1. The Forum Rules have undergone some minor changes and updates.  Please take the time to read them; it will only take a couple of minutes of your time. By doing so, you lessen the chance of incurring the wrath of the moderation team or making yourself look foolish to other members.

90% of users posting adverts in the Sales forums need to be reminded to read the rules as their posts are wrong.  This is unnecessarily time-consuming and will no longer happen - if your advert doesn't follow the Sales Rules it will be deleted and you'll have to start all over again.

  3. Dear members,

Our membership (like our country) consists of people from all walks of life; different in far more ways than can be listed here and each with a different view based on their experience of life - regardless of their colour, religion or cultural heritage. Every single person in the UK has been born of mixed race – we are a multi-coloured and multi-cultural country.

As many of you are aware there are a handful of individuals amongst this membership that persist in making provocative, inflammatory, racist and otherwise offensive comments. This has been happening across the forum to a certain degree but is most especially prevalent in the Adult section.

The moderation team has tried to stay on top of this, however unfortunately because of the ‘offensive’ nature of much of its content we don’t monitor the Adult section quite as much as perhaps we should. As a result much of this behaviour has gone unnoticed unless it has been reported to us. While the team always intended to take a "light touch" approach to the Adult section it would seem that some people aren’t quite adult enough to be left unmonitored after all.

This behaviour is, and always has been against Forum Rules as well as the specific stipulations of the Adults forum and it will no longer be tolerated. We feel it's time to draw a line in the sand and as such from this point onward offenders will receive an immediate and permanent ban from the forum.

In order for us to achieve our goal of restoring the forum to the friendly and tolerant place it once was, we ask that ALL members be mindful of the content they post and help us to stop unacceptable behaviour by using the 'Report' tool at the bottom of any offending post - the results of which can be seen only by Admin/Moderators.

You should all receive a copy of this message by PM.

  5. Postings on Politics, Religion & Controversial Off-Topic Material

The majority of users do not want to read about these subjects and people have left the forum as a result of it – this is after all an 'Airgun' Forum. It’s all very well to say they don’t have to read it if they don't want to, but as most of us use the ‘New Posts’ button there is no easy way to avoid it.

All AGF staff members are in favour of people being able to discuss what they want, but we have to draw the line somewhere if it is upsetting other users. We don’t want to read about these topics either.

IMPORTANT- The discussion of politics and religion is no longer allowed anywhere on the forum (including the Adult section).  The only exception is if it's airgun related - they must be put in the Airgun Related Politics section..

We will not tolerate bullying or personal attacks, racism or any other offensive 'isms'. we will remove these topics from the forum, we will not give you an area where you can abuse each other. We will not hesitate to ban offenders.

My brother is looking into the above scopes so I'm just putting this out there to see if anyone has any experiences with them?
Seems to be a few models to pic from and are priced well to say it'll be living on top of a Gamo Phox hes not keen on spending £300+
Any advice/recommendations would be ace thanks

I was after one during lockdown but couldn't get model i wanted so I opted for a PAO instead. Seen discovery scopes in use and the owners said they rate them.
Now I rated MY PAO when first had it until purchased a second hand Hawke sidewinder of another member but the PAO is not as good, so it depends what you are comparing it to.
A mate down gun range loves his Discovery, however he purchased it through UK distributor knowing that someone he knew purchased one direct from China and it fell to bits and had scratched lenses from day one. The cost of sending it back was a fortune so it ended up in the bin.
So maybe best to buy one from reputable outlet as at least you can return it for exchange if needed.

Heard plenty of good comments about discovery...but as @R10 Rich says...it depends what you compare them to.
I've been using a Falcon ffp scope and feel quite happy with it.. Ffp isn't everyone's cup of tea.. but I like even though it's only any good after 8x zoom under 8x the reticle is too fine..

@R10 Rich Yeah I get what you mean there. I guess its difficult without having a fiddle with one. I agree with buying from the UK importer too :thumb:
@Ramsay I use a Falcon s18 on my Rapid and love it to bits, been trying to talk him into the smaller m18 especially when a discovery from the UK is over £200
He likes the look of the HS 4-14x44ffp model but for an extra £55 he could have the M18

I would try a discovery next time as I have now seen one and looked through it seems well made, I paid £240 for my PAO and that came with everything sunshade,
Mounts etc. The second hand Hawke i purchased off a forum member for £250 is very good indeed a complete bargain.

@R10 Rich Yeah I have an early Sidewinder on my Scorpion and its a lovely bit of glass! I've seen the PAO's for sale but never had the chance to look through one unfortunately.

I have the VT3 3-12 ffp and can see it is a good scope for the money. Glass is clear and bright. I would put it up against (easily) with an Airmax.

Exactly my own thoughts on owning the same scope mate.
    Cracking clear glass well built.
Bought mine from Sureshot and I've also looked through a different one from the bay of evil and the glass was of a lower quality and in par with a budget cheapo scope.

As far as I know their are a lot of Discovery clones going about on Ebay. I suggest only buying from a realiable source.

I had a Hawke sidewinder tactical a while ago to try them out against my Disco’s. The Hawke went up for sale not even 60min after getting them.

The overal build quality and glass are much better than Hawke. The sidewinder felt like a cheap toy compared to my HD, HS and ED scopes..

I recommend avoiding the cheap Disco’s, but everything from mid range and higher are superb.

Good to know, I like the look of the VT-3 FFP the standard length and the compact. If I find a bullpup or wildcat will have one of those scopes on that

I have four Discovery scopes, two of which are FFP. :)
The FFP ones are simply superb. Can't fault them. They are excellent value for money.

I was just about to ask about this. For the first time today I had a look at Aliexpress, in particular at people selling Discovery scopes. Prices are lower, but there are claims like 'If you're scope is counterfeit we'll pay you x10 compo! Or, 'If you want/need to return you can do it cheap through our UK Depot.' Are these blag scopes with inferior glass, or genuine? There were lots of brands I'd never heard of, but some familiar ones like BSA, Vector Optics and S&B! You could tell at a glance that the Schmidt & Benders were fakes, especially at the prices, but, to me, others looked kosher. Is it a complete no, no to buy any scope at all from Aliexpress?

Ive had the pleasure of shooting through a few discovery scopes and as said very clear and reliable. cant remember the model but the first focal plane one with side parallax wheel was my favorite one.

Good point, If I am honest I am always a bit (well very) wary of anything that seems to good to be true. I prefer to shop around for the best deal I can get from reputable sources.
