1. The Forum Rules have undergone some minor changes and updates.  Please take the time to read them; it will only take a couple of minutes of your time. By doing so, you lessen the chance of incurring the wrath of the moderation team or making yourself look foolish to other members.

90% of users posting adverts in the Sales forums need to be reminded to read the rules as their posts are wrong.  This is unnecessarily time-consuming and will no longer happen - if your advert doesn't follow the Sales Rules it will be deleted and you'll have to start all over again.

  3. Dear members,

Our membership (like our country) consists of people from all walks of life; different in far more ways than can be listed here and each with a different view based on their experience of life - regardless of their colour, religion or cultural heritage. Every single person in the UK has been born of mixed race – we are a multi-coloured and multi-cultural country.

As many of you are aware there are a handful of individuals amongst this membership that persist in making provocative, inflammatory, racist and otherwise offensive comments. This has been happening across the forum to a certain degree but is most especially prevalent in the Adult section.

The moderation team has tried to stay on top of this, however unfortunately because of the ‘offensive’ nature of much of its content we don’t monitor the Adult section quite as much as perhaps we should. As a result much of this behaviour has gone unnoticed unless it has been reported to us. While the team always intended to take a "light touch" approach to the Adult section it would seem that some people aren’t quite adult enough to be left unmonitored after all.

This behaviour is, and always has been against Forum Rules as well as the specific stipulations of the Adults forum and it will no longer be tolerated. We feel it's time to draw a line in the sand and as such from this point onward offenders will receive an immediate and permanent ban from the forum.

In order for us to achieve our goal of restoring the forum to the friendly and tolerant place it once was, we ask that ALL members be mindful of the content they post and help us to stop unacceptable behaviour by using the 'Report' tool at the bottom of any offending post - the results of which can be seen only by Admin/Moderators.

You should all receive a copy of this message by PM.

    Can you help forum please?

As without question you all have fired more springers than I!

My Dad in his 83rd year looking for an easy cocking break barrel in .177 for plinking in the back garden. I don't want to buy him any 'kack' either, is there a specific brand model that may fall into this requirement?

A bit of a wobbler this one, Browning Airstar. If it has to be a springer with no effort, this is the boy. Noisey as hell when cocking (battery powered) and only available secondhand. Not bad to shoot though. I picked one up recently for £200.

take the owd boy down to your local rfd, and get him to try a hatsan mod 55s. failing that, treat him to a used pcp - no cocking effort required. you'd be surprised at some of the used bargains about

As much as i love this gun breaking the barrel open is hard.
personaly i would get him to try a HW30 there 8ftlb in power and quality in build and ease of use and shooting, and they dont break the bank either the same price as other budget guns and the ew models come with the record trigger the best springer tigger there pretty much is.

Look for something with a ball bearing detent.

My Hatsan requires a right smack to get it un latched (even with a silencer) where as the ball detent on a rifle like my TH208 can be un latched with one finger

One of my shooting buddies has a Sandwell fieldsports tuned th208,as with most of Tonys tuned springers the cocking effort required is very much reduced from standard spec.Perhaps there is a fettler local to you who could offer such a service, then within reason your father could have his choice of rifle made to operate within his limitations.

Thanks all, some good suggestions, he 'pxed' all of his old crap for a new HW97 in .22, think I scared him with the cocking lever safety with one arm whilst loading the pellet with the other, understandable really. Never even held a HW98, are they a good compromise?

How far out in yards are you plinking/shooting to?
The HW98 is an awesome springer possibly the best break barrel on the market, for you it will be awesome but for your dad it sounds like the HW30 will be awesome.

Are you saying he has bought the 97 ? I had one in my mid 40's and with my arthritis is was far to much hard work for me and heavy to boot, I was well and truly knackered after a session with it.
I now have a 95/98 hybrid and it is much easier to use. I even used a friends non tuned .22 95 recently and that was fairly easy to cock.

    Hi,
I have an SMK Supergrade XS19-18 That is really easy to cock since it has had a welshwilly tune up kit fitted and has had the trigger upgraded too. It is just under the legal limit for power and is very, very accurate.
It comes with a Flambeau hard case, telscopic sights, silencer etc and is literally as new.
My wife cocks it even with her neck and shoulder disability.
    If interested PM me.

Does it have to be a springer? Why not a co2 no cocking required.
