1. The Forum Rules have undergone some minor changes and updates.  Please take the time to read them; it will only take a couple of minutes of your time. By doing so, you lessen the chance of incurring the wrath of the moderation team or making yourself look foolish to other members.

90% of users posting adverts in the Sales forums need to be reminded to read the rules as their posts are wrong.  This is unnecessarily time-consuming and will no longer happen - if your advert doesn't follow the Sales Rules it will be deleted and you'll have to start all over again.

  3. Dear members,

Our membership (like our country) consists of people from all walks of life; different in far more ways than can be listed here and each with a different view based on their experience of life - regardless of their colour, religion or cultural heritage. Every single person in the UK has been born of mixed race – we are a multi-coloured and multi-cultural country.

As many of you are aware there are a handful of individuals amongst this membership that persist in making provocative, inflammatory, racist and otherwise offensive comments. This has been happening across the forum to a certain degree but is most especially prevalent in the Adult section.

The moderation team has tried to stay on top of this, however unfortunately because of the ‘offensive’ nature of much of its content we don’t monitor the Adult section quite as much as perhaps we should. As a result much of this behaviour has gone unnoticed unless it has been reported to us. While the team always intended to take a "light touch" approach to the Adult section it would seem that some people aren’t quite adult enough to be left unmonitored after all.

This behaviour is, and always has been against Forum Rules as well as the specific stipulations of the Adults forum and it will no longer be tolerated. We feel it's time to draw a line in the sand and as such from this point onward offenders will receive an immediate and permanent ban from the forum.

In order for us to achieve our goal of restoring the forum to the friendly and tolerant place it once was, we ask that ALL members be mindful of the content they post and help us to stop unacceptable behaviour by using the 'Report' tool at the bottom of any offending post - the results of which can be seen only by Admin/Moderators.

You should all receive a copy of this message by PM.

Has anybody set this combo up on chairgun? Need scope height and velocity. Hard to get an accurate scope height with a measuring tape and without a chronograph I dunno what velocity I am getting.

Without a chrono, Chairgun won't help much, I'm afraid. Scope height is measured between the centre of the bore and the centre of the scope. You need to be able to input your average velocity in order for the software to predict your trajectories etc.

Calculate the OD of the AO end of the scope, barrel diameter and gap between the barrel and the scope.

Without a chrono,I wouldn't bother trying, unless your figures are perfect, the results will be way off.

That makes sense but still hard to get it perfect with a tape or even a ruler. Might have to dig out my verynear. I might be off to a range tomorrow, will they let me use one?

You need to get it chronoed but as a rough estimate (only for the purposes of playing around with chairgun and not as an alternative to chronoing and ensuring you are legal!!) HW100 tend to do around 11.3 to 11.6 ftlb out of the box with and aa diablo 1.77

You can usually get a good measurement by measuring between the centre of the bore and half-way up the gap between the two halves of the mounts (provided that the top halves are on fairly level). As for use of a chrono, most clubs will have one somewhere that I'm sure they'd let you use. I'd offer mine but it's a bit far from here to Watford - see if there are any forum members local to you who might help you.

I might bite the bullet and buy one. Any recommendations? I see the alpha crony gets a good mention.

Measure your AO,barrel diameter and the gap between scope lense and barrel.

Add half of the AO diameter, half of the barrel diameter and the full gap between the barrel and lense,I don't know any other method that will get the figure as accurate as this.

I use a Prochrono Digital (with a PC interface cable from Ganotongunner) and it's excellent.

Is there no chronograph that talks to an iPhone?

I don't think I'd trust anything that talks to an iPhone ;)
I believe that one of the members on here has developed an Android app for a chrono but I can't remember any more than that. Some will talk to a laptop (with the right cable and software). I use a chrony with a usb cable which will transfer all the shot data to my laptop and I later import it into a spreadsheet for analysis. The 'shoot through' type of chrono will be a bit more flexible if you want to shoot pistols or bows as well as rifles but they do cost a bit more.

'Shoot through'? Is that the ones with the 4 rods that look like 2 old black and white tv aerials?
Trying to convince my bro to bring one over next month from Canada. A Beta Chrony.

    Yes, like this one http://www.merlinarchery.co.uk/chrony-chronograph-f-1.html
Obviously you have to shoot through them all to get a reading! The Chrony is attached to the end of the barrel and will only measure the muzzle velocity. Those like the f1 can be set up at any distance and you can use any gun or bow, just as long as you can shoot it inside the frame. You will find that there are various different makes and models, some are quite simple and others do have a lot of extra features. There are members here who use most of them and can offer an informed opinion and there are some hacks to enable the extra features on some of the cheaper versions.

Good stuff. Got my brother to grab a chrony beta from Canada. While he's at it I got him to get a bushnells range finder too. £200 the lot. I love Canada.

Maybe next time he comes over. Looks a bit dodgy bringing over more than one of the same thing. Will get pulled at customs here.
