1. The Forum Rules have undergone some minor changes and updates.  Please take the time to read them; it will only take a couple of minutes of your time. By doing so, you lessen the chance of incurring the wrath of the moderation team or making yourself look foolish to other members.

90% of users posting adverts in the Sales forums need to be reminded to read the rules as their posts are wrong.  This is unnecessarily time-consuming and will no longer happen - if your advert doesn't follow the Sales Rules it will be deleted and you'll have to start all over again.

  3. Dear members,

Our membership (like our country) consists of people from all walks of life; different in far more ways than can be listed here and each with a different view based on their experience of life - regardless of their colour, religion or cultural heritage. Every single person in the UK has been born of mixed race – we are a multi-coloured and multi-cultural country.

As many of you are aware there are a handful of individuals amongst this membership that persist in making provocative, inflammatory, racist and otherwise offensive comments. This has been happening across the forum to a certain degree but is most especially prevalent in the Adult section.

The moderation team has tried to stay on top of this, however unfortunately because of the ‘offensive’ nature of much of its content we don’t monitor the Adult section quite as much as perhaps we should. As a result much of this behaviour has gone unnoticed unless it has been reported to us. While the team always intended to take a "light touch" approach to the Adult section it would seem that some people aren’t quite adult enough to be left unmonitored after all.

This behaviour is, and always has been against Forum Rules as well as the specific stipulations of the Adults forum and it will no longer be tolerated. We feel it's time to draw a line in the sand and as such from this point onward offenders will receive an immediate and permanent ban from the forum.

In order for us to achieve our goal of restoring the forum to the friendly and tolerant place it once was, we ask that ALL members be mindful of the content they post and help us to stop unacceptable behaviour by using the 'Report' tool at the bottom of any offending post - the results of which can be seen only by Admin/Moderators.

You should all receive a copy of this message by PM.

  5. Postings on Politics, Religion & Controversial Off-Topic Material

The majority of users do not want to read about these subjects and people have left the forum as a result of it – this is after all an 'Airgun' Forum. It’s all very well to say they don’t have to read it if they don't want to, but as most of us use the ‘New Posts’ button there is no easy way to avoid it.

All AGF staff members are in favour of people being able to discuss what they want, but we have to draw the line somewhere if it is upsetting other users. We don’t want to read about these topics either.

IMPORTANT- The discussion of politics and religion is no longer allowed anywhere on the forum (including the Adult section).  The only exception is if it's airgun related - they must be put in the Airgun Related Politics section..

We will not tolerate bullying or personal attacks, racism or any other offensive 'isms'. we will remove these topics from the forum, we will not give you an area where you can abuse each other. We will not hesitate to ban offenders.

I do DIY jobs for people on weekends all recommend by satisfied customers.
Small jobs to stud walls, roofs etc .

Last week I was asked to build a cupboard and do some painting in a bedroom.
I told them it would take 2 days to do the cupboard and 2 days to paint.

Whilst I was there I was asked to go to b&q with them to look at some tv brackets and other bits.
This took half a day with them.
I was also asked to take a carpet/wood rubbish they had to the tip on the same day. This took an 1 1/2

I only charge 50 pound a day or 60 to cover petrol if out of the area.

The cheeky f#@%ers have just said there not happy as the job has gone into five days . And they are not going to pay me ! Anything !

I offered to do the fifth day for free to finish off the painting as I did not want to have a bad mark against my reputation . So 240 quid due, plus 15 pound I'd spent on new hinges and catches for them.

They said no ! And offered me 180 pound ! Only 3 days wages, The cheek of some people. To stop me going back they packed all my tools up and dropped them off at work for me.

I know the work done was spot on,did need touching up in areas and that's why I offered to go back.the job was not finished.

I'm so tempted to go round take a hammer to the cupboard and paint the room black

I'm still waiting for the money to be posted through my letterbox as I told them I was not willing to travel to their house again for nothing .

Just remembered I was also accused of pinching a tape measure of there's by the live in mother in law ! This was after they'd removed my gear.
Tape measure was found 2 days later in their house ! !
No apology was given , I only found out through the person who had recommend me to them.
They are so embarrassed by it all.

Ten to Twenty years ago I would of thought nothing of going round demanding the money owed, then smashed every bloody window in the house and possibly shagged the cat :D

But I'm now 45 and do this to keep my hand in , the extra cash is nice. But I don't need the ****. First time in twenty years I've ever had anything like this happen.

Rant over feel better now doctor , now its of my chest.

What would you're next move be ?

Ps I wouldn't of really shagged their cat  :D:D:D

Your basically screwed mate, I'm a self employed plumber and if a customer doesn't want to pay you then your goosed. All you can do I'd take them to small claims court and to be honest it wouldn't be worth the cost or hassle just take it as a knock on the chin. The worst thing you could do is either assault then, or damage property, as you would end up on the wrong side of the law then.

I had one a few years ago I started a bathroom suite then had to wait for the tiling to be done before I could go back to finish off. The day I arranged to go back I ended up at the dental hospital at 7am in the morning for a tooth extraction that had been crippling me all night. I rang the customer to explain to situation and even offered to work the bank holiday Monday to make up for the inconvience, instead I got a snotty phone call of the husband demanding money of the job I refused and he told me not to bother coming back then. Luckily I had been paid for the work I had done, but that ******* contacted inland revenue and reported me for taking a cash payment without giving a reciept.

Walking around the local Tesco six months later I spotted him shopping, he saw me, went pale and made a quick exit out the shop. What an *******.

Ill bump into him one day......

Can't help but think Dominic perpetuate the problem. We are constantly bombarded by stories of dodgy work, shabby service and of course " cowboy builders".

Yes , certainly they exist but how about a programme about "cowboy clients". I see lots of builders in my job and some of the stories about how they have been shafted by clients is amazing. It takes so much time and effort to go to a small claims court it is not worth the hassle.

The staggering thing that strikes me about their stories is the fact that they are usually screwed by nice ,decent uprighting well off professional types.

    Makes you sick.

So its not just me then :( the clients are professional people aswell ! I have never asked for money up front before, but I will be doing so in the future or payment for the day on the day.

It just spoils it for others, the amount of jobs I never charge for, changing locks etc.

    No more

You just summed it up there, professional people.Usually have a monster mortgage, big bills for all the sat stations, internet etc, firms free car,and a runabout on hp for the wife, live well above their means and then try to lord it up over tradesmen by not paying them.If i was you i would take some business cards round their neighbours and just let it slip that the people next door can't afford to pay you and make a few comments on how tatty the house is,and they could use a cleaner never mind a joiner. In the space of a week the whole estate will know about them. Not as satisfying as a smack on the nose, but longer lasting satisfaction.

Take the money, give them a reciept and tell them that you'll see them in court for the rest.

Or take their cat out for a swanky dinner, get it p****d and send it home with smeared lipstick and a cheeky grin.

Touch wood, its never happened to me, but it is always in the back of your mind.
Its true about professionals, you always have to wait for the money.

Yet if you walk into an ex council house its "want a cup off tea and do you want paying now", before you've even got dust sheets down.
My Uncle once got stiffed for £6k by a Judge, try getting that one back in court.

Glad its sorted (well, nearly). I'd love to see a programme about people not paying tradesmen, They'd all be middle - upper management.
