1. The Forum Rules have undergone some minor changes and updates.  Please take the time to read them; it will only take a couple of minutes of your time. By doing so, you lessen the chance of incurring the wrath of the moderation team or making yourself look foolish to other members.

90% of users posting adverts in the Sales forums need to be reminded to read the rules as their posts are wrong.  This is unnecessarily time-consuming and will no longer happen - if your advert doesn't follow the Sales Rules it will be deleted and you'll have to start all over again.

  3. Dear members,

Our membership (like our country) consists of people from all walks of life; different in far more ways than can be listed here and each with a different view based on their experience of life - regardless of their colour, religion or cultural heritage. Every single person in the UK has been born of mixed race – we are a multi-coloured and multi-cultural country.

As many of you are aware there are a handful of individuals amongst this membership that persist in making provocative, inflammatory, racist and otherwise offensive comments. This has been happening across the forum to a certain degree but is most especially prevalent in the Adult section.

The moderation team has tried to stay on top of this, however unfortunately because of the ‘offensive’ nature of much of its content we don’t monitor the Adult section quite as much as perhaps we should. As a result much of this behaviour has gone unnoticed unless it has been reported to us. While the team always intended to take a "light touch" approach to the Adult section it would seem that some people aren’t quite adult enough to be left unmonitored after all.

This behaviour is, and always has been against Forum Rules as well as the specific stipulations of the Adults forum and it will no longer be tolerated. We feel it's time to draw a line in the sand and as such from this point onward offenders will receive an immediate and permanent ban from the forum.

In order for us to achieve our goal of restoring the forum to the friendly and tolerant place it once was, we ask that ALL members be mindful of the content they post and help us to stop unacceptable behaviour by using the 'Report' tool at the bottom of any offending post - the results of which can be seen only by Admin/Moderators.

Firstly- cloverleaf if your reading this i have 2 apologies to make-
    1. Sorry for making a relatively un-detailed thread
    2. Sorry you have to read all of this knowing i am using .22's

Today i decided to pellet test one rifle and also the main reason i did this was to explore this "clean your barrel to increase accuracy thing" and "defiant pellets need a clean barrel and then leaded up with there own pellets" (which i was/am sceptical about)

each part was done on a single air fill each.

    so here's my testing today step by step;

RANGE TO MY BACKSTOP 28 YARDS

    VIEW FROM MY SHOOTING POSITION
[IMG]KIT USED- PARKER HALE PHEONIX WITH LIGHTSTREAM SCOPE SET AT 14X MAGNIFICATION
    [IMG]

THESE ARE THE DEFIANT PELLETS I TESTED IN THE FIRST PART
(THE ORDER YOU SEE THEM IS THE CORRESPONDING TARGET POSITION THROUGHOUT)
[IMG]I THEN PROCEEDED TO SHOOT A 5 SHOT GROUP WITH EACH PELLET WITH THE BARREL IN A "WELL LEADED" "DIRTY" STATE
[IMG]I THEN CLEANED THE BARREL WITH ONE OF MATTYTS'S PULL THROUGHS AND THE KIT INCLUDED BELOW, AND FINISHED ONCE THE PATCHES WERE CLEAN AND THE BARREL WAS DRY
[IMG]NOW THE BARREL WAS CLEAN I DID ANOTHER SET OF GROUPS STRAIGHT AWAY
[IMG]FOLLOWING THE 2ND SET OF GROUPS, I THEN SHOT 40 DEFIANT PELLETS THROUGH THE RIFLE TO GIVE A TOTAL LEADING UP OF 55 SHOTS

AND AGAIN I SHOT 3 GROUPS OF 5 SHOTS EACH, HERE IS WHEN I EXPECTED TO SEE A GROUPING DIFFERENCE
    [IMG]
FIRST GROUPS ON TOP- LAST ON BOTTOM[IMG]

From this i noticed a small change in accuracy from clean to leaded state. And a big loss of accuracy from dirty to clean with the heavier 16gr OGIVE pellets (left targets).
One thing i noticed is that the OGIVE pellets had a matte finish and the 14gr defiants had a shiny rws type finish. This may be a time since production thing or a different make up.

either way neither was particularly accurate. but the OGIVES have potential when the barrel is dirty as the first group was considerably better and had one flyer (this was the first shot after filling the rifle though)

    following this i tested other pellets and the results are as follows;

    EDGE TO EDGE GROUP DIAMETER

    air arms field - 59mm!!!
    rws superfield - 37mm + flyer
    rws superdome - 35mm
    webley accupell - 29.7mm
    jsb jumbo express - 24.6mm + flyer

at this stage your probably thinking i need to test my eyes, not pellets

    defiant ogive - 19.8mm + flyer
    defiant 5.52 - 11.6mm
    h&n ftt 5.53 - 7.4mm (very nice group)

interesting how defiants actually ended up doing better than a lot of other well known brands. granted they weren't very good groups to compete with.

i'll stick with h&n's in this i think

i also did a quick aa field vs defiant large in my fx2000 too with a "dirty" barrel.

    FX2000 WITH A NIKON MONARCH
    [IMG]

    PAIR OF 8 SHOT GROUPS
[IMG]Again the groups were not impressive at all- usually with air arms, i get about 10mm+/- groups. but i have decided to use defiant large in my fx now due to the regularity/tightness of the group.

my conclusion is that cleaning it makes no difference, or such little difference that is it really worth the hassle, time and pellets.

what is your thoughts and findings?

I've just got a walther lgu and once I have a tin of pellets through it I'm going to do some pellet testing I think. The rws superfields I got with it have been very good. I'm wondering if they are any better than the superdomes as I can get those a little cheaper. Goodbye Wednesday afternoon haha

in my opinion rws pellets either work very good or very bad (in general) in .177 rws superdomes have worked very well in my last few rifles.

All Defiants are made from Same Mix Lead wire -

Very small amount of Antomy to slightly harden pellets - Otherwise Dies would Crush pure Lead in manufacture

Also above three pellets have Different Head Sizes - Which is a true Head Size on Single Dies

Ogives are 16.00 Grains and Defiants are 14.00 Grains

Nice write up Tom, defiants are well made pellets.

11.6mm is still a very acceptable group! did you try the defiants in a different head size:)

    Hi,

    Cheers.
Yes the 14gr defiants were in medium in the middle and large on the right.

Large worked best in both pcps used.

Whilst 11.6mm is a nice group, 7.4mm is excellent :)
    Cheers
