1. The Forum Rules have undergone some minor changes and updates.  Please take the time to read them; it will only take a couple of minutes of your time. By doing so, you lessen the chance of incurring the wrath of the moderation team or making yourself look foolish to other members.

90% of users posting adverts in the Sales forums need to be reminded to read the rules as their posts are wrong.  This is unnecessarily time-consuming and will no longer happen - if your advert doesn't follow the Sales Rules it will be deleted and you'll have to start all over again.

  3. Dear members,

Our membership (like our country) consists of people from all walks of life; different in far more ways than can be listed here and each with a different view based on their experience of life - regardless of their colour, religion or cultural heritage. Every single person in the UK has been born of mixed race – we are a multi-coloured and multi-cultural country.

As many of you are aware there are a handful of individuals amongst this membership that persist in making provocative, inflammatory, racist and otherwise offensive comments. This has been happening across the forum to a certain degree but is most especially prevalent in the Adult section.

The moderation team has tried to stay on top of this, however unfortunately because of the ‘offensive’ nature of much of its content we don’t monitor the Adult section quite as much as perhaps we should. As a result much of this behaviour has gone unnoticed unless it has been reported to us. While the team always intended to take a "light touch" approach to the Adult section it would seem that some people aren’t quite adult enough to be left unmonitored after all.

This behaviour is, and always has been against Forum Rules as well as the specific stipulations of the Adults forum and it will no longer be tolerated. We feel it's time to draw a line in the sand and as such from this point onward offenders will receive an immediate and permanent ban from the forum.

In order for us to achieve our goal of restoring the forum to the friendly and tolerant place it once was, we ask that ALL members be mindful of the content they post and help us to stop unacceptable behaviour by using the 'Report' tool at the bottom of any offending post - the results of which can be seen only by Admin/Moderators.

So like many here I am lucky enough to have been granted permission to have guns (by both the missus and the police).

I need a nice new cabinet and am all confused on what to get. Cabinet or a more vault locking safe? With or without locking top?

I've pretty well decided it needs to be a 6 gun to leave a little room, oh and extra deep, beyond that there seem to be any number of options.

Does anyone have any recommendations, thoughts or "totally avoids"?

Just make sure you've plenty of room and don't always go off what the maker States , I've seen plenty of 6 gun cabinets that will only take 3 rifles unless you want to scratch everything every time you take a rifle out . HTH . Paul.

I have two brattonsound RL7 plus safes bolted together with a separate ammo safe bolted to one of them and the whole lot bolted to the wall.
and I've only just got enough room.
moral to the story is buy the biggest you can afford

Get one with a few extra rifle slots than you need ;)

Ask the manufactures how many the safe holds comfortably too.

Ive two cabinet made by a company call Box and the locking box is inside the cabinet. One is a 9 gun the other is 6, I hold 9 FAC rifles in them.
As above make sure you have enough room as FAC rifles soon take up room if the bolts are in and rim fires are slimmer than CF rifles. Plus go for extra deep to accomidate the scopes.

So Basicly how ever many guns you intend to store add at least 3 extra to it and don't by a shot gun cabinet they are never deep enough, specifically rifle cabinet.

All good comments. So I my ticket will have a rimfire and shotgun on it. I could well believe a second shottie and another rimfire at some point. I also hold one or two airrifles. So potentially 3-4 rifles and 2 shotguns - right now I can't see more than those in the next 3 years and to be fair I haven't really got space for a cabinet much bigger (perhaps an 8 slot).

Most 6 gun cabinets seem to be about capable of holding that lot - for example http://www.gdktrading.co.uk/gun-cabinets-vault-lock/Vault-locking-6-gun-cabinet-with-inner-ammo-safe.

Local gunshop is recommending a 6 gun cabinet rather than vault locker, any thoughts on that?

Our deepest cabinet is 20cms & that's really too small for scoped rifles, I'd say look for a minimum of 30cms.
We've just got Brattonsound, the last one was secondhand, £60 quid & 15 to get it shipped up from Inverness by the local van man, which was quite reasonable as it needed 2 people to shift it.
Secondhand may be a good way to go, when someone stops shooting they're not a lot of use for anything else.

I use a Brattonsound RL7 extra deep and it will take 6 scoped rifles comfortably plus the top locker is ideal for my ammo needs but as others have rightly said, buy bigger than you need if you can afford to.
