1. The Forum Rules have undergone some minor changes and updates.  Please take the time to read them; it will only take a couple of minutes of your time. By doing so, you lessen the chance of incurring the wrath of the moderation team or making yourself look foolish to other members.

90% of users posting adverts in the Sales forums need to be reminded to read the rules as their posts are wrong.  This is unnecessarily time-consuming and will no longer happen - if your advert doesn't follow the Sales Rules it will be deleted and you'll have to start all over again.

  3. Dear members,

Our membership (like our country) consists of people from all walks of life; different in far more ways than can be listed here and each with a different view based on their experience of life - regardless of their colour, religion or cultural heritage. Every single person in the UK has been born of mixed race – we are a multi-coloured and multi-cultural country.

As many of you are aware there are a handful of individuals amongst this membership that persist in making provocative, inflammatory, racist and otherwise offensive comments. This has been happening across the forum to a certain degree but is most especially prevalent in the Adult section.

The moderation team has tried to stay on top of this, however unfortunately because of the ‘offensive’ nature of much of its content we don’t monitor the Adult section quite as much as perhaps we should. As a result much of this behaviour has gone unnoticed unless it has been reported to us. While the team always intended to take a "light touch" approach to the Adult section it would seem that some people aren’t quite adult enough to be left unmonitored after all.

This behaviour is, and always has been against Forum Rules as well as the specific stipulations of the Adults forum and it will no longer be tolerated. We feel it's time to draw a line in the sand and as such from this point onward offenders will receive an immediate and permanent ban from the forum.

In order for us to achieve our goal of restoring the forum to the friendly and tolerant place it once was, we ask that ALL members be mindful of the content they post and help us to stop unacceptable behaviour by using the 'Report' tool at the bottom of any offending post - the results of which can be seen only by Admin/Moderators.

You should all receive a copy of this message by PM.

  5. Postings on Politics, Religion & Controversial Off-Topic Material

The majority of users do not want to read about these subjects and people have left the forum as a result of it – this is after all an 'Airgun' Forum. It’s all very well to say they don’t have to read it if they don't want to, but as most of us use the ‘New Posts’ button there is no easy way to avoid it.

All AGF staff members are in favour of people being able to discuss what they want, but we have to draw the line somewhere if it is upsetting other users. We don’t want to read about these topics either.

IMPORTANT- The discussion of politics and religion is no longer allowed anywhere on the forum (including the Adult section).  The only exception is if it's airgun related - they must be put in the Airgun Related Politics section..

We will not tolerate bullying or personal attacks, racism or any other offensive 'isms'. we will remove these topics from the forum, we will not give you an area where you can abuse each other. We will not hesitate to ban offenders.

    Over to you guys .....

    Who has them?
    Where did you buy it?
    How much did you pay?
What features did you want i.e. G sensor, GPS etc?
I am looking at buying one, nearly all Russians have to have them or have to have one for insurance purposes. They are becoming more popular over here due to scammers and fraud claims etc.

There are so many to choose from but no idea what quality you get for your money. Looking to spend upto £100 each on two ... one for me the other for my boss.

I use the ISYMDVR app on the iPhone, it is really good and records all telemetry data, the only problems are

1/Limited data storage space - it works on the 8GB okay but ideally 16GB.

2/The phone has a tendency to overheat in the summer and cut out when using the app - it's best to dim the screen right down when using it - easily done with a finger swipe on the screen from within the app.

The few pounds it cost to install it paid off hundreds of times over recently when an articulated lorry drove into me and proved beyond doubt who was to blame.

i've got a nextbase 202 in front of mine from halfords and the picture quality in daylight is bang on but it needs lots of illumination at night though it's a good bit of kit but i've also got one mounted on the parcel shelf facing the rear that i got off ebay a year or two back for about £15.99 free postage from china which to be honest is just as good as the more expensive nextbase aexcept for the audio but i guess with alot of things from china you take the chance of it being a bag of bonk or something that actually works  luckily i dropped in lucky and got one that works :D and both can accept sd cards to 32gb

I've bought all of the iPhone Apple Store black-box recorder type apps and settled on the ISYMDVR, it just has everything I need, the night vision clarity is also excellent but I think that's primarily down to the quality of the iPhone camera. You have full control over the video editing and can remove audio (or not record it in the first place) - a video full of expletives wouldn't go down well with insurers :D

A nice function it has is to send an SMS or emergency call in the event of an accident event with the GPS data, It has a G-Shock function but I have it set on a very low sensitivity to prevent it sending texts every day lol

    Hi

If you look at Auto Express on the web and search they reviewed and rated highly (over a number of criteria) a Transcend model ?? for around 79£.........worth a look-see.

I have a G1WC which is the capacitor based version of the G1W. Capacitors are generally much more reliable than batteries which tend to be the bit that goes first. If the battery goes totally then it may not save the last video in a crash which is of course the important one. Beware of fake G1Ws which record in avi. Proper ones record in mov which is a much smaller file.

I looked into this a lot just several months ago before I bought one. Apart from the G1W the only other one to consider until over £100 is the A118 also known as B40. This one is a doddle to mount which the G1W is not. I used a cheap dash phone clamp glued to the back of my mirror as a mount.

Phone apps are fine right up to the point where you fail to pull the phone from your pocket and mount it on the dash. Do you really want to do that every trip with the resultant battery drain or constant plugging in to charge. It can make a small journey a PITA and also there's the issue of mounting. The best place for a good view is behind the mirror. I suspect most people using phones have them mounted low compromising their view. The main issue though is FOV. It's very narrow on most phones compared to a dash cam so you miss a lot of what is going on around your bonnet. FOV of A188 = 170deg. FOV Iphone5 = 56deg!

I tried the phone system out, luckily I have a phone mount, the phone is always on charge in the car and always sits in its cradle. It's just a pain when I have to make calls etc.

So I think I will end up buying a stand alone unit.

I made a removable hybrid suction bracket from a few iphone and other brackets, this is a good idea otherwise you might find that you need to replace your windows occasionally. It's nice to be able to mount the camera for shooting too, I filmed some rabbits that I was targeting a few days ago - good footage.

Thanks Steve, did think of looking to mount with suction cups, was thinking of mounting on the rear of the rear view mirror. It's only going in the company car and paid for by them too.

Beware of GPS logging! There is almost never any dispute over where an incident occurred, how yes but where no, and the actual footage will locate the incident anyway. What the GPS logging will do is proove you were going 4 mph over the speed limit. This may have been zero contributing factor in any accident but do you want to be arguing that in a court? Your own evidence may very well be used against you. I would disable the GPS function. This is the general view on dashcamtalk.com.

As to a mount I glued one of these to the back of my mirror.

With the amount of idiots on the road now days and the recent close calls ive had with them ive been seriouslu tempted to buy one.

If anything happens you cant argue with hard video evidence! A work colleague was involved in a "crash for cash" accident which also makes me more susceptible to getting one.

Ive heard theres a budget one for about £30 called the G1W that is meant to be one of the best budget dash cams out there and puts a few superior ones to shame.
