1. The Forum Rules have undergone some minor changes and updates.  Please take the time to read them; it will only take a couple of minutes of your time. By doing so, you lessen the chance of incurring the wrath of the moderation team or making yourself look foolish to other members.

90% of users posting adverts in the Sales forums need to be reminded to read the rules as their posts are wrong.  This is unnecessarily time-consuming and will no longer happen - if your advert doesn't follow the Sales Rules it will be deleted and you'll have to start all over again.

  3. Dear members,

Our membership (like our country) consists of people from all walks of life; different in far more ways than can be listed here and each with a different view based on their experience of life - regardless of their colour, religion or cultural heritage. Every single person in the UK has been born of mixed race – we are a multi-coloured and multi-cultural country.

As many of you are aware there are a handful of individuals amongst this membership that persist in making provocative, inflammatory, racist and otherwise offensive comments. This has been happening across the forum to a certain degree but is most especially prevalent in the Adult section.

The moderation team has tried to stay on top of this, however unfortunately because of the ‘offensive’ nature of much of its content we don’t monitor the Adult section quite as much as perhaps we should. As a result much of this behaviour has gone unnoticed unless it has been reported to us. While the team always intended to take a "light touch" approach to the Adult section it would seem that some people aren’t quite adult enough to be left unmonitored after all.

This behaviour is, and always has been against Forum Rules as well as the specific stipulations of the Adults forum and it will no longer be tolerated. We feel it's time to draw a line in the sand and as such from this point onward offenders will receive an immediate and permanent ban from the forum.

In order for us to achieve our goal of restoring the forum to the friendly and tolerant place it once was, we ask that ALL members be mindful of the content they post and help us to stop unacceptable behaviour by using the 'Report' tool at the bottom of any offending post - the results of which can be seen only by Admin/Moderators.

You should all receive a copy of this message by PM.

  5. Postings on Politics, Religion & Controversial Off-Topic Material

The majority of users do not want to read about these subjects and people have left the forum as a result of it – this is after all an 'Airgun' Forum. It’s all very well to say they don’t have to read it if they don't want to, but as most of us use the ‘New Posts’ button there is no easy way to avoid it.

All AGF staff members are in favour of people being able to discuss what they want, but we have to draw the line somewhere if it is upsetting other users. We don’t want to read about these topics either.

IMPORTANT- The discussion of politics and religion is no longer allowed anywhere on the forum (including the Adult section).  The only exception is if it's airgun related - they must be put in the Airgun Related Politics section..

We will not tolerate bullying or personal attacks, racism or any other offensive 'isms'. we will remove these topics from the forum, we will not give you an area where you can abuse each other. We will not hesitate to ban offenders.

Just thought I would throw this one out there to see if anyone thinks i have had my pants taken down

I have just had my 2002 ford KA (fishing and shooting wheels) in for its MOT and service at my local independent garage at Cattawade, Brantham.

The bill came to a few pennies under £800 which is about 3 times what the car is worth.

For that princely sum I got a full service with oil treatment, 12 months MOT (it failed at first). Two new wishbones and and complete exhaust system.

I figured that if I scrapped it, i would still have to find a run around so I bit the bullet and paid the bill.

I get an uneasy feeling that I paid more than it would have cost at the main ford dealership.

What do the wise owls on here think?

I hope they did a full lube when they bent you over. I would expect the full service and MOT to be between £200 and £250, an exhaust system fitted isn't going to cost a lot but a call to Kwik Fit would confirm that which leaves about £450 for the wishbones.
I would call to confirm the exhaust system price, you could probably get a price for fitting wishbones from Grose in Ipswich and then go back, if justified, to the garage and ask them to explain.

The £800 was for a full service, MOT and the 2 wishbones and exhaust.

Here are two photos of the Bill. [IMG][IMG]

The garage is also signed up to 'the GoodGarageScheme.com and I have yet to return the after sales questionaire.

I don't want to cause a fuss but I do not take kindly to my local business taking the Mickey.

Sorry to concur, but I too think you've been had. I've just had an MOT on my Landcruiser and had to pay a whole day's labour for the rear axle to come out and some remedial welding to be done. Cost me £360. I think your £800 sounds like daylight robbery for what they've done.

The parts prices look ok, but could be cheaper, but you've been fleeced on the labour cost!! Should take no longer than an hour to replace the 2 exhaust sections mentioned, and an hour+1/2 to do the wishbones. There should be no labour cost for the tracking, i don't know anywhere that charges this on top of the tracking cost. But £195 is a bit excessive for a service from an independent.

Effectively you've been fleeced for the labour. If you are looking at 4 hours work for that price, you are talking main dealer labour rates.

I'm afraid you've had your pants pulled down :(

If you want to use this as a yard stick, I have Ka, ok a lot newer than your's, but I've just had a full 3 year service and mot done at the ford main dealer's and it cost me £235, so now you can work out what the extra work has cost you, atb Steve.

Think you've had your pants pulled down, taken off and pulled over your head. My son has a Ka and it almost exactly needed the same work as yours. MOT, 2 front wishbones, a top mount, and engine service including fluids and parts. Total came to £460 from a local independent garage. How much can a Ka exhaust be?

Thanks Brittleview. I have been down there this afternoon and have asked them to look at the bill. They have asked me to go back down at midday tomorrow (wed)when the lady who does the paperwork will be present to go through the bill with me. Should be interesting.

Hope there is no lube and latex gloves on the counter.

As the other guys have said, that's a dick turpin moment.

I always ask for the parts that came off even with my company car at main dealers. Can't stand being fleeced. I now go to an independent Jag garage and he is band on the money. I'm all for supporting local business however, when things like this happen it pushes them away...short term gain tactics.

Charging extra for tracking.... It has to be done as part of changing the wishbones so should be in the price

Ninety quid each for wishbones? Were they made from solid gold?!!!

Everything on that bill is too expensive; parts, labour - the lot. That's worth a call to Rogue Traders or something similar, I reckon.

Did they tell you the price before doing the work?......if not refuse to pay if you still have car.....if you dont have the car and they do ask them to return the car to the original condition.....if you agreed with them the price beforehand then pay it and stop whinging its your own fault

ooh thats a bit harsh. Yes it is my own fault. The bill is all paid and done with oh and I can afford it. Not fishing for sympathy or compassion pal. I just want to be sure about their prices before I leave them feedback. I reserve the right to whinge and moan all I want.
I need the car and to be fair to the garage, they did phone me with the cost of the wishbones and exhaust before proceeding. Not knowing any car part prices and trusting my local independent dealer I said yes. It was only after I got home and mentioned it to some of my family that little alarm bells started to ring.

Thanks again for your understanding guys. Well nearly all of you
