of the Adults forum and it will no longer be tolerated. We feel it's time to draw a line in the sand and as such from this point onward offenders will receive an immediate and permanent ban from the forum.

In order for us to achieve our goal of restoring the forum to the friendly and tolerant place it once was, we ask that ALL members be mindful of the content they post and help us to stop unacceptable behaviour by using the 'Report' tool at the bottom of any offending post - the results of which can be seen only by Admin/Moderators.

You should all receive a copy of this message by PM.

  5. Postings on Politics, Religion & Controversial Off-Topic Material

The majority of users do not want to read about these subjects and people have left the forum as a result of it – this is after all an 'Airgun' Forum. It’s all very well to say they don’t have to read it if they don't want to, but as most of us use the ‘New Posts’ button there is no easy way to avoid it.

All AGF staff members are in favour of people being able to discuss what they want, but we have to draw the line somewhere if it is upsetting other users. We don’t want to read about these topics either.

IMPORTANT- The discussion of politics and religion is no longer allowed anywhere on the forum (including the Adult section).  The only exception is if it's airgun related - they must be put in the Airgun Related Politics section..

We will not tolerate bullying or personal attacks, racism or any other offensive 'isms'. we will remove these topics from the forum, we will not give you an area where you can abuse each other. We will not hesitate to ban offenders.

May have asked this before, but can't remember: how old do you have to be to get a FAC?

My parents aren't the shooting type so they don't have one, meaning I can't be added to theirs.

I heard somewhere you have to be 18 to apply for a FAC, is this right?

EDIT: I would be looking to get a rifle, not a shotgun.

Sounds stupid but I don't like using the phone, I could go to a police station, I'd rather do it in person.

No idea, someone told me that police stations have leaflets and forms you can collect which give you information.

i dont think there is an age to having an FAC but i dount think you will be able to own a rifle.

the FAC will let you shoot a rifle but not own it (like with your air rifle)

this means you and Dad will need an FAC him to buy it and you to shoot it.

wait till you are 18 its easier also by the time you and dad get an FAC you will probably be 18 anyway

    Your right Andy, its 21.
Remember when you fill out your form 101 FAC application to have a decent amount of land to shoot over (with the owners written pemission) or else you will have to be nominated and seconded to join a shooting club with range facilities to cover the calibre of rifle you want.
Down side of the club membership FAC is that you can only use your rifle at the shooting club and not in the field, ie if you quit the club then you lose your FAC!.
Also bear in mind that before the FLO even considers your application, you must have an approved gun cabinet securely bolted to a wall out of sight as minimum security.
Ive 2 cabinets like that,a locking steel framed door, full alarm system and bars on the windows of my office/gun room for extra security.
Nowadays thats the type of security the police are looking for and approve of.
Hope this helps a wee bit.

    Ian;)

man, you people really have to want to get a firearm, don't you? I could get one right now without any kind of permits, all I have to get is a background check... I'd have to wait a few years to get a handgun, but I could get just about any long gun out there. Now I see why it's called the nanny state :(

I do not understand this FAC laws.

Here we are decent people wanting airguns for hunting and blinking but we need to have license to have a decent power.
On the other hand criminal use real guns to do al sorts of bad things and they do not need any license

I just wanted to point this out.

Your right about the nanny state here, everyone wants to seen as politically correct (too many lib dems!!).
The problem as I see it in the states though is that any pyscho can buy a gun then go out and kill a heap of kids at their high school etc,as has been proven time and time again.
i sleep better at night knowing the police do a damned fine job vetting applicants for firearms in the UK.

Not strictly true Leeman...they NEED a licence too...but as they are criminals they stick 2 fingers up at us and the Law. It's only like the people who drink and drive, the people who grow or deal in drugs.etc. The LAWS are the same for everybody...some just choose to ignore the ones they don't like, but if someone broke a law AGAINST them, they would be the first to call the Police. The sad thing is, the Police would probably respond faster for them than for you.....I seen it happen.

    Hi
The North wales police fac form has a box for parents or guardians to sign if the applicant is under 18, so you should be able to do it!
    regards
    Steve

A shot gun certificate is a lot easier to obtain than an fac.My view would be to hold a shot gun cert for a few years, then apply for an fac.It might be a tad easier to get it processed
